The contact stated that the vehicle required to be jumpstarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The vehicle failed to start, and the dealer informed the contact that the battery replacement was required prior to a diagnostic test. The contact declined to pay for a new battery. While driving my child to school a short while ago today, my car accelerated on its own and would not brake. I was attempting to stop for an upcoming red light. The car accelerated without me pressing the gas and the brakes went completely out. I was able to avoid a collision. This lasted for under 1 minute, then suddenly the car decelerated and I was then able to brake.

1. Engine oil cooler assembly started leaking, due to oil cooler housing plastic cracked from oil changes at dealership. Leaking engine oil almost destroying engine due to lack of engine oil lubrication leaking on to the ground from the rear of vehicle and on to the ground. Vehicle was taken to the dealership and verified that the component has failed and that Chrylser has known of this issue for sometime. 2. I have replaced the bad blend door actuators multiple times on each side of the dashboard, due to the unbearable clicking noise within the dashboard and not letting the ventilation systems change directions in the vehicle.

I have had the vehicle towed 6 times, the vehicle goes completely dead, with new battery, once the vehicle sits for a half a day there is no power to start the car. I have talked to several other people and have had similar problems. I had car towed to Chrysler dealer ship and they said they did not want to work on it? There should be a recall, I have had many Chrysler vehicles but never this type of problem with the electrical. If you park my car on Friday when I get off work, by Monday morning it is completely dead. I have had the vehicle to two local car repair and electrical shops to no avail. (both shop owners said this is a Chrysler manufacture problem) I can be reached at [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2012 FOR THIS POSSIBLE SITUATION BUT I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS THE SAME OR IF MY VEHICLE WAS EVER RECALLED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE VERY SPORADIC. WHILE STATIONARY AND DRIVING. SOMETIMES I WILL TURN THE CAR ON AND IT WILL BE THERE. SOMETIMES IT WON'T. IT HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. I LIVE WHERE IT SNOWS AND ONLY DRIVE THIS CAR IN THE WARM WEATHER MONTHS SO I HAVE YET TO LOOK INTO IT.

CAR BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER UNDER PRESSURE, ENGINE LIGHT WOULD FLASH. USUALLY WHEN COLD OR PULLING HARD ON A HILL OR PASSING. ENGINE RAN ROUGH, MISFIRING AND OUT OF BALANCE. COULD NOT CONTINUE TO PASS ON ONE OCCASSION; HAD TO PULL BACK, WRANGLE OUT OF TRAFFIC AND STOP VEHICLE. MISDIAGNOSED: REPLACED PLUGS, COIL & INJECTOR ON VALVE #5. DID NOT CORRECT. FINALLY DIAGNOSED AS BAD CAMSHAFT. VEHICLE HAS A HEMI. TECHNICIAN STATED HE HAS REPLACED MANY OF THESE ON VARIOUS ENGINES WITH A HEMI IN A FOUR YEAR RANGE. STATED IT IS A COMMON FAILURE ON THOSE VEHICLES BUT NOT LISTED ON A RECALL. THIS FAILURE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. HAVING EXPECTATIONS OF THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, AS IT NORMALLY WOULD, NEARLY CAUSED ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. ADDITIONALLY BOGGED DOWN TRAFFIC AS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT CONTINUE AT A SPEED OVER 45 MPH. TRAFFIC BECAME BOTTLENECKED BEHIND ME ON THE INTERSTATE UNTIL I COULD WRANGLE TO THE SHOULDER. I ALSO OWN A DODGE RAM TRUCK IN THE SAME YEAR RANGE AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY THE TECHNICIAN TO BE PREPARED FOR IT TO GO OUT ON THAT VEHICLE ALSO.

IT WENT FROM ONE CAR WASH TO MALFUNCTIONING ON AND OFF TO NOW THIS HAPPENS AT THE START OF THE VEHICLE AND WILL NOT STOP. AFTER FILLING TANK WITH FUEL, CAR SMELLS FROM FUEL. FUEL VAPOR COMES OUT AC VENTS, FILLS CABIN. VERY BAD AFTER SITTING PARKED. ODOR FADES AND STOPS WHEN FUEL LEVEL REACHES ABOUT 7/8 OF A TANK. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND MECHANIC SAYS HE FOUND FUEL ON TOP OF STARBOARD FUEL PUMP. FUEL PUMP MOUNTING BRACKET HAS HAIRLINE CRACKS IN IT. NEEDS COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THIS SAME PROBLEM AND ONE RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP SEAL ARE RECORDED IN FORUMS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AWAITING REPAIR PARTS. APPARENTLY CHRYSLER (NOT NHTSB?) IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THE LOCAL DEALER ORDERED 500 REPLACEMENT UNITS FOR INVENTORY. VEHICLE IS IN NY AND MECHANIC FOUND 1 (ONE) AVAILABLE FROM SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. I WOULD SAY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART.

Investigations
1 NHTSA investigation on record
Investigations are agency reviews, not findings that a vehicle is defective.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
