Toyota South Atlanta in Morrow, Georgia, released my vehicle after a factory warranty repair for transmission failure. However, they failed to properly complete or verify the repair. The dashboard is now throwing critical error codes stating 'A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected' and 'A malfunction in the VSC, TRAC, or hill-start assist control system has been detected.' Additionally, their own technician documented that my front brakes FAILED. They forced me to drive away without a safety waiver, and a front brake pad has since completely fallen out in front of my home . The vehicle suffers from total mechanical transmission and brake failure.

The vehicle's infotainment system, specifically when utilizing Android Auto, is subject to recurrent, unprompted UI freezes and interface crashes while the vehicle is in motion. These malfunctions are induced by a persistent server-side enterprise management policy ('DISABLED_BY_ADMIN_POLICY') applied to the connected mobile device. The resulting software-induced failures cause the vehicle's display to freeze or become unresponsive, creating a severe and unpredictable distraction to the driver while operating the vehicle. Despite documenting these incidents, the manufacturer’s support team has refused to remediate the software conflict, instead instructing the user to power down the device during operation. The interface failure persists across multiple driving sessions, presenting a continuous risk of operator distraction and loss of critical navigation/safety data.

The "Engine Maintenance Required" signal keeps coming on when I start my vehicle and the A/C is on. It is a fault of a code for the bypass coolant valve, which is in perfect condition. I just took my vehicle for the regular maintenance over the weekend. The regular "Maintenance Required" signal went off after picking it up. After an hour or two, the "Engine" signal reappeared. This is a common issue in the Toyota's and I shouldn't have to be financially responsible for a faulty code.

I am writing to formally report a serious safety concern regarding my vehicle’s airbag system following a recent accident. On April 22, 2026, I was involved in a significant collision while driving my Toyota Corolla 2022. The impact was severe enough that the other vehicle involved deployed its airbags. However, despite the force of the crash, the airbags in my vehicle did not deploy. I am extremely concerned that the airbag system may have failed to function as designed. Given that airbags are a critical safety feature intended to protect occupants in high-impact collisions, this raises serious questions about the reliability and safety of my vehicle.

The component that failed is the coolant bypass valve, which is part of the engine cooling system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The issue was first indicated by an "Engine Maintenance Required" warning message that appeared on the dashboard. No prior symptoms were noticeable before the warning appeared. The warning came on suddenly during normal driving conditions. This failure poses a potential safety risk because the coolant bypass valve regulates engine temperature. If it malfunctions, it may lead to improper engine cooling, overheating, reduced engine performance, or sudden breakdown while driving. This could increase the risk of being stranded in traffic or experiencing a hazardous situation on the road. The problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized Toyota dealership, which identified the coolant bypass valve as failed and in need of replacement. The dealership provided a repair estimate of $775 prior to taxes and fees. The manager shared that it would be around $890+ after it is all calculated. The vehicle has not been involved in any accident related to this issue, but the malfunction was verified through dealer inspection. No police or insurance reports were filed, as this was a mechanical failure. Based on personal research, this appears to be a widespread issue affecting similar Toyota vehicles, including other Corollas and RAV4 models, where the same component has failed under similar conditions. In some cases, repairs have been covered by the manufacturer, indicating awareness of the issue. There are many groups on Facebook and Reddit where customers with the same make and model 2022 Toyota Corolla SE have had the same issue after 3 years of having the vehicle. In summary, while driving under normal conditions, the warning message appeared without prior indication. The dealership later confirmed that the coolant bypass valve had failed and required replacement.

Hello, on October 14th 2024 I reached out to Toyota over a “engine maintenance required” message on my dash along with a check engine light. I took it to the local toyota dealership in Downey CA. After testing the Engine coolant bypass valve B Control circuit high failed. Toyota replaced the valve on October 21st 2024. Issuing me a 1year/12,000 mile warranty. On Thursday January 15th 2026 the drive start control malfunction warning light along with a P26AE error code displayed. Upon testing the engine coolant bypass valve B control circuit high failed again. Speaking with Toyota my vehicle VIN is not part of the CSP service campaign they have for 19-23 Corolla models. I spoke with Toyota Corporate and they couldn’t/wouldn’t help. This is a severe safety risk as the valve failed at a moments notice with no warning or symptoms. Additionally it can lead to engine stall and catastrophic damage, risking other drivers if engine loses power. This is an ongoing and recurring issue with RAV4/Corolla/Cross models and Toyota is facing a lawsuit here in California from other drivers with the same problem. I would like for my VIN to be added to the safety recall as Toyota Knowingly replaced the Valve with the same defective part per the technician who fixed my vehicle the first time who warned me this was going to happen again. Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am submitting this email to formally report a potential vehicle safety defect involving my 2022 Toyota Corolla. Vehicle information: - Make/Model: 2022 Toyota Corolla - In-service date: 08/18/2022 My vehicle sustained significant wiring damage caused by rodents. Toyota has denied warranty and financial assistance, characterizing the issue as an “outside influence.” However, according to what I read online, modern vehicles —including Toyota models—use soy-based or bio-based wiring insulation, which is widely documented to attract rodents. The damage affected critical electrical wiring, creating potential safety hazards including loss of vehicle function and increased fire risk. This is not merely cosmetic damage but impacts essential vehicle systems. The foreseeability of rodent attraction due to wiring materials raises concerns of a design-related safety defect and failure to adequately warn consumers. Toyota has stated there are no recalls or customer support programs addressing this issue, despite recurring reports from vehicle owners nationwide. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter as a potential safety defect and consider whether further investigation is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this safety concern. Sincerely,

2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Touchscreen/Infotainment Display randomly shut down while driving without warning and no longer functions. This could not be reset by holding the power button or disconnecting the vehicle battery. The backup camera still works, and the radio can be heard when the power button is pressed, but the display remains on a black screen and none of the controls on the steering wheel or headunit work. At night, the lights on the buttons for the multimedia display turn on and off every 10 seconds which is extremely distracting and has the potential to cause an accident. This defective part serves as a safety issue, as this is where critical maintenance and hybrid battery power related errors displayed. In addition there are many critical controls locked behind the screen related to door locks, hybrid battery usage, and other vehicle controls, as well as personal data that may now be at risk and unable to be able to be deleted. Vehicle was inspected by a Lia Toyota of Rockland Dealership Service department and determined to be a faulty display, requiring a compete unit replacement. The quoted cost is $2500, and despite my car having only 35500 miles, this is not covered under any warranty due to being outside the 36 month time window. The multimedia display in this car is a critical component and is just as vital to the car as the engine/transmission. It is a shame that Toyota reliability is a thing of the past.

I was at a red light and when it turned green, I had the clutch in and was in first gear, but as soon as I barely lifted my foot, the car started moving forward on its own. I almost rolled into the car in front of me. At first, I thought maybe it was just me or the shoes but then I noticed the clutch felt like it was getting stuck while pressed. When I tried changing gears, it made a metal-on-metal scratching noise. When I was coming to a stop, the car wouldn’t slow down properly because the clutch wasn’t responding. I couldn’t press it in, and since there were pedestrians nearby, I had to slow the car down by shifting gears without using the clutch and pedestrians got anxious and mad around me because they had to speed up to the safe side, pulled to the side and checked the pedal, thinking maybe something was in the way, but when I pumped it a few times, it started working again. for a moment. Then at another red light, the clutch pedal went soft and wouldn’t engage again. I couldn’t move the car. Eventually, it turned off, and I managed to get it into first gear and restart it, but the car jumped forward as soon as it started. I kept pressing gas and going, but I couldn’t shift into second gear anymore. Traffic was building up and I barely made it to a safe spot near a crosswalk. It felt unsafe to drive. And had to be tow then I did some bleedings and changed fluids no response. After finally being seing by toyota and researching; all Toyota Corolla from 2020 and up have this problem the so called Clutch Master Cylinder it breaks so premature my car barely has 41k miles on it. Toyota defectively designed and/or manufactured coolant bypass valves ("the Defect") that prematurely fail. When the Defect manifests, coolant leaks out of the closed-loop coolant system. This adversely impacts the ability of the coolant system to properly regulate the temperature of the engine, and can lead to engine overheating, stalling, increased emissions and catastrophic engine failure. In addition, the leaking coolant can leak into the surrounding engine components, including the electrical system, and damage those components. The leaking coolant can also corrode the sensor on the coolant bypass valve, which causes it to remain stuck in the "open" or "closed" position and thus impedes its ability to properly direct coolant throughout the engine, thereby impeding the ability of the engine to operate within the appropriate parameters. When the Defect manifests, it also causes a message to appear on the dashboard over the speedometer, which states: "Engine Maintenance Required" and "Visit Your Dealer." The message cannot be dismissed or otherwise removed from the dash of the Class Vehicle by the operator of the Class vehicle, and instead must be brought to a dealership or to a mechanic. The message is distracting and obscures a significant portion of the speedometer. blocks other important, safety-related messages that are intended to display in the same area of the dash occupied by the message. Cars system reads “engine maintenance required” due to coolant bypass valve, car is only at 42,000 (6,000 miles past warranty) was told it’s not covered under powertrain warranty and was charged almost $1000 to get it fixed

M car was towed to Toyota because my automatic parking brake failed to release. No warning lights nor any indication my battery was low. It licked my rear wheels so I could not drive. (Thank God I was not in a fire zone requiring evacuation!) there are NO manual release for the emergency brake to use in an emergency to flee an area. They said my battery was not carrying the load, and replaced it. This is a very serious safety issue! What if it was a Sunday and Toyota closed?? Most repair shops are closed on Sundays! I’m [XXX] and [XXX]. PLEASE ADVISE TOYOTA TO ADD OR RETROFIT A MANUAL PARKING BRAKE RELEASE to resolve this issue. AND….check to make sure their analysis was correct that my battery was too low! SteeringMay 2024 · ODI 11590866Details +Close −
When traveling via highway at approximately 60 MPH, the right front tire struck a small pothole. The vehicle continued driving normally until stopping at a light. Thereafter, the front right wheel started making rhythmic vibration noises while vibrating extensively, transferring to the steering wheel. Upon visual inspection, nothing appeared wrong. After driving several miles, the vibration died down to a small trickle and now remains along with humming at faster highway speeds. This imitates a broken wheel bearing that occurred on the left front tire, but the Toyota dealer has refused to acknowledge any issue let alone inspect it. This sudden - yet entirely associated with driving - impact clearly caused damage to the wheel bearing and will accelerate its failure. If this occurs at such a rate the bearing fails upon contact with such driving conditions, drivers may lose ability to control their car altogether. A similar issue occurred and was remedied by the dealer for the left wheel. This could be a design flaw resulting from placing too large of tires and too stiff suspension for the Corolla, resulting in mechanical damage whilst driving in normal conditions, which could lead to the failure of steering related mechanical components. The end result of which could be death. Such theories have not been investigated. No warning lamps displayed at any time.

The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, though the steering itself did not move, the vehicle began to jerk and sway left to right, causing the contact to spin out and veer into the next lane. As a result, the vehicle collided with a semi-truck on the passenger side of the vehicle. The collision with the semi-truck sent the vehicle careening, clipping another passenger vehicle before coming to a complete stop on the shoulder of the roadway. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. An occupant of the other passenger vehicle bumped her head in an undisclosed location, and the contact was unaware if medical treatment was sought. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard pending review by the contact's insurance provider. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000.
