My check engine and ICS sensor lights came on. My diagnostic shows a failing fuel pump exactly as recall 20TA02. My car is not on the recall list but is presenting the same issue. I was driving on the road when this occurred and my car started stalling and jerking on the road. I had to quickly and safely exit the road and go back home.

2019 Toyota Camry with UA80 8-speed automatic transmission experienced complete transmission failure. Vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic confirming transmission failure. Toyota was contacted for goodwill assistance under case number 260701001190. Toyota has missed multiple promised supervisor callbacks and has not resolved the matter. This transmission is currently the subject of three federal class action lawsuits alleging Toyota knowingly sold vehicles with defective UA80 transmissions prone to premature failure due to heat buildup and defective software programming.

My vehicle completely lost power and stalled on the freeway, requiring a tow. A Toyota dealership has diagnosed it with a total internal failure of the UA80 transmission and quoted me $9,000. This vehicle has been properly maintained, including a documented transmission fluid service at a Toyota facility in March of this year. A modern powertrain should not suffer a life-threatening failure at 130,000 miles. Because of this severe safety defect and my documented maintenance history, I am requesting a Corporate Goodwill Accommodation to cover or significantly cost-share this replacement.

Vehicle has 75,000 original miles. At around 73,000 miles, I began to hear a whining noise from the engine bay while accelerating at highway speeds. I took the car into the dealership where they confirmed the transmission has failed and needs to be replaced. All routine maintenance has been done on schedule and is on record with the dealership since original vehicle deployment. This vehicle has the UA80 transmission that is the center of multiple class-action lawsuits in the US due to early failure, allegedly due to design flaws.

At approximately 93,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a sudden transmission malfunction. About one week before the failure, intermittent warning messages appeared for Emergency Braking Malfunction and Forward Collision Warning Malfunction. These warnings appeared and disappeared several times over multiple days. About three days before the major transmission issues began, the vehicle was taken to an authorized Toyota dealership in North Brunswick, New Jersey, for a routine oil change. At that time, the vehicle was operating normally, and no transmission-related issues were reported. 3 days later, the warning messages returned, and the check engine light came on. Around the same time, the vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems, including delayed shifting, harsh gear changes, and RPM flare-ups without corresponding acceleration. These issues created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could hesitate or fail to accelerate properly when merging into traffic, turning at intersections, or attempting to avoid hazards. The unpredictable shifting and loss of power increased the risk of a collision. After the check engine light appeared, the vehicle was returned to the same Toyota dealership. The dealership performed diagnostic testing and identified internal transmission and transmission control system faults, including solenoid-related failures and torque converter clutch issues. The dealership determined that the transmission requires full replacement and provided a repair estimate of approximately $12,000. The vehicle has no known prior accident damage related to this issue. there are numerous consumer complaints involving similar transmission problems in 2018–2019 Toyota Camry vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. I am filing this complaint because this failure occurred at relatively low mileage for a Toyota vehicle and presents a significant safety concern due to unpredictable power delivery and loss of acceleration.

June 9,2026 I was in gig harbor washington visiting my son. I pulled into the right side of the drive way as I have done a 1000 times over the years. I was slowly pulling up to the right side of the garage and the car surged forward at full speed 5 ft away. It smashed the front of the house. Filed a claim with USAA car insurance. Last year in August of 2025 I was in the Tag n Go car wash. I pulled up they stopped me and I put the car in neutral. This let the car wash pull my car throught the car wash on a one track driver side system. My windshield was covered with soap and the car surged forward and hit the SUV in front of me. When the soap rinsed off I wash under the car in front of me. I put the car in reverse from neutral. It caused no damage to the car in front but caused about $1700.00 damage to my car. The car wash had video that showed my car surge forward and hit the car in front of me. This is two incidents in 11 months of my camry surging forward.

Disgusted & deeply disappointed in my first (& last) experience owning a Toyota is an understatement. I confidently purchased a brand new Camry in 2019, based on their reputation for reliability. But, as soon as the warranty expired, the problems began. First, the electronic water pump failed, costing me $1200. The thermostat failed while I was on vacation last year, costing $300ish. Multiple battery issues. Then, a few months pass, check engine light pops up. Says it needs an O2 sensor. Replace it, light goes off, only to come back a few days later. Take to dealership where they charge me $200 to diagnose. They inform me the car will not accept after market parts & I'll need to purchase one from them instead for around $600. Yes. $600 for an O2 sensor. At only 129k miles, the transmission failed. The car stopped in the middle of an intersection & would not move forward, nearly causing me & my child to be hit. Mechanic informs me that it can be upwards of $7k to replace with a used transmission, $11k for new, & that's only WHEN they can get the part, which is on back order for MONTHS. This is because the supply can't keep up with the demand, as this model has widespread transmission issues. It was explicitly stated it is a "manufacturer defect." Yet, no recall. My online research absolutely supports that this is a large & very common problem that should warrant some responsibility from Toyota. It was on a rollback 4 times in 1 year. So, I was put in a position where I was forced to buy another car, since obviously I can't go without one for months. My 6 year old car (at time of breakdown) is now basically junk. It sits in my driveway, worthless, just 7 months after payoff.

We experienced rough shifting, engine revving and now it won't shift out of first gear. The car is not driveable. We've taken it to Town & Country Toyota in Charlotte, NC where they said it could not be repaired and it needed replacing for $12,000. The car has 121,000 miles and is not under warranty. Also took it to an independent transmission shop and they said to replace the transmission as well. We think Toyota should issue a recall or some kind of compensation for this major expense. I have lots of stories similar to this by owners with 2018-2022 Toyota Camrys. Thank you.

I am writing to formally document a serious safety incident involving my 2019 Toyota Camry XSE (VIN: [XXX]) and to express my deep dissatisfaction with the reliability of this vehicle and my experience obtaining support and repairs. On XXX while driving northbound on [XXX] to attend a wedding approximately 90 minutes from my home, my vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous malfunction while traveling at approximately 70 mph. While operating at highway speed, I pressed the accelerator pedal in an attempt to maintain and increase speed with traffic flow. Although the engine RPMs increased, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The engine appeared to respond to throttle input, but power was not being transferred to the wheels. This unexpected loss of propulsion occurred without warning. The failure created an immediate safety hazard. As my vehicle rapidly lost the ability to keep pace with surrounding traffic, I narrowly avoided being struck by a freight truck traveling behind me. I was forced to coast the vehicle to the shoulder of the interstate while surrounded by highway traffic. This was a frightening experience that placed my safety and the safety of others at risk. After the incident, the vehicle was inspected by a Toyota dealership in Kennesaw, Georgia. I was quickly advised that the transmission was the source of the problem. While I understand that a formal diagnosis may be required to determine the exact cause of the failure, I was surprised to learn that the transmission was believed to have failed. This vehicle has had only one owner and has never exhibited any warning signs, symptoms, or performance issues that would have led me to believe there was a transmission problem. The transmission had not been slipping, hesitating, making unusual noises, or displaying any other indications of impending failure. Given these facts, I find it difficult to understand how a transmission in a Toyota vehicle could suddenly fail. Vehicle shut off while driving on highway during morning rush. Car shut off within seconds of flashing dashboard. I was in a dangerous situation with the possibility of creating a major highway accident, I was stuck on the highway with disappearing breakdown lane. Pulled code P26CB on OBD code reader at auto zone; P26CB7 pulled on Toyota diagnostic code reader= Engine coolant pump actuator stuck. Active tested water pump and pump. It working. Tested for power and ground at the pump and good. Need to replace electric water pump per Toyota. Diagnostic test $184.95 at Toyota. Toyota requesting $1,400.00 for repair not including diagnostic testing. Called Toyota dealership and Toyota and was told it doesn’t fall under warranty or goodwill that code P26CB isn’t the same as their code P26CB7. After the incident I researched Toyota Camry and this is a well documented issue that is being declined. My Toyota Camry was bought brand new and has 49,000 miles. I am traumatized and disappointed with the product and services I have received with this 2019 Toyota Camry.

The UB80E (Front-Wheel Drive) transmission had a total failure at only 70,000 miles. The vehicle started to make unusual noises with harsh and delayed shifting. No warning lights or messages were displayed at any time. The mechanic who replaced the transmission stated my trans fluid was burned up possibly due to faulty overheated components and in his experience many Toyota models were suffering the same premature transmission issues. My cost for a rebuilt transmission was $7,700 plus 667.00 for a rear trans mount, as well as the cost of a rental car. I have all repair receipts for inspection. This defect in the UB80E transmission warrants immediate investigation by the NTSB as is a legitimate safety issues for the passengers of these Toyota models.

One day it was fine; driving normal, no erratic behavior. The next day the transmission starts slipping gears, shifting harshly, car shaking, and getting stuck in gear. Driving with my car acting up, having to pull over and turn the car off and back on just to try and get the transmission under control; which didn’t work. My check engine light didn’t even come on until AFTER my transmission completely failed. I have been without my car since February 2nd 2026 because I simply cannot afford to have my vehicle repaired. The 2019 model year UA80 transmission abruptly failed while driving at under 88,000 miles, just a bit beyond the warranty period. I have to sell the car as is and take a $10,000 loss because of this defect by Toyota. My mechanic has photos and will document all the details. My safety was absolutely at risk when the vehicle abruptly stopped on the road while driving during a major rain storm but luckily nothing bad happened. Thankfully I was on a local surface street and not the freeway or a busy intersection. I was towed to my mechanic that has been servicing my vehicle since 2021. My mechanic did a thorough inspection and determined the transmission had failed. He also confirmed this is a chronic problem with several make and model years for several Toyota and Lexus vehicles that use the UA80 transmission. I also learned several class action lawsuits against Toyota were recently filed. There was really no warning other than it ran a little rough in the morning 2 days prior to the car stopping abruptly on the road. This was just a week or so after being with my mechanic for regular service. There are no replacement UA80 units available from Toyota, they are on back order due to all the failures, so my only option is to walk away and take a huge loss or spend $9,000 on a used unit that will ultimately have the same issue. I am probably going to sell at a loss and get a different vehicle.

While driving, the vehicle experiences unintended braking and refusal to accelerate. ABS, traction control, pre-collision system, and secondary collision brake warnings illuminate. Toyota dealer diagnostics documented ABS and brake system fault codes C1201 and C1A50. The vehicle also produces a loud whining/buzzing noise from the brake actuator area while stationary. Dealers have recommended transmission replacement despite active ABS/PCS fault codes and safety system involvement. The condition temporarily resets after battery disconnect but returns. This presents a safety risk due to unintended braking and loss of vehicle control. When this happened I was in the street with my daughter in the back we could have got injured.

Took into dealer for 90k service which included transmission fluid change. After the service I noticed that the bill didn’t include transmission fluid on the materials list. I called the service advisor and asked if it had been changed. The service advisor said he couldn’t prove it as it was not listed so he asked that I bring it back in and he will make sure it is changed. I brought the car back in.. The service team never mentioned any concerns with transmission. Whining started a couple weeks after. I took my car to transmission shop, who inspected a found black burnt transmission fluid with metal pieces. I informed them that I brought my car in for service which was supposed to include a transmission fluid change. They said it didn’t look like it was changed, and if it was, the the service tech would have noticed the black fluid and should have advised of transmission concerns. I was advised that the transmission is damaged beyond being rebuild and needs to be replaced. This failure is a known and acknowledged issue with Toyota UA80F/E transmissions. My 2019 Toyota Camry has 75,000 miles and is experiencing a premature and progressive transmission failure that creates serious safety risks. Symptoms include hesitation and loss of power during acceleration, harsh and delayed shifting, RPMs increasing without vehicle movement, failure to properly engage gears (including reverse), and loud whining/grinding noises. These issues make the vehicle unsafe to drive, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or accelerating from a stop. Toyota and the dealership have confirmed the transmission is failing, yet Toyota has stated that no new or used replacement transmission is available and no repair timeline exists. The vehicle was returned to me despite being unsafe. Toyota has provided no transportation assistance, no repair ETA, and no remedy, leaving me with an undrivable vehicle and ongoing financial obligations. I am aware of numerous similar consumer complaints and ongoing litigation involving Toyota’s 8-speed automatic transmissions exhibiting the same symptoms. This appears to be a systemic defect that poses a safety risk to drivers and the public. I am requesting NHTSA review and investigation.

I am reporting a safety-related transmission failure in my 2019 Toyota. The vehicle suddenly lost the ability to drive forward without any warning. There were no check engine lights, warning lights, or alerts before or during the failure. The vehicle would only go in reverse and became completely undrivable. At the time of the failure, my children and my elderly mother were in the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk. Had this occurred in traffic or at an intersection, it could have resulted in an accident. After the failure, I contacted over 30 transmission shops and mechanics, and none are willing to rebuild or repair the transmission due to known and recurring issues with this Toyota transmission model. I contacted Toyota directly and was provided a repair estimate of approximately $8,000, which is unreasonable for a 2019 vehicle and makes repair financially impossible. The vehicle was towed and remains undrivable. I am currently paying $30 per day for a rental vehicle, causing financial hardship. I am submitting this complaint so this issue is documented as a potential safety defect

Transmission issues when shifting from park to drive, reverse to drive, and randomly when driving. Numerous times when pulling out in traffic from dead stop after shifting from park to drive car didn’t accelerate leaving car drifting into oncoming traffic until gear engaged which is very dangerous to the point I wouldn’t let my wife drive the car. Warning light has came on a handful of times and had been dismissed as not an issue until this past time of putting it in the shop. Car was in shop for this issue 4 times starting in 5/25 and is currently in shop now. My visit in June I expressed same concerns and service center told me my transmission was fine. This current visit at service center they told me I’m going to need a new transmission. Vehicle has 70k miles and transmission is already failing due to a faulty product. Toyota needs to be held responsible for this as it is a major safety concern and they advertise as a reliable car maker but with these transmission issues that numerous people are also dealing with that can’t be true and is false advertising

My car would not go passed 10mph at times. When going up hill it would barely move. At the time I had to drive up hill to leave home on a main road & this put myself & others in danger. I took my car to the dealership where they told me I needed a new transmission. At this time the car had less that 100k miles on it. There were no warning lights on the vehicle. I called the the manufacturer who said it could only be covered if it fit the TSB 0152-19 which the dealer claimed it didn't. I ended up having to pay out of pocket.

There is a very widely known issue with Toyota Camrys 2018 to 2024 due to the 8 speed automatic transmission. My safety reason for reporting is without warning I was accelerating to pull out at a intersection and it just started reving up to a high rpms and would not hardly move . This is gonna get some one killed this is very dangerous. Toyota already has 2 class action lawsuits due to these transmissions and just in the usa alone from speaking to Toyota dealership in California and in North Carolina that they have over 100 on national backorder. This is a serious safety hazard. Time will show I am right.
