2016 Infiniti QX60

I am reporting a serious safety concern with my 2016 Infiniti QX60 involving a defective cooling fan system. The vehicle currently experiences a ticking/tapping noise from the cooling fan, and the fan does not operate properly, which has caused the engine to overheat. This condition creates a significant safety hazard, as engine overheating can lead to sudden engine failure while driving, increasing the risk of an accident. The issue also makes it unsafe to use essential features such as the air conditioner in hot weather and the defroster in cold conditions, which impacts visibility and driver safety. This defect appears to be part of a known issue affecting this vehicle platform, where the cooling fan system fails prematurely. I understand there have been allegations, including in Anderson v. Nissan North America, that the manufacturer may have been aware of this defect but did not adequately disclose it. In addition, I am aware that this vehicle model has been associated with other safety-related recalls, including issues involving the ABS actuator (which may pose a fire risk) and the hybrid powertrain control system (if applicable). These existing concerns further highlight the urgency of addressing this defect. This is not normal wear and tear, but a potential safety-related defect that places drivers, passengers, and others on the road at risk. I am concerned about continuing to operate this vehicle and potentially causing an accident or injury due to overheating or loss of vehicle function. I am requesting that this issue be formally investigated to determine whether a recall or corrective action is necessary to prevent harm.

Component: Air Bags / Occupant Classification System (OCS) Problem Description: The Occupant Classification System (OCS) in my 2016 Infiniti QX60 is malfunctioning. The passenger airbag indicator light flickers on and off even when the passenger seat is empty. When an adult passenger is seated properly with the seatbelt fastened, the system frequently fails to detect the occupant and does not consistently indicate that the passenger airbag is active. The issue occurs intermittently and unpredictably, both while driving and shortly after vehicle startup. Dealer Repair Attempts: I have brought the vehicle to the Infiniti dealership multiple times for this issue. Each visit resulted in a paid service where the dealership “reset” the OCS module and stated the issue was resolved. However, the malfunction returned immediately. On one occasion, the issue reoccurred as soon as I pulled out of the dealership parking lot, at which point I returned the vehicle to service. After that visit, I was told the only solution would be to replace all related components at my expense. Recall Concern: Although my VIN does not currently show an active recall, the 2016 Infiniti QX60 model year is known to have a recall for an OCS airbag defect. My vehicle is exhibiting the exact same symptoms described in the recall. The dealership has refused to perform the repair under recall coverage solely because my VIN is not listed. Safety Risk: This is a serious safety concern. The passenger airbag may fail to deploy when an adult is present, increasing the risk of severe injury or death in the event of a collision. The system cannot be relied upon to function properly. Outcome Requested: I am requesting that this defect be investigated and addressed as a safety-related issue consistent with the known recall affecting this model year.

The electric controlled coupling failed and as a result, the AWD failed. There is vibration when turning and driving 25 mph. The grinding noise remained after I got new brakes and I was told it’s from the coupling trying to power the AWD. I took my 2016 QX60 to the dealer and also to a foreign car auto shop and they both confirmed it needs to be replaced. When the coupling is unplugged, the noise is not present.

As the vehicle attempted to drive around, the contact was hit by the passing vehicle. A police report was filed at the scene; however, the police report was not available due to an ongoing investigation. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in the mechanic's possession. The dealer was notified of the failure and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V244000(Air Bags) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. 2016 Infiniti QX60 93,000 miles The battery light was on. I have noticed that my CVT transmission goes into limp mode. This has happened several times with no help from infiniti. I can only go 10MPH and it revs only 1000 RPM, then it'll be fine after I turn off and on again. Had battery and alternator checked and they're 100% good. This is very dangerous when it happenes in traffic and infiniti won't do anything.

Air bag light began blinking notifying me of an issue. The vehicle is available for an inspection. I took car to dealer for diagnostic check. The dealer informed me that it is the drivers side airbag causing the issue. This is a safety component of the vehicle and puts the driver and all occupants at risk should their be an airbag failure in an accident. Issue has been through a diagnostic check by the dealer and confirmed. They recommended 1) that I replace the seatback which is a costly repair. In their words, "we have seen this occur in several Infiniti models and recommended that I contact the Infiniti Consumer Affairs office as it is not under any recalls. Seatbelts are covered under the lifetime warranty of the vehicle but not the airbags." Car has had the warning lamp display for approximately 30 days now. it began end of July/early August. The vehicle has approximately 115k miles and has never been in an accident.

While driving down a clear road on a beautiful day, the sunroof in my QX60 randomly exploded, outwardly. It sounded like a gunshot hit the car. Glass went everywhere, hit oncoming traffic, the windshield, and hood of car. We immediately pulled over and noticed the sunroof was expanding outwardly towards the sky, not inward. It was making a concerning sound in the process. The sound scared all of and almost caused a wreck. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and my husband was in the passenger side and my 20 month old son was in the back seat car seat.

INFINITI QX60 NOW HAS CREATED A CONSTANT YELLOW FALSE WARNING PICTURE/LIGHT ON IN CAR INDICATING THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IF OFF EVEN THOUGH NO ONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. IF AN INFANT OR A SMALL CHILD IS PLACED IN THE SEAT, SINCE THE YELLOW WARNING PICTURE/ LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON, A TRUE AND ACTUAL HAZARD MAY BE OVERLOOKED. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A FALSE CONSTANT WARNING LIGHT WHEN NO ONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. ASK INFINITI TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG SO THAT IT WORKS AS THE MANUAL INDICATES. WHEN NO ONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT THE WARNING PICTURE WILL ILLUMINATE FOR 7 SECONDS AND THEN CUT OFF. WHEN AN INFANT OR SMALL CHILD IS SITTING IN THE SEAT, THEN THE LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON INDICATING THAT THERE IS A TRUE HAZARD. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.

Risk: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available.
