am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety issue with my 2014 Jeep Compass. While driving, the vehicle feels as though the passenger-side front wheel is going to snap off at any moment. The sensation and noise appear to come from the wheel or axle area, and the instability is strong enough that the vehicle does not feel safe to operate. I have taken the vehicle to multiple mechanics for inspections and test drives. Despite these efforts, no one has been able to locate the source of the problem or identify any faulty components. Although the mechanics report finding nothing wrong, the issue remains and makes the vehicle extremely concerning to drive on public roads. Because the problem affects steering stability and overall safety, I believe this may be a potential defect. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration review this issue, determine whether other drivers have reported similar complaints, and consider whether an investigation or recall may be necessary. The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that initially, while driving approximately 65 MPH, the rear-end of the vehicle was swaying. Upon inspection, there was severe rust on the rear suspension of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed that there was severe rusting to the rear suspension, with fractures on the passenger's side of the vehicle, with a fractured, detached suspension on the driver's side. The mechanic replaced the rear sub-frame, stabilizer links, and control arm. Approximately one year later, after driving 130,000 additional miles, the daughter informed the contact that oil needed to be added more frequently. The contact was informed that while her daughter was driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated quickly; and while depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine revved abnormally and coasted before decelerating. The driver was able to make it to the nearest parking lot and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a Certified Mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with a rear catalytic converter failure; however, replacing the part failed to fix the vehicle. The mechanic advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter and Oxygen sensors had failed; however, the vehicle was not repaired. Subsequently, a different mechanic replaced the front catalytic converter and performed an oil change. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The 2014 Jeep Compass was in a parking lot and the driver side head restraint opened up as though there was an accident, but there was no accident and no warning system, message, or other symptoms. There is broken plastic inside the headrest, so it cannot be reassembled. It is a safety issue because the part cannot be put into the original configuration that was intended by Jeep, so the current safety of my neck while in this car is unknown. Police and insurance were not involved because there was no accident. Dealer claims that (a) Jeep will not pay for a replacement despite the existence of multiple TSB's, and (b) there is a federal law preventing replacement parts from being manufactured on hand, so they must be ordered for every occurrence of a complaint, meaning I have been waiting for months to get this replaced - while in an uncertain state of safety. I am concerned that I will approach a statute of limitations on my complaint and not be able to get it fixed at all.

The car broke down the very first day I got it! The alternator had to be changed I took it back to Auto connection where I got it from and they replaced it. Since then the car has been breaking down, I have had to pay for out of pocket for a new thermostat, another alternator, hoses, fuel pump, and I have only had the car a yr. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The headrest in the passenger seat deployed without a car accident. Just randomly when the car was parked. Jeep dealership wants to charge me 140 dollars to inspect this and the air bags. Supposedly both have recalls but they have “expired”. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It hit my husband in the head while he was sitting passenger. Hello, My VIN is [XXX] and I have a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude. I took my vehicle into the Jeep Dealership on Val Vista and Williamsfield Rd to have my airbag recall serviced. I picked up my vehicle and the airbag light was still on, I didn't think too much about it since it could have not been related to the airbag recall. However, I was later informed by pep boys and another mechanic that the airbag recall was not replaced. I was also informed on the phone by a dealership service man they did not have the part to replace the airbag and it did not get fixed even though they stated on the paperwork and when I picked it up that the airbag recall was serviced and the airbag was functioning properly, I have contacted the attorney general and the dealership regarding this issue and the dealership is claiming im incorrect and they serviced my air bag and asked me to bring the car in to reset the airbag light and see if there is something else going on with the airbag. The airbag recall part that was supposed to be replaced is the original manufactured airbag from 2013. I trusted the dealership on their word that the airbag was working and they let me drive around like that with my family while they cashed the 2500 check and did nothing with the airbag recall replacement. I am concerned about the actions of the dealership for my families safety as well as other families safety when they take their car to this dealership to get their recall's serviced. I would like to fix the problem with my airbag without having to take it to this specific dealership and would like to let others know so we can avoid any injuries or anything serious happening as a result of this dealership not actually fixing their safety recalls. Thermostat keeps going to hot or stops working and drops to cold. Replaced thermostat coolant sensor since that’s what the code popped up. Didn’t work it continues to out. Radiator cap is collecting engine oil and not coolant. Engine oil is getting into my radiator hose. I had just got my radiator and stuff replaced by the dealership. I only had it for 6 months and been putting a lot of money in it and I’m still having engine and thermostat and radiator problems. Also it keeps smoking when it already has coolant in it.

The vehicle just shuts off while in gear and in motion. Very dangerous. Lights come on (engine light, break light…) for a brief second before it randomly shuts off. The first time the situation occurred we were out of town. Warning lights appeared. The car had sluggish acceleration, noisy, rough ride, hesitating, jerking type movements . We thought it was going to stop. The message appeared "Do not drive the vehicle." My husband took the Jeep to the dealer and they were supposed to have fixed it. He was told it was the throttle. My car stalls while driving often. I’ve also experienced my car shutting off while driving a few times. It sometimes shows a red lightning bolt. I am very scared for my life and the lives of other drivers while I drive this vehicle because I never know if or when my car will stall in the middle of me driving at speeds above 50 miles per hour. The car will usually stall for about 10-15seconds and then power back on, but sometimes the car just shuts off and slows down so I have to pull over because it wont accelerate since the car just shut off. After pulling over, I wait bout 10 minutes and turn the car on and it’s fine. I took it to a mechanic multiple times and they can’t find the issue. They said they can only see what I’m talking about if the dash shows the check engine light but my check engine light is not on. This vehicle is not safe and I’m so afraid of the car shutting off mid driving. This started 2 years ago but the shut offs and stalls have been more frequent this year. My 2014 Jeep Compass is making vibrating noises, swerving moments and cracking sounds. Brought it to my mechanic, he found that the REAR SUBFRAME is rotted out. The FRONT SUBFRAME is also strating to pivot. Reading up on this issue it seems to be very common yet Chrysler has not made a recall for the safety of the passengers and driver and I was told by Chrysler that the extended warranty was only for models up until 2007 and that's it only for the original owner. I owned a 2014 Jeep Compass with 63,xxx miles on it. I bought the vehicle brand new. On (3) occasions so far, the engine stalled out immediately after filling the gas tank. It will restart and sputter for 10-15 seconds and then run just fine. On the latest incident, after leaving a gas station after filling up the gas tank, I went to pull out into heavy, busy traffic, the engine stalled out once again. Placing me in a very dangerous situation! Obviously! My research on Jeep forums and other car maintenance websites shows the problem is very likely caused by a bad/defective Rollover Valve. The rollover valve is located inside the gas tank. Apparently, the valve gets triggered off while refilling the gas tank when near full. Noted that the Check Engine Light did not common on. During my research on Jeep Forums and other related Jeep websites, I've noticed the engine stalling issue on many other Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriots.

1.Electrical: the touch screen, which is used for the radio & backup camera, is completely shot. One day in May, I was driving my car & the screen went from working to a fuzzy image & then to it going completely black. The radio stopped working as well. The lights around the screen (connected to the buttons) work but tend to flicker every now & then. This is a safety risk for myself & my family because I don’t have the extra support & awareness to backup with confidence or warnings. It hasn’t been looked at by anyone & there were no warnings prior to failure. It has been a consistent failure since then. 2. Engine: Jeep keeps overheating. Has been since April. It was inspected by a mechanic & also paid to have it “fixed” however the problem persists. It is a safety issue because my car could overheat & stop working & cause issues with other drivers. I also have a 5 yo & we have to drive around with the windows down & heat on no matter the weather. Sometimes we get home & her face is bright red. Sometimes the warning light comes on & the fluid is at the appropriate level. 3. Tire pressure in at least one of my tires is always low. I receive a warning light almost every time I drive. These are brand new tires. After I fill up the tire, it is only “fixed” approx 1 day before the light comes back on. It was checked by mechanic & he stated there were no issues he could find. This has been ongoing since December 2021. This is a safety issue because I could get a flat tire & crash into other vehicles or cause an accident. Jeep is available for inspection upon request for all issues.

While driving, car completely shuts off. All lights and signals will blink for a quick second, then shuts off. I was sitting in my car talking on the phone, parked in the parking lot and I felt the headrest hit the back of my head. I thought maybe somebody had hit me but nobody was behind me. The person I was on FaceTime with say and heard my head get hit and thought the same thing. Turns out it was the headrest that sprung forward and the small plastic clip that holds it together is broken. driving vehicle and a torrential down pour of water came out of the front interior light which is located at the windshield . The water fell onto the entire entire of the car onto me driving and almost caused an accident as I was shocked and surprised. I have a sunroof in this vehicle and in researching it find that prior lawsuits have been filed and won. Jeep is aware of this and does not inform the buyers instead ignores it. I researched and saw that the drainage tubes were too small and tend to clog up and Jeep does not inform the customer of this. When researching further this has happened over and over and no recall has ever been started. I could have died or severely injured other, Brought it to Jeeps attention and they stated we do not start recall that is up to the US government(arrogance of a supervisor) They refused to tell me who to report this to and told me to do the research myself If line is recorded it occurred11/03/2021 at app 3:10 . I paid. approximately 920.00 for the repairs where the Jeep shop left 7 inches of water on my carpeting and drivers seat. Corporate stated my problem and to deal with Jeep repair shop If prior lawsuits were won on this every one is aware of this why is a recall not done to help the consumer and Jeep made to notify their customers to have maintenance done on drain tubes. The activated headrest on the passenger side popped out randomly. The headrest is supposed to come out during a collision only. Researching this issue I have found that this is a common problem. This is obviously a safety problem as the spontaneous release could cause neck injuries, or in the case of an accident it may not work as intended. There was no warning of this in advance. The car is available for inspection, but I am now concerned for anyone riding in the passenger seat. I believe the same mechanism is on the drivers side also, so this may be an issue for that side also.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the warning message "Automatic Transmission overheating " appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle began to stall. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle for a short period. The contact stated as she restarted the vehicle, she was able to drive to her destination. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the automatic transmission system was overheating, and the thermostat needed to be replaced. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer who informed the contact that they could not provide further assistance and advised the contact to turn off the vehicle whenever the failure reoccurred so the vehicle could cool off. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

My car has a recall. I take my car to the dealership to fix the problem. But still the same problem from the same recall 2 or 3 times already. My car has been taking care in the dealership with not cost . But my big concern is why the same problem for the recall is coming back over and over. I also lost time when I take my car to the dealership even a full week. With no transportation and also always worry to go back again with the same issue . Is anyone can help me with this problem. While driving home from work one day I heard a loud sound like a gun. The headrest to the passenger seat just deployed on its own. Took it to my mechanic to be corrected and he said it couldn't be reset the clip or a pin must have broke. Then on Wednesday July 28th I got a warning light on my dashboard pertaining to airbags. Puts fear in me because I need to know that my airbags are there for me if needed. C&H AUTO CARE is aware of the problems with my vehicle. They are located in Joppa Maryland.

I was driving at a normal speed and out of no where my head rest popped out so hard. It hit the back of my head and I almost got into an accident. It scared the living daylight out of me. I thought someone hit me from behind or that I got into an accident. There was no warning for this at all. I am very scared to drive my vehicle now. My neck does hurt at the moment, but no serious injury.

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2013 Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200, and model year 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles equipped with 2.4L engines. Due to abrasive debris in the balance shaft bearings, these engines may have a loss of engine oil pressure, possibly resulting in an engine stall or engine failure.

Risk: If the engine stalls while driving it may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine balance shaft module, free of charge. The recall began on December 24, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N52.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Chrysler 200, 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber and 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot, Compass and Dodge Avenger vehicles. The Occupant Restraint Control (OCR) module may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.

Risk: If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the OCR, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners that parts are not available yet were mailed on October 26, 2016. The recall began on August 15, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S61.
