I purchased my vehicle around Labor Day of 2020. I still own and operate the vehicle. Since I have owned my vehicle, I have repeatedly been told my turbos are leaking oil, etc. I have even had several oil leaks repaired on my car. Fast forward six years, and I am buying 5 quarts of oil every two weeks and topping up the oil in my vehicle every week, at least 2-3 quarts per week. I also have smoke coming out of the tail pipes intermittently. The car also smells like it is burning oil, but there are no visible oil drips on the ground currently. I discovered by research there have been two lawsuits: Isley v. BMW of North America LLC, et al., Case No. [XXX] in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey ([XXX] [XXX]), and Bang v. BMW (Original [XXX]) ([XXX]). I have had repeated documented repairs and I never received a notice for these cases. I need my vehicle repaired and I need BMW to take ownership of this defect. I never received one notice regarding these lawsuits, or I would have had my vehicle repaired. I only have 102,000 miles (currently), so my vehicle should be covered in terms of mileage. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the water pump was constantly running and was draining the 12-Volt battery. The mechanic determined that the water pump needed to be replaced. Product: Diono Monterey 2XT Highback Booster Issue type: Child restraint usability / fit concern There is a significant height usability gap between Diono’s convertible seats and the Monterey 2XT booster. My child is approximately 32”–40” tall and cannot safely use either seat, leaving no appropriate Diono option during this growth range. This presents a real-world safety and usability issue for caregivers attempting to follow manufacturer guidance. I have attempted multiple direct contacts with Diono for clarification or exchange options, but no functional escalation contacts exist. This complaint is submitted to document the usability gap and request manufacturer review and some kind of help in rectifying this clearly safety issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Due to issues in the engine design the timing chains become loose and get excessive slack. BMW has revised the design multiple times but the corrective action requires complete removal of transmission and engine to replace all timing chain components. Unfortunately my engine has suffered timing chain failure and requires replacement. This leads to engine failure while driving and unsafe conditions.

Attempting to understand WHY this VIN is not included in the recall list especially in light of the fact the resulting catastrophic failure defined is exactly why the recall was supposed to prevent.

2014 BMW x5 xdrive35D equipped with a Bosch Cp4 (HPFP) High Pressure Fuel Pump that is known to implode., cause severe damage to my vehicles fuel system that is costing me thousands in repairs. My year make model and build year all fall under the recall but my vin is not on the recall list. BMW has no answers for me and just says nothing they can do. BOSCH CP4 HPFP failed and released metal shavings throughout all fuel lines, injec BMW had a recall for 12K vehicles but mine was not on the recall list and BMW cannot explain why given that my fuel pump exploded like so many other BOSCH CP4 . I believe BMW knew that these pumps were bad and did not notify all owners that had them in in their car.

The vehicle has been part of recall #[XXX] related to engine EGR cooler leakage. The EGR cooler is part of emission's control. On this vehicle the egr can leak which causes coolant to get into intake manifold and potentially cause risk of fire. BMW denied to cover the repair on my vehicle reason I am asking for support. Have already called BMW customer service 1800-831-1117 but unfortunately no support was offered. Car have been fixed by replacing the egr with genuine BMW part. Invoice attached. Driveshaft failed during normal driving conditions on normal road. Dealership said bearing in driveshaft u-joint seized, caused driveshaft to fail. This also lead to the transmission pan falling down. Parts are not available for inspection as repairs have already been made and old parts were not kept. Had to pull over mid drive on the side of the road, potential to be dangerous. Dealership diagnosed issue. Vehicle was only looked at by manufacturer/dealership. There were no warning lights or messages leading up to the incident. Only symptom was severe shaking of the car 20-30 seconds before I pulled over to investigate, and I saw the driveshaft hanging out the bottom of the car.

The diesel X5 randomly shut off and would not start leaving my wife stranded on the highway. This left my wife without power steering or power brakes. It was acting a little weird a day or so before the issue, but only displayed a generic powertrain warning without storing any ECM codes to assist with diagnosis. After the engine died, the engine stored a low fuel pressure code. The Bosch CP4 high pressure fuel pump failed just outside of the warranty period. Initial repair estimates are greater than $10,000 due to the way the high pressure fuel pump fails.

Then about 1500 miles later the same thing happen ,so I changed plugs& wires and still the same thing happen again so then I received a P0100 code and P0172 so I changed the pcv and both Mas sensors plus the turbo filters !!!!! still no change ?????

On 9/15 while driving for about 3 minutes, the powertrain warning came on my screen and the truck began to shake. I turned around and parked in my driveway and turned the vehicle off. At which time smoke was visible from the engine area. As the smoke began to worsen, flames shot out and I called the fire department for help. The owner owns a 2014 BMW x5 35d. Owner was driving 35 MPH at time of incident. Vehicle was working fine, no issues. All of a sudden, a drive train warning came up and the vehicle slowed down, stalled and shifted into neutral automatically. There was no warning or any indication prior to this, which is a bit scary. The owner was able to veer to into a parking lot. The vehicle failed to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was later towed to a BMW dealership for further testing. It was determined that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) had failed and that the entire fuel system needed to be replaced due to the intrusion of metal fragments into the fuel system. The vehicle is still with the dealer after over two weeks. Currently, the owner has been charged a diagnostics fee. Costs to repair this issue are near $20k USD. Dealership advised owner that the vehicle NOT be repaired due to a high possibility of the engine having damage from metal fragments/debris. So now what?

The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the universal joint at the end of the driveshaft had sheared off, causing the front of the driveshaft to detach. The driveshaft struck and damaged the transmission and caused some engine damage also. The contact later opened the hood and noticed that the engine components had melted. The independent mechanic referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors had failed. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel injectors and intake manifolds needed to be replaced. Front driveshaft broke at U-joint while driving Front driveshaft was showing signs of rust prior to the incident but unknown at the time that it was a more serious, known issue with the previous model. I believe this to be the exact same problem as the 2010-2013 BMW x5 E70 chassis (recall 17V-138). I saw the BMW service bulletin (unfortunately after the incident) which would have clearly shown me that my driveshaft was about to break. My vehicle is the next generation x5, 2014 4.4L with all wheel drive. It has the direct replacement driveshaft as the E70, but with the newer part number. I was driving, luckily at low speed, when the car started to vibrate (like a tire problem), then bang! clunk, clunk, clunk. The U-joint in my front driveshaft broke, smashed the transmission, exhaust and floor board causing the vehicle to be disabled. Transmission was cracked with a hole in the side of it. Cost to repair at BMW dealer exceeds $19K. BMW was unwilling to accept responsibility for the damages after working with their corporate team. They were not interested in reviewing the data as potentially part of the recall. I believe, based on what BMW knows about the previous recall and the pictures of my driveshaft a few months before it broke, this is a problem that BMW has not fixed on later models which will become more evident as they age. I suspect a possible culprit is the A/C drain line that is almost right over top of the driveshaft and likely lets cold water constantly land on the U-joint. (Design flaw) - that's my opinion. I will be happy to share any additional information to help prevent this from happening to other BMW owners. I would like to see this reviewed for consideration of an additional model range to be covered.

It went in to low power mode came top a stop with a "drivetrain malfunction" warning. Once the car locked in park it was inoperable. I am being quoted by BMW repair $48,000 for a new engine and a new fuel system. This is a well known issue over many years with BMW. There have been class action suits in Europe on this issue.

I like to report the incident with the sudden collapsing of the ECU car electronic on 01/23/2022 during night, which had raised my serious concerns regarding the car safety in general. During driving the car in the nighttime of Sunday 01/23/2022, my wife was on her way to return from Pompano, FL to her home in Plantation, FL, using the Turnpike, she experienced that ECU engine speed control had repeatedly sudden changes in engine revolutions, all indication lights at the dashboard went on and then all went off. At this moment of time, it was impossible for her, to control car speed via the accelerator pedal, since the engine speed suddenly changes from low idle to high idle, the operation of power steering and car brake system were affected as well. This unsafe situation of the car control functionality caused an unsafe situation for driving and having control over the car. It wasn’t possible for her to control engine/car speed, either the affected power steering hydraulic system and car brake system doesn’t supply the sufficient pressure to their system. In this particular moment the car was undrivable and uncontrolled, which were leading to a very dangerous situation for the driver, and it could end up in a live threating situation and accident for the driver. The service technician of BMW Holman Auto in Fort Lauderdale traced back the reason, that the ECU lost the throttle signal, due to a failure of the car battery. These is raising another question, why it doesn’t happen when starting the car, this is the moment when the highest current get drawn out from the battery, another question is, why these never happened before, when the car battery lost its capacity, because I’d to change the battery already twice since I’ve this car. Another question is regarding the ECU control logic functionality and their set up, why the engine speed needs to be accelerated, why the ECU can’t use the last actual throttle set point.

The rear side door lock mechanisms may not have been manufactured to correct tolerances and when the inside door handle is pulled, the previously engaged child safety lock can disengage.

Risk: A disengaged child safety lock would allow the rear seat occupant to pull the door handle twice and open the door while the vehicle is parked or in motion, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear side door locks and any affected door locks will be replaced, free of charge. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler as necessary. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. High pressure fuel pump failure

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE21-021 on October 14, 2021, to investigate incidents alleging a stall/loss of motive power as a result of high-pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (MY) 2019-2020 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engines. During the investigation, ODI sought to determine if the related defect allegation was limited in scope to the recalled population. After review of information request response materials from both FCA and BMW, NHTSA determined that sufficient information to identify a comprehensive recall population could not be produced by FCA and BMW.During the investigation FCA filed recalls 22V406, 22E048, 22V767, and 22E087 which include vehicles not identified in the initial subject population by ODI. ODI also received recall 21V586, involving loss of motive power due to failed CP4 fuel pumps on certain BMW manufactured vehicles. An information request letter response received from BMW indicated that failed pumps on their vehicles were caused by an interaction between pump internal components and US market diesel fuel, leading to increased slip and eventual particle-generating wear surface. Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
