2017 Jeep Renegade

This vehicle’s windows dull out and side mirrors get brown and orange spots on them. Seat Belts won’t hold your seat belt and can sometimes pop out while going down the road. It sets off the seat belt alarm and you have to keep trying to get it back in. There’s a Recall for some 2017 models, but this one doesn’t fall under the recall but has the same issues for the Engine cooling fan. Electric cooling fan won’t spin and causes the car to use up coolant and overheat. This also messes with your air conditioner and causes the inside of your car to get hot as it can only blow warm air. (Injury)The plastic for the hood prop rod easily falls off and is a safety issue when you are working under the hood as the hood can fall onto your head when this plastic piece falls off. The gear shit stops working and won’t go into reverse. The parking brake pull button is located next to the cup holders and at high risk for electric damage if the cups in the cup holder leak or have condensation and leak into that parking brake pull switch. If the battery dies, and you quickly need to move the car off of a busy highway or train track, you have to take off the entire piece of the gear shift and find something small enough to fit into the hole to pop the car into neutral or reverse. This is a huge safety risk and takes too much time in high risk areas!!

I am reporting a safety issue with my 2017 Jeep Renegade. Since approximately 2022, my vehicle has repeatedly stalled while I am driving. When this happens, the battery light and multiple warning lights come on across the dashboard. Messages such as "Shift to Park" appear, the steering becomes very difficult to control, and the brakes become hard to use. This creates a dangerous situation because the vehicle loses power while I am operating it on public roads. After the vehicle stalls, it often struggles to restart and may require multiple attempts before starting again. The problem has occurred on numerous occasions and has continued despite multiple repair attempts. I have replaced approximately five alternators and three batteries, but the problem continues. I also maintain my vehicle regularly and receive routine oil changes. When I contacted Jeep regarding this issue, I was told that a low oil condition could cause the vehicle to shut off. However, I advised that my vehicle receives regular maintenance and that the oil level was not low when these incidents occurred. The ongoing stalling issue has caused me significant concern because it affects my ability to safely steer and stop the vehicle. I believe this condition presents a safety hazard to myself, my passengers, and others on the road. I am requesting that this issue be investigated. In addition to the repeated stalling issue, I have experienced ongoing charging system problems. Despite replacing approximately five alternators and three batteries, the battery warning light continues to appear, and the vehicle has tested at low charging voltage while running. The problem remains unresolved despite multiple repair attempts. I am concerned that there may be an underlying electrical, charging system, wiring, or power distribution defect that has not been properly identified or repaired. I have repeatedly reported these concerns because the vehicle continues to lose power while driving.

Honestly there are so so many problems that have occurred and all under 40,000-50,000 miles! Two recalled radiators and i know its having oberheating isuuses ahain . My car literaly got so hot it slpikt4my batery and the battery aciid smoke filled the eniter cabin are of the vehicle my kids and i in car . The back windshield exploded into spider webs type breaks randomly absolutely i have eye witnesses other than my own word as welll. There is ,more but its enough i think for now. While driving in traffIc on the freeway, my car began to shake, like driving was a struggle. Then, the car stalled and stopped working, with the display still lit and the car still in Drive. Traffic was moving at about 15 miles per hour. I had to hold the brakes to prevent my car from rolling backwards into the cars behind me. I shifted the car into Park. I turned the car off and back on, and it jolted into movement again. This stall lasted for about 30 seconds. A second attempt at restarting the car got it turn back on. No warning signs were displayed alerting me to a problem. My car was recently tuned up and no problems were reported. From research, the issue seems consistent with a fuel pump malfunction.

It began with vehicle warning lights, several, illuminating. They did not illuminate at exactly the same time (such as when a car stalls) they illuminated consecutively i.e Airbag disabled, followed by, blind spot sensors unavailable, front collision, lane departure, power steering temporarily unavailable, park assist, lane departure... all unavailable. Finally, the check engine light. Driving 65 mph until the transmission decided to no longer shift properly, which resulted in driving 45 in an 70 mph zone. Turned off vehicle and restarted, it was fine for 50 miles and began the dashboard light show again, followed by almost stalling at a toll booth. It has been "repaired" 3 times in 3 months, by Chrysler Jeep . Including a new BCM. I believe this 2017 Renegade either was not recalled during the original recall in 2017 or 2018, was not repaired, or was repaired improperly. Everything else operates properly. My vehicle is in great shape. I have video documentation of these things happening. No photos though. I do have documentation from Chrysler Jeep, just not with me at the moment.

The water line for the windshield washer reservoir running to back windshield is bundled with the electrical cables and is made out of plastic not rubber leaks inside car back passanger floor. I went online and noticed several people complaining about the same issue. Line is in a hard to reach place to replace, think manufacturer of vehicle should replace for using inferior parts and bundling it with electrical wires that my cause a short. While accelerating on freeway, engine suddenly turned off. Fuel pump went out, and I had to coast to safety avoiding traffic. Having to move lanes into the shoulder was incredibly scary once my momentum dropped to 15mph on a freeway alongside cars going 85+. It almost caused 2 separate accidents where others had to slam on their brakes. I noticed other renegades have recalls for this, I’m curious why mine does not when I enter in the vin?

While driving my car, all of a sudden all my icons on my dashboard will light up. My car will die in the middle of driving it and once I put it in park it won't restart. Also when driving it seems like not enough gas is going through to get it to move. I can be driving my car for 15 to 20 minutes and all of a sudden it dies in the middle of the road. ABS system issues: all warning lights come on - abs, traction control, parking brake (the yellow light as well as the red one. Red comes on an flashes then goes off), hill start, ect... Had codes ran that came back with several ABS related codes as well as engine codes leading back to the ABS system. Came up with right rear tone ring needs replaced. This is likely untrue as the lights come on and off leading me to believe it is more likely an issues with the speed sensor. This safety risk with this is that when the lights are on there is no traction control leading to it locking up an sliding even at low speed (few miles per hour when stopping at bottom of dirt/gravel drive way). There is also a power change lasting a few seconds while driving when the lights do go out. I have also had only a few times where the parking brake (E brake) will come on and stop me immediately when I first start to move forward.

Vehicle Safety Complaint Report: 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude The sunroof assembly failed. The entire unit appears to be permanently bonded to the roof, rather than designed for modular replacement. This design flaw makes the issue unserviceable without replacing the entire roof structure. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The sunroof will not close, which: -Makes the vehicle unfit for safe driving in any weather condition. -Increases the risk of loose objects being sucked out at high speeds, potentially striking other vehicles or pedestrians. -Leaves the interior exposed to rain or wind, reducing driver visibility and focus. -Weakens the structural integrity of the roof in the event of a rollover Presents a theft and vandalism risk due to an unsecured vehicle. This vehicle has a double sunroof, meaning nearly the entire roof is compromised when the system fails. The exposure affects both front and rear passengers, greatly increasing risk for everyone inside and for other drivers on the road. A service center confirmed that the sunroof cannot be simply repaired or replaced because it is glued into the roof. They explained that repair would require replacing the entire roof, which is thousands of dollars and not covered by any active recall or warranty. The issue has been reviewed by a service technician. At this time, the manufacturer has not formally inspected it, but the vehicle is available for inspection. There were no warning lamps or alerts. The failure occurred suddenly—the sunroof stopped closing and became stuck. This occurred without any prior mechanical symptoms or electrical malfunction warnings.

Random warning messages and lights. Power steering fails, as does the power brakes. Usually, as I'm driving, it begins with airbag warning message. Then, the warning messages increase: Front collision, lane departure, blind spot, brake, power steering. While all of these things are happening I hear my doors lock, and unlock. Finally, I lose my power steering, and power brakes, like what would happen if the car has stalled. However, it is still running. Recently, after losing the power steering and brakes, I stopped and with the car still running, I could not put up my windows.

While driving, the Service Engine warning came on and was followed by the Coolant Temperature High Warning roughly 5 minutes after. The somewhat cool air coming out turned hot, even with the settings set to Max Cool Air. Turned the vehicle off and found the engine code P0481 Fan 2 Control Circuit, I allowed the car to cool before checking fuses for the Cooling Fan. The F07 Engine Cooling Fan had a 40 Amp Fuse that was blown (Note: the owner manual states the 40 Amp fuse is for the 1.4 without A/C, the 50 Amp Red was required for a 1.4 with A/C and all 2.4 models). A new 50 Amp Maxi Fuse was installed and the car A/C cooled down for approximately 15 minutes. Then the coolant temperature started to rise again and white/grey smoke came out from under the hood. Thankfully I was able to find a safe place to stop my car, but I was driving with smoke obscuring my vision which was a serious safety issue that would have caused an accident especially if I had made it on the highway. The cooling fan was shaking and very noisy even as the car was turned off. After cooling down, the fuse was checked again and verified okay. So the cooling fan was replaced. Upon replacement, the A/C and coolant temperature were normal. But the service engine light remained and the code P0481 refused to clear. Currently monitoring the coolant temperature and new fan.

Factory settings for rear passenger window provide too much lift to window which place increase stress on weather stripping. Over time, weather stripping can break and compromise the door's electrical system. It also impairs how door closes leading to increased stress on the door pillar which can give way and break. Cracked oil pump housing/balance shaft module (BSM). The checking engine light came on, and the system requested an oil change after only 3k from the last oil change. Unknown this vehicle shuts off while in drive when it says it needs an oil change or if the oil is low. It doesn't even give you the warning before, it just shuts off while your driving. my grandfather has own he renegade since it came out in 2017. it has had nothing but issues most of which as his granddaughter i had fixed. but the last at least year I've had his vehicle illuminate a check engine light. Especially in very wet weather, cold or hot weather. If it's a normal 65-degree days for a few days, it will go off. it's a very intermittent light. that you have to catch. Taken to AutoZone, dealership, etc. It's a P0420 code which is failed catalytic converter. called and spoke to Stellantis, Mopar customer service multiple times. it's not an issue they refuse to acknowledge. also pricing for a catalytic converter isn't possible. because the only available ones are on back order hard.

The rear windows do not properly stop causing damage to the rubber window/door frame. When put up, they pass through the insert ripping the rubber trim. This also causes a space in the bottom of the window a child can stick their finger through. If not aware, when the window is lowered a finger can be severely broken

Engine malfunction with unpredictable times of hard shift jolting. It's a concern while driving and frightened when it happens. Not sure if this could get worse and could be a safety risk. Took to a dealer. Did not act up when they checked it. It has to be driven all the time to catch when it decides to act up. Happens between 2 to 3 and down from 4th to 3rd gear. No engine light indicates a problem. When I had other things fixed, I had mechanic to check it out. Invoice mentioned what was fixed but nothing stating about them running a test on what I have additionally been experiencing with the jolt as it shifts since it didn't do it at the time. Had transmission flushed hoping it would help but still does it.

I was traveling on the highway at approximately 65mph at rush hour and my vehicle's accelerator stopped working, therefore rapidly slowing down my vehicle without any messages or notifications as to why. I barely got my car to the shoulder of the highway before the accelerator became completely firm and would not allow my car to move forward any further. This happened in a span of a few seconds. Before putting my car in park, it said I needed to put it in park and depress the brake in order to shift into drive. This is the 2nd time my car has become disabled abruptly on the highway and thr first time it was taken to the jeep dealership where they said it was a fuel pump and electrical system and that my car ran out of gas without it showing I was on empty. The gauge read just short of the empty mark both times before becoming disabled but the light never came on saying I was almost out of gas.

I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude. I bought it in 2020 and had it for 2 weeks when the engine blew up. There was a recall on the engine so Chrysler paid for the “new” engine. Two weeks after I got it back it started stalling out when I was driving down the road. I had a new starter put in it and now when it decides to shut down while driving the brakes come on, including the emergency brakes, it comes to a screeching halt, and the gear shift throws itself from drive into park. I just want to either get my car fixed or Stellantis to trade with me to make things right. It is very unsafe to drive. Especially when you don’t know when it is going to do this because it doesn’t happen every time you drive the car.

My oil light indicator came on month after I had my oil changed. The jeep literally shut off on me when I was driving on a MAIN road at 45 miles an hour. This happened to me 3 times yesterday I had no safe place to pull over. I was stuck in the middle of the road with hazards on hoping no one would crash into me! I looked up recalls for my jeep and there is a recall for a cracked oil component on this jeep. But it's saying no recalls on my jeep! I looked at the symptoms of it and did some research and apparently the car shutting off is a symptom of that. The rear driver side tail light, brake light, and turn signal stopped functioning at one time while driving (leaving a parking lot). Warning indicators for all 3 appeared on the dash notice area. Checked all lights and fuses for the 3 lights to ensure nothing was damaged or blown. All were fine. The issue is the center pin for the ground wire connecting the rear lighting housing had melted. This was determined after searching online for assistance to figure out the issue, as the lights and fuses were all in working order. Apparently this is extremely common in the 2017 Jeep Renegade specifically. It is a costly repair, which most people cannot repair themselves, myself included.

On 7/26/2024 I was driving my 2017 Jeep Renegade 1.4L Eastbound on I-70 going ~65mph. My dash had zero warning lamps or messages and there were no other symptoms of any problem yet suddenly at mile marker 188 my engine had no power, abundant smoke exited my tailpipe and engine, and I was forced to immediately pull over into a shallow construction zone with heavy interstate traffic whizzing past us. I turned my vehicle off and just turned the power back on for any information. Only then did the check engine light illuminate. I searched through my dash indicators and saw that there was simply no reading for Oil Temperature. I have immaculate maintenance records since the day I purchased my vehicle in 2019 including regular full synthetic oil and filter changes (on average 2,989 miles for years). I had two multi-point vehicle inspections at my original dealer (my due diligence maintenance before my extended warranty expired) around 2,000 miles, an oil change 1,038 miles, and a cooling system pressure test at 1,029 miles before this incident occurred. I had two independent, certified mechanic companies diagnose and confirm my vehicle condition: Cylinder 1 had no compression with a crack in the piston. My vast research on Jeep Renegades with 1.4L and 2.4L engines validates all my issues. I believe this catastrophic engine failure at a shocking odometer reading of 61,881 is due to a defect and it puts me and others at major safety risk. This was my second financially offensive event as my first involved having to replace my clutch system at mile 45,057 for ~$4,500 despite having owned and properly operated other manuals with no issue for years. In addition to the cost of maintenance, multiple expensive repairs, numerous towing events, mechanic diagnostics, renting cars when this Jeep failed me, I am now looking at a $10,000 engine fix for a historically unreliable vehicle. “Swollen lug nuts” a known issue as noted by dealer mechanic. I’ve replaced some or all going on 3 times. If i have flat on interstate i cannot remove and replace a tire. This is a safety concern. .

Sudden stop entrance to an exit ramp. The engine stalled and started leaking the fluid caused some and flames - fire department had to be called. . Had to replace the engine for approx. $6600 We are still waiting on parts for the seat belts this has been over a year with jeep. The parts are backordered. The seatbelts come undone constantly on both the driver and passenger sides. Parts are $330 and labor is approx. $400 total $730. There are 90000 Jeep Wranglers with this same issues but they were recalled. We can't even get the parts it's been over a year. Axle on left side of jeep was broke -took jeep to have serviced for oil and tire rotation. Service person found that the axel was broke. Cost $1500 Service man stated the axel was like a straw.

Replaced under warranty & now is not working again. 2nd issue is coolant & flushing system. replaced las year & mechanic said it was a factory defective part. This was 2 different mechanics. I just had my car overheat on me again nearly a year later with sludge in the tank AGAIN. I AM PAYONG WAYYYYY TOO MUCH MONEY for this to be on me again! I need repairs done at your cost and a car to drive.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Renegade vehicles. Due to a software issue, multiple malfunction indicator lamps may illuminate on the instrument panel when no malfunction exists. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."

Risk: If the malfunction indicator lamps illuminate at incorrect times, the driver may be unaware when a true malfunction occurs, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Instrument Panel Control software, free of charge. The recall began on September 14, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T50.

Risk: An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

In certain operating conditions such as high power demand in conjunction with high altitude and/or high ambient temperatures, a manufacturing error in the fuel pump assembly may result in a loss of fuel pressure.

Risk: A loss of fuel pressure can cause a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
