Truck did not stop when applying brakes. Message displayed brake system failure and the breaks were spongy. The truck was towed to the dealer and required the master cylinder, gasket, and reservoir to be replaced with 23,403 miles. This appears to be an ongoing issue with GMC Sierra trucks and needs further investigation as this potential could be catastrophic. Also, as this appears to be an ongoing issue, owners should not be responsible for the cost associated with any repairs and should require an immediate recall.

The upper part of the grill was rattling while I was on a 270 mile road trip. I stopped, inspected it, and found multiple mounting points cracked. I did not feel it was safe to continue driving with it being so loose so I installed four zip ties to continue my trip back home. Safety recall N242490120 had already been completed which means this is the second time the plastic clips on the grill have failed.

On July 3,2026 I was driving my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 on the highway at a speed of 70mph when the front chrome deflector flew off my vehicle. It tore paint off the hood, and also cracked my windshield. I searched online and noticed this had a safety recall for this issue. I see the recall was done in January 2026, AND has failed completely. I still have the service records of previous repair. GM is giving me issues on finding a remedy to fix this.

My gmc sierra had no warning lights, on the way to work on the highway it started making noises which increase every mile .Vehicle just turned 60.049miles . Engine completely seized up , low oil pressure light on , vehicle shuts off , luckily making to the shoulder and off the road. Gm towing wasn't any help in middle of the winter with 0° outside that morning , they told me that it's not covered under warranty and it would take 3 hrs for towing to get to me and out of my packet cost . Dealer diagnosed issue , found code P0016 (crankshaft position-intake camshaft position not plausible) also found excessive amounts of metal in the oil. Vehicle was repaired and second engine was installed .

On November 20, 2025, my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 equipped with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine began experiencing intermittent engine overheating conditions. Concerned about a potential safety issue, I contacted a GMC dealership and was advised that because no diagnostic trouble codes were present, there was nothing to diagnose or repair and that I should continue driving the vehicle. Over the following months, the overheating condition continued intermittently. On May 24, 2026, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly overheated, displayed fault code P1098, and entered reduced power ("limp mode"). The vehicle lost normal performance and acceleration while traveling in traffic. This created a significant safety hazard because the vehicle was unable to maintain normal highway speeds, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other traffic accident. The loss of power occurred while driving and without sufficient warning, leaving the vehicle unable to safely perform as expected in highway traffic. After researching this issue, I found numerous reports from other GMC and Chevrolet owners describing similar overheating, coolant control valve, thermal management system, and P1098-related failures. Many owners report symptoms involving engine overheating, reduced engine power, and limp mode operation while driving. I am concerned that this may indicate a broader defect involving the vehicle's cooling system and thermal management components. The vehicle exhibited overheating symptoms for approximately six months before the final failure occurred. Additionally, I understand that certain GM vehicles have been subject to service actions involving coolant control valves and thermal management system components. Given the similarity of symptoms, I am concerned that the overheating condition reported in November 2025 may be related to the same type of failure mechanism, yet my vehicle has not been included in any recall or special coverage program.

On 05/30/26, During normal operation of my vehicle (2022 GMC Sierra Elevation) at about 50MPH the Upper Grille Molding became detached while on the Highway. The safety of other cars or motorcycles was placed at risk because the part could have impaled or impacted myself through a windshield or someone driving behind me. The problem has been known to exist in other similar models and an existing recall does exist for those models (N242490120 Chrome Grille Deflector May Detach). On 06/01/26 the vehicle was taken to a Kelly Buick GMC, INC where it was assessed. According to the representative, even though I have not been the only one to report the problem with a different model than that specified on the recall number, they refused to cover the cost of repairs because my VIN does not fall into the recall specifications. Absolutely no other symptoms were noted prior to the part failure no rattling, whistling or any visible signs.

The transmission on the vehicle failed, it is currently sitting at a GMC dealership awaiting repair. However the valve body is on back order and there is no time table for repair to occur. My family and my safety was put at risk not knowing that the 10 speed transmission could result in rear tire lockup while on the highway, also the inability to put the truck in reverse to back away from any potential hazard. The problem was confirmed by GMC of Attleboro Mass. The vehicle was inspected by technicians at said dealership. There were no prior warnings, however the truck did feel hesitant to shift on the highway a week or two prior to failure.

The front grille deflector on my GMC Sierra flew off my truck on a windy day, hit my windshield hard but luckily did not crack it. A vehicle behind me did swerve out of the way to avoid the flying grille deflector but no accident luckily occurred. The piece is damaged but I was able to recover it. I had called the dealership I bought this vehicle at ( around June of 2025) they had confirmed this recall was “fixed” a few months prior to my purchase of the vehicle. Question from me would be, would my local certified GM dealership be able to provide this recall fix? I do not necessarily like the idea of taking back a potential highway safety hazard 2 hours away from my home on the interstate 70 mph back home once this is fixed / repaired with glue/ epoxy that may need 24-48 hours of drying time to cure. Also how can I trust the dealership who “fixed” this issue for it not to happen again?

Coasted to a stop on the side of the highway and shut truck off at which point it would not turn back on. Officer stopped to check as complaints about a truck partially on the side of the road. Had someone come to assist and try to diagnose. Had to tow truck off highway with trailer while officer followed behind with lights. Dropped truck off in empty lot unhooked trailer and left truck to be towed to dealer the next day. Dealership confirmed that day engine had failed under the L87 6.2L V8 motor recall. Gave approx estimate of two weeks to fix. Currently at day 38 with no fix completed yet. I own a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. The vehicle developed a clear engine knocking noise. I first brought the vehicle to the dealership while under 150,000 miles for inspection related to a recall. The dealership only performed a computer scan and oil change and stated no issue was found. No mechanical inspection was performed despite the noise. The issue continued and worsened. I returned to the dealership and the vehicle was kept for three days. During that time, the dealership again denied the existence of the noise and stated the vehicle was operating normally. When I picked up the vehicle, I immediately noticed the same noise and requested the technician to inspect it again. At that time, the technician acknowledged the noise and confirmed it was related to the recall. Despite this acknowledgment, General Motors declined to repair the engine and closed the case, offering only partial assistance toward purchasing a new vehicle instead of fixing the defect. The failure to properly diagnose the issue during the initial visit and the subsequent denial during the second inspection allowed a safety-related mechanical defect to worsen. This condition may result in engine failure or sudden loss of power while driving, creating a serious safety risk. The engine noise indicates a potential internal failure which could lead to sudden loss of power while driving, creating a safety risk. The initial failure to properly diagnose the issue may have allowed a safety-related defect to worsen beyond repair. I am reporting two separate stall/loss of propulsion events on my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Limited (VIN: [XXX] ), which is subject to NHTSA Recall #25V274000 and GM Special Coverage XXX (L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion). INCIDENT 1 — April 16, 2026: While decelerating off a highway exit ramp, the vehicle stalled without warning. The dashboard prompted me to shift to neutral and restart. I performed a rolling restart successfully and continued driving. This stall occurred while decelerating on a highway exit ramp with vehicles traveling at highway speeds behind me. The sudden and unexpected loss of propulsion created a significant rear-end collision risk. INCIDENT 2 — April 17, 2026 (next day): While traveling at approximately 40 MPH and climbing a hill under load, the vehicle stalled a second time. The dashboard again prompted a neutral restart. This time the vehicle would not restart. All I heard was a single click from the starter, followed by a complete dash reboot. The vehicle lost all power repeatedly upon restart attempts. I was stranded on a narrow, high-speed rural road in Standish, Maine during rush hour, with vehicles passing at speed. I was in serious danger. The vehicle was towed to Weirs GMC in Arundel, Maine (the selling dealer), where it currently remains for diagnosis under RO# XXX. Both stall concerns are documented as Warranty Pay. Additional concern: Since the day after purchase (March 28, 2026), I have noticed a pronounced cold-start tick originating from the bottom end of the engine, confirmed by an independent mechanic as coming from inside the engine. This vehicle passed a Recall #25V274000 inspection on December 28, 2025 at 98,233 miles. The tick and stall events began after that inspection. I am requesting this be formally documented as a safety complaint tied to Recall #25V274000 and Special Coverage XXX. I was exiting a main highway and when I let off the accelerator the engine died unexpectedly with no prior signs of failure and would not turn over to restart, luckily I was able to coast onto a side street out of the way of moderate traffic. I called GM roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to my local dealership. The service department confirmed that the engine was seized and needed replaced. My vehicle went through the L87 recall and passed inspection last fall at 29,400 miles, had another oil change at around 33,500 miles. The engine failed at 37,800 miles. I am the original owner and have always maintained the vehicle to GM standards. I feel that the recall is not solving this problem, because the engines are failing anyway. At this time my vehicle has been at the dealership service department for three and a half weeks, and is waiting on the replacement engine. The dealership has provided a loaner vehicle.

16 year old was driving down the interstate, Truck stopped accelerating out of no where and lost speed while in the middle lane. Steering wheel locked up, Car showed Oil pressure issue. Was told to shift to Neutral and restart. Barely made it to the shoulder. App showed only a battery issue and no other alerts. Thankful we did not get hit as cars were flying by on either side on the interstate. Could have been a serious accident. The dealership confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced. Truck had full 50,000 Mile service recently. Also, had passed the GM recall and were told the engine wasn't effected 9/20/25. No warning lights or issues prior. Completely out of the blue.

I was driving to work when my vehicle’s check engine light illuminated, accompanied by a warning message stating, “Low oil pressure—turn vehicle off.” I immediately followed this instruction and shut the vehicle off. When I attempted to restart it, the engine cranked repeatedly before finally starting, but the same warning message reappeared, prompting me to turn it off again. A few months prior, I had the vehicle inspected at the dealership, where I was informed that it passed the 6.2L engine national recall inspection. On April 9, 2026, the vehicle was towed to the dealership for further evaluation. On April 10, I was contacted and informed that technicians could hear a metallic noise coming from the engine. However, they stated that the readings from the PICO test were not high enough to meet the criteria for engine replacement. The dealership recommended replacing the camshaft position sensor but could not confirm whether this repair would resolve the issue. They also indicated that I would be responsible for all associated costs. Despite the presence of concerning symptoms, including abnormal engine noise and repeated warning messages, I was advised that General Motors would not approve an engine replacement unless the engine either completely seizes or fails both required diagnostic tests. At this time, my vehicle has only failed one of the two tests. As a result, I have been left without a reliable and safe vehicle, which is significantly impacting my ability to commute to work. This situation places me at risk of financial hardship and potential job loss. I am seeking a resolution that ensures my vehicle is properly diagnosed and repaired so that it is safe to operate.

We were driving down the interstate at speed and the Engine shut off unexpectedly. The truck flashed a notification on the dash asking to turn it back on. Pressing the on button would not turn the truck on. The tow truck company also couldn't get it to shift into neutral so he had to drag it up the tow truck After getting towed to a dealership they told us they had no one to look at it that day so we got a hotel room 5 hours from home and in the morning they said the engine is siezed and will need to be replaced.

This is separate for VIN 3GTUUDEL5NG657492 I had to change dealerships because Beck & Masten South / GMC would NOT provide me with a loaner after being told I was on the list and I was next in line. I waited a month and drove to them and spoke with the girl who oversaw loaners. I explained I had severe safety issues such as front-end wobble which is related to transmission issues. And the oil consumption issue and oil light. Once again, I was re-assured the loaner program was indeed still active and I would be put on priority. Again to no avail I had wasted too much time with Beck & Masten. After months of this I found out I did not have to take it to the dealer I bought it from. So, I took it to Monument Chevrolet. I explained my concerns related to the front-end wobble which was very intermittent. And the oil consumption issue which I was very concerned with due to the year model and mileage of the truck. Also, the 75,000.00 price tag was really has me extremely upset... Monument Chevrolet treated me well. I had actually brought it in and called about the steering which was greatly affected by the severe front end wobble more than one time. I was told at first the oil consumption was pretty normal. Until I told them how much I had to add between changes. I have attached two work orders to this complaint. These work orders show what was done at 18017 miles and 18323 miles. The later work order was when the PICO test was done. Also, an oil consumption test was started once I picked the truck up. After I had driven it for 2077 miles and was bringing the vehicle back to Monument Chevrolet, as instructed for the oil consumption results, when a loud squeeling, then hard knock, power loss and I pulled over. I called Monument and was instructed if I could get it to start and bring it. I drove it to them while knocking and rough running. It has been in the shop for over 2 months for an engine replacement. 2077 miles after recall work! REFER TO: COMPLAINT 11729716

Investigations
3 NHTSA investigations on record
Investigations are agency reviews, not findings that a vehicle is defective.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 36 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging engine failure in vehicles subject to Recall 25V274. In each VOQ, the engine had the recall remedy completed prior to the reported failure incident. Recall 25V-274 addresses vehicles equipped with a L87 6.2L V8 gas engine that experienced engine damage or failure. Recall 25V-274’s remedy includes an engine inspection. Based on the results of the inspection the vehicle will receive an oil change to a higher viscosity oil or an engine replacement. The complaints received allege failures of both remedies. ODI is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to assess the adequacy of the remedy for Recall 25V-274. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. To date, ODI has received 1,157 allegations of engine bearing failure. GM submitted 55,464 reports in total, with 29,752 unique VINs. ODI continues to receive allegations of L87 engine failures which fall outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. Based on GM’s recall, ODI will close this PE. NHTSA will continue to investigate complaints of engine failure outside the scope of recall 25V-274 as part ofEngineering Analysis (EA25007). To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
