The vacuum pump has been recalled on same year, make and model vehicle, yet my particular VIN is falling to the wayside. IT HAS A VACUUM PUMP issue, causing the brakes to malfunction at slower rates of speed. A "computer programming recall" was applied to my VIN however it is the ACTUAL Vacuum pump that is the problem. This should have been covered in all year, make and models. BRAKES ARE IMPORTANT! Reprogramming did not solve the vacuum pump issue that is causing the brakes to fail! This is absolute negligence on behalf of General Motors.

The contact replaced the hose and filled up the transmission reservoir. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a specialty transmission place and rebuilt the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that a few months later the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the specialty shop, and the transmission was replaced. The contact stated that a few months later, while driving at an undisclosed speed, an abnormal odor was emitting from the front end of the vehicle. The contact was able to pull to a rest area, and when the front hood was open, the contact noticed that one of the transmission lines had a leak and transmission oil was being sprayed all over. The contact was able to replace the transmission hose. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

6.2L Engine has well documneted problem with the valvetrane, I have had to fix it 2 times in 3 months. I have pictures and documents from servicing dealerships. Since my ownership, it has always been dealer-serviced. Unexpected catastrophic engine failure, which happened on a major interstate. GM service technicians know there is a valvetrane issue. This instance, the warning light came on under and overpass, and the truck coasted to a stop just past the end of the on-ramp. A GM (Chevrolet dealership currently has it) and a GMC dealership has serviced it since my ownership.

The vehicle experienced complete lifter failure on cylinder number 4 bending the intake valve push rod thus shutting down the cylinder. The vehicle has 167,000 miles and is well maintained. The vehicle gave no warning signs that there was a problem. Simply driving down the road, normal engine temperature, normal oil pressure, the check engine light comes on at the same time the engine begins to mis-fire. Pulling over to the side of the road, I could hear lifter noise from the right bank of the engine. The dealership (Ocean Crest Chevrolet/GMC Warrenton, Oregon) confirmed the damage. The mechanic and the service manager both state the damage is a direct result of the GM cylinder deactivation system, and every single one they have repaired has been cylinder number 4. They further stated that GM has recommended a lifter change when repairing the damage, in other words, the lifters that were installed when the engine was originally built are defective. This damage occurs on both the 5.3 and the 6.2 with cylinder deactivation, and according to the dealership, it begins with cylinder number 4. This problem has also been responsible for cam damage which results in total engine replacement/rebuild due to metal contaminating the oil.

The vehicle’s frame has severely rusted to the point of structural compromise. My certified mechanic determined on December 10, 2024, that the frame could not pass the state safety inspection due to advanced corrosion. Welding is now required to restore structural integrity. The truck has remained inoperable and sidelined since that date. The frame is available for inspection upon request, and I have photos, repair invoices, and a mechanic’s written evaluation. This same frame was previously reworked by GMC twice: May 7, 2018 – Frame treated for premature rust. November 4, 2019 – Frame recoated after prior treatment failed due to improper descaling. Despite these reworks under GMC direction, the issue has progressed to a dangerous level. The structural integrity of the frame is compromised. A severely rusted frame puts occupants and others on the road at risk in the event of a collision, towing, or even regular driving. A weakened frame could lead to loss of vehicle control, failure to protect occupants in a crash, or catastrophic breakage of suspension or driveline components while in motion. Yes. The problem has been confirmed by an independent certified mechanic, who inspected the frame and advised that the rust is beyond surface level and requires welding to repair. They refused to weld during winter due to safety concerns and advised that the truck could not be driven or pass inspection in its current state. The vehicle was previously serviced under GMC’s direction in 2018 and 2019 by a GMC dealer (Weird GMC) to address early frame corrosion. However, the current failure has not yet been inspected by GMC directly since becoming undriveable in late 2024. I have reached out to GMC Customer Assistance and am awaiting a response. There were no dashboard warning lights or alerts for this issue. The only indications were visible signs of rust, which rapidly worsened after the 2019 rework. My mechanic noted signs of significant corrosion during routine servicing

Catastrophic transmission failure. Original transmission failed at 113,00 miles. I replaced it at the dealership with a factory rebuilt transmission and that transmission failed after only 40,000 miles. Now the vehicle is back in the dealership shop and they want me to replace the transmission a third time. This transmission is the 6L80 which is prone to fail, the torque converter fails and the transmission locks up I contacted General Motors and filed a complaint with them and they said they would not take any action or assist me with the repair.

A week later had to put a new transmission in it. It barely would drive. So a purchase at 2,999 then to a transmission 4,800 and new control arm with ball joint with new axels. They were busted. I am experiencing an issue with a hard brake pedal on my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. This same issue was previously addressed through a recall and special coverage program by GM, which I had performed. However, the hard brake pedal condition has returned, significantly impairing stopping power at low speeds. This poses a serious safety risk, especially when towing or parking. I can no longer park my trailer safely. The vehicle is difficult to stop, and braking distance has increased substantially. This is a known issue with this model and year. It appears the prior recall may not have adequately resolved the root cause. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether additional action or recall extensions are warranted.

The engine has 160,000 miles and just driving the camshaft and the lifters went out during normal driving. It showed no problems before hand. I’ve heard from multiple people that this is a big issue with the 6.2l gmc Sierra engines. The mechanic also stated it’s there biggest problem. The repair cost are $4,000 - $6000 dollars and the have to pull the whole engine and just fixing those two things. The cost of an engine is $7000 for a used with 100,000 miles and to me it would just happen again in around 60,000 miles or less. For a new engine non oem so an off brand it would cost $8,00 - $10,000 just for the engine. Almost as much as the truck cost not including the labor. This is completely unacceptable cost for repair for a common problem with this truck.

I am the original owner of a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ) and began experiencing serious mechanical and electrical issues while the vehicle was still under warranty around 40,000 miles. These included engine RPM fluctuations at idle, vibrations under acceleration above 65 MPH, and intermittent misfiring — all symptoms that are now believed to be early indicators of defective lifters or valve train components. I also experienced repeated electrical failures including a rear turn signal malfunction due to melting/corroded taillight sockets, a thumping rear-end noise, differential knocking, and body panel issues (hood lifting at highway speeds). These were reported multiple times to authorized GMC dealers (Mike Haggerty GMC and Rizza GMC), but I was told there was no issue or no repairs were made. GM refused to assist when I escalated the issue in 2017 via a detailed email, despite all problems occurring within the warranty period. I’m now dealing with a persistent ticking sound from the engine and loss of power, which matches widespread reports of lifter failure in GM’s 5.3L/6.2L V8 engines. These failures pose both a mechanical and safety risk due to stalling, misfiring, and potential electrical fires (in my case, from a failed taillight socket). A class action lawsuit ([XXX], et al. v. General Motors LLC) has been filed regarding these known defects, yet GM has not issued a recall. I’m filing this complaint to add my case to the record and urge NHTSA to investigate these issues. I was driving around a lake with my family. We were fishing. I had no warning at all and my transmission started to sputter and jerk extremely bad and my brakes did not work at the same time. I had to use my parking break to stop my family and I from going into the lake at 40mph. I looked up on many websites and forums and saw multiple people with the same issue. I am afraid that this will happen to a young driver and it be very tragic. Please do a recall. My truck is still sitting at my house broken. I am on disability and can not afford to fix it. I was backing my boat down the ramp and the brakes were giving out. I know this was a recall issue, in the past, that I had repaired. Clearly, they repaired it with the same faulty part because it has happened again. When I took it to be repaired they said I had to pay for it this time. The issue wasn't resolved but only deferred until later, with a temporary fix. I could have ended up in the river and drowned. Paying the dealership to fix a safety issue caused by their defective parts is ridiculous.

I bought this truck used, in 2022 for $24,000... had it put up on a lift and fully gone over before purchasing. Roughly 18 months later I was notified by the garage that there were some rust holes in the frame that needed to be fixed. I had those holes repaired in March 2024, and the vehicle was inspected. At this time I went over the entire frame and found no more trouble spots. I recently went to trade-in the vehicle to buy something smaller and the dealership told me the frame was "rotted" and that the truck was essentially worthless and actually dangerous to drive. These frames are rotting from the inside out, and go from a sellable and valuable truck, to worthless within months or years. GM used inferior steel, inferior rust prevention, and is leaving countless owners stranded with vehicles they cannot sell, are unsafe to drive, and are still paying on. I still owe $10,000 on the truck and the best offer I've gotten has been $3,000. My options are to either put thousands of dollars into the vehicle and pray the rest of the frame does not suffer the same fate (unlikely), or junk the truck and buy another vehicle, meaning I'd need to pay two car loans off and only have one usable vehicle. GM knew about this issue and did not fix it and now hard working Americans are being financially devastated because of it. I bought a nice, clean 8 year old truck, and 2.5 years/20k miles later I'm left with junk and a depreciation of roughly $1 per mile for the time I've owned this vehicle. This has been an extremely stressful situation which has left me coming to terms with the fact that I'm most likely losing $10,000 because of this frame issue. This truck brand new sold for over $42,000 and 10 years later is worth about $2,000, if that. It was not beat, or neglected - simply driven and used as intended. This is unacceptable.

While driving, my wife and I heard a bang, and when she went to turn her head, she noticed that the vehicle was smoking from rear defroster, and the back windshield had smashed. we immediately pulled over and the vehicle did not stop smoking until we turned off the rear defroster. This put our safety at risk as the entire vehicle could’ve caught fire. When we went to check to see if it had been recalled, Our vehicle did not have any open recalls But we found that there were many other GMC Sierra trucks with this issue. We contacted our local dealer who confirmed that he had seen this happen to other GMC Sierra trucks. There was no warning light Or other indicator that this was going to happen. Unfortunately, Our vehicle was not included under recall N192265660 and we strongly recommend that another investigation is performed to include all 2014 GMC Sierra trucks. I have a video showing our vehicle smoking with a smashed, sliding Back windshield.

The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

Risk: A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

Brake Vacuum Pump Failure

On November 20, 2018, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE18-012 to investigate instances of sudden onset of a hard brake pedal that could result in extended stopping distance due to an issue with the brake assist vacuum pump in model year (MY) 2014 through 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series pickup trucks and MY 2015 through 2016 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon SUVs.If the brake assist vacuum pump fails to operate as intended, the amount of brake power assist supplied to the driver can be significantly reduced, extending the subject vehicle stopping distance. GM stated that the root cause of pump failures was due to foreign debris such as oil sludge in the engine oil. GM stated that this debris can become trapped by the oil inlet filter screen. Under normal operation, this screen allows a small amount of oil into the brake vacuum pump. The foreign debris can, over time, clog the pump which can cause a loss of lubrication and a reduction in the amount of vacuum produced leading to a hard pedal and extended stopping distance.On December 13, 2018, GM issued a Special Coverage (N182202780) for the brake vacuum pump issue in MY 2014-2017 trucks and 2015-2017 SUVs on the K2XX platform for 6 years or 72,000 miles. Special Coverage repair includes the replacement of the vacuum pump and vacuum pump belt. Consumers received notification of the coverage via mail. On September 6, 2019, GM notified NHTSA that it was conducting safety recall 19V-645 which reprograms the electronic brake control module (EBCM) and included approximately 3.5 million trucks and SUVs. In October 2019, GM extended the terms of special coverage N182202780 to 10 years or 150,000 miles as well as now including the entire scope of recall 19V-645. In October 2020, GM expanded the scope of coverage N182202780 to include the MY 2018 Escalade and 2019 Tahoe.The remedy implemented in GM recall 19V-645 appears to be sufficient in addressing the safety-related concerns of this issue. Loss of vacuum assist now occurs at a progressive rate as well as there being a more timely warning of a brake problem to the driver through the driver information center (DIC). In view of the recall action and revision to the special coverage, this Preliminary Evaluation is closed. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
