The vehicle's braking system intermittently self-activates, engaging the brakes with no obstruction, pedestrian, or object present in the vehicle's path and no driver input. This creates an unpredictable, unprovoked braking event while driving, which is a direct safety hazard to the driver and to other vehicles on the road that may not anticipate sudden deceleration. A distinct pattern has been observed: after the brake pedal is touched, the vehicle behaves as though it believes it is on an incline, repeatedly reapplying the brakes on its own in a pulsing or repeated manner, even on flat, level ground with no incline present. This repeated self-application occurs without further driver input. The dealership has attempted repairs on multiple occasions. On the first visit, the brake booster was replaced. This did not resolve the issue, and additionally caused the brake lights to remain illuminated overnight, draining the vehicle battery. On a second visit, a brake bracket was replaced; the self-braking defect recurred within minutes of leaving the dealership. On a third visit, the vehicle was retained by the dealership for approximately three weeks, during which a brake switch was replaced; the defect recurred after approximately one day of normal driving. The problem has been reproduced and acknowledged by the dealership's service department on multiple occasions, as evidenced by the repeated repair attempts targeting the braking system (brake booster, brake bracket, brake switch). Despite three separate repair attempts across different brake-related components, the dealership has been unable to identify or correct the root cause. Dealership service management stated they can only make repair recommendations and cannot guarantee that any given repair will resolve the issue, and that their process involves replacing parts until the defect happens to stop occurring. The dashboard brake warning light is on, and an ABS warning light also illuminates intermittently.

On Friday, December 5, 2025, I was coming out of the driveway at the Jack In The Box on the corner of El Camino & Nobili Avenue in Santa Clara. My foot was on the break as I was going to stop at the end of the driveway to check to see if there was any traffic coming down Nobili before I exited the Jack In The Box driveway. All of a sudden before I even hit the end of the driveway while I had my foot on the brake, the car started to speed up (unintentional acceleration)and I continued to press my foot down harder on the brake, but nothing could stop it. A lot of black smoke came up out of the steering wheel area where it attached to the dashboard & all of the air bags around the car deployed. Then my car completely turned itself around and the front of my car was now facing the driveway that I had just come out of. This torque of acceleration and braking is why my car spun around 180 degrees. The vehicle had sustained damage to the front end, the hood, front bumper cover, right front head lamp was cracked, and the Toyota emblem was missing. (See attached photos taken at the time of the accident) Since all of the air bags in the whole car had completely deployed, I found that the only way I could get out of the car was to slide myself under the air bag that surrounded the driver side door. As I got out of the car, the rib that is directly under my right breast began to hurt very badly and it was hard for me to take a breath with the pain from that rib. I also had a bad headache, too. Plus, the top of my left hand was all red and felt like something had scratched the whole back of my hand. It hurt to touch it. I was also light-headed.The car, I was told, looked like I had hit a wall. The whole left front side of the car was severely mangled - the hood, the fender, and the tire was flat. The shocking thing was that I had not had an encounter with any car, nor had they hit me, to account for this damage.The Police & Fire Dept.& EMT's were called.

The contact owned a 2015 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving forward towards the end of a driveway, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle experienced a sudden and unintended acceleration as if the accelerator pedal was depressed down to the floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact noticed that there was smoke coming out of the steering wheel, and the contact blacked out for a couple of seconds. The contact stated that upon regaining consciousness, the contact noticed that the vehicle had turned around with the front end facing the driveway. The contact noticed that all the air bags had deployed, which required the contact to slide underneath the driver's side curtain air bags to exit the vehicle. The contact stated that the front of the vehicle, the hood, and the front driver's side of the vehicle were damaged; however, the damage did not extend to the driver's side door. The contact stated that the cause of the damage was unknown because there was no collision. A bystander advised the contact to call 911. The ambulance arrived, and the contact was sited down in hope that the severity of her headaches would reduce. The contact's friend transported the contact to the residence, and the contact was then transported to the Emergency Room, where the contact underwent a CT scan. The contact sustained severe headaches. bruised left hand with swollen index finger, soreness of the shoulders and a rib, nausea, difficulty breathing, fever, body ache while standing up and sitting down and while turning to the side. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance company. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

P20565R16 all four tires. These tires from Bridgestone have a UTQG rating of 640 A A with a "warranty" by the manufacture of 75,000 miles. The current set of tires on my car have approximately 18,000 miles and are very worn. The tire wear gauge reads 5/32 reaming tread. I doubt that the next 3/32 (5/32 - 2/32) will give me the remaining 57,000 miles. I buy my tires based on the UTQG rating. It's a good indicator of tire wear and has been fairly reliable up to this point. I Googled the tire to see if others have similar experience. The answer was YES. It appears that Bridgestone has a problem with tire wear on these tires. Reviews all pointed to terrible tire wear. Sadly, My wife's car had Firestone tires that we just replaced. Those had only 22,000 miles, but had a 600 UTQG rating. It appears that Firestone /Bridgestone do not know how tear wear works. First time in my life I was this disappointed in a tire company, but Firestone certainly had it's share of problems in the past. Someone needs to do an evaluation of Firestone tire rating practice. For me, it's too late. Thanks.

The sunroofs have a drain which sometimes can plug up. This car was maintained several times a year since purchase by Toyota dealer. When the drain plugged up this fall, water backed up and came down inside of the passenger compartment on top of the electrical fuses, body computer. The leak IS NOT DETECTABLE by owner or occupant. But when it manifests itself, it does so with the Blind Spot Monitor failing randomly, the seat belt warning lights might or might not work, the airbag safety system fails, sometimes the whole instrument dash acts erractic including random on/off blinking, the tire pressure monitoring system fails. All these problems can occur before owner is ever aware of the problem. Since one of the items that is getting corrosion is a fuse block - potential fire while parked in a garage or while being drive is a possibility. In an accident failure of air bags can result in a fatality. I'm an engineer, so when things started blinking on dash - I took pictures or had another occupant take pictures. I showed them to the dealer service - they didn't make the connection with corrosion on the body computer that monitors and manages all the systems including the anti-lock and rollover system. It's in for repair at dealer now, now idea on the cost - but they've said damage is extensive AND we caught it before most people encounter it. I checked and could find no Toyota Service Bulletin that warned to look for the problem, repair techs had vehicle for week trying to find problem - and it took me insisting on looking for corrosion before they found it. This should result in: 1)Toyota special service bulletin to inspect every year and verify sunroof drain not blocked. 2) read diagnostics codes of the body network computer for issues, 3)Toyota special service recall to repair damage free to customers.

Intermittent EPS warning light illuminates during highway driving with steering wheel lock-up subsequently followed by a reset of certain electrically powered items associated with but not necessarily limited to the following systems: 1. Stability Control System warning indication 2. TPMS light 3. Radio power cycles 4. Check engine light. After turning the car off and then back on again these issues clear initially, but will intermittently happen at random durations of time anywhere from an additional 1 to 3 hours of driving. I've been discussing with Toyota Customer Service, who has known issues with the 2015 Toyota Camry under NHTSA Campaign ID: 15V144000, but they are trying to tell me that it only applies to V6 and Hybrid 2015 Camry's. The steering wheel clockspring ribbon was worn down in the middle, resulting in an open circuit of the SRS. The wear is between the ribbon and inside wall of the container that houses the ribbon. It appears to be a designing flaw or manufacturing defect. The wear was discovered by tearing down the clockspring unit. Airbag light on the dashboard was lit in November 2023. Replaced the clockspring unit on 2/17/2024. Without fixing the problem, the airbag on the steering wheel does not function when needed.

To the esteemed officials of the US Department of Transportation, My name is [XXX] and I am the owner of a 2015 Toyota Camry SE. I recently had my car repaired for a completely separate issue and while I addressed a problem with the steering, my mechanic made me aware of a 2015 recall for the Electrical Power Steering electronic control unit. I had no problems with my 2015 Toyota Camry SE that does not even have 90,000 miles on it, and then I started experiencing a shutter when driving between 25 and 50mph. It feels like you are driving over rumble sticks in the roadway, or an abnormal shaking. There is no warning light illuminated on my dashboard ex: engine light. If I take my foot of the accelerator pedal the shutter/shaking would stop or if I pushed on the accelerator to go faster, it will come out of the shutter/shaking also. While I was getting an oil change at the Toyota dealership, I spoke with the Toyota customer service representative about the closed recall (T-SB-0312-17) for this issue on 2012-2014 Toyota Camry's while doing research on this issue and I was told that Toyota has no plans on doing another recall because they have fixed the problem and I would have to have the car fixed myself which could cost upwards of $3,000.00 out of pocket. Why should a customer have to pay hundreds of dollars to have their car diagnosed for a known problem based on internet forums and other Toyota complaints. The engine light is not on, so a code may not even show up. I cannot afford to pay that, and Toyota should stand by their vehicles, stop giving customers the run around and do another recall as this is a big safety issue of faulty parts which can cause a major accident if the car loses power and stalls.

The torque converted on the 2015 Camry is failing. This was a known defect on the 2012-2014 models. Toyota offered a recall on those models but not the 2015. Many other owners are also reporting a faulty torque converter on their cars. The is the exact same issue as the previous model year but Toyota is not covering the defect. This poses a major safety risk as acceleration is inconsistent and compromised while driving the vehicle. Eventually this will lead to complete transmission failure while driving the vehicle which again poses a major safety risk.

My 2015 Toyota Camry has been experiencing a shudder between the speeds of 30-40 MPH. I am now experiencing it between 50-60 MPR and it's a heavier shudder. I am learning from research that is the torque converter which was covered under warranty for Camrys made in 2012 to 2014 but NOT 2015. My car was purchased in January of 2015 so I consider this made under that recall time frame. My vehicle is starting to get worse and I don't know what will happen when it gets even worse. I have had my vehicle looked at by two mechanics who have told me this is what it is and to call Toyota about it. I am in that process right now. No warning lights have come on for this issue. This is very concerning and I am super disappointed so far seeing that Toyota has not warrantied the 2015 model year. I love my Camry minus this HUGE problem.

When traveling down the road, the car veers to the left and I must keep turning the steering wheel to the right to correct the pulling. Usually happens when the engine is cold, but is intermittent. Happens two-three time per month. I once brought to dealer while happening, but they found no issues. They kept the vehicle overnight but couldn’t repeat the problem. The steering wheel veers hard to the right and is very loose, uncontrollable, and inconsistent. In a situation that would require rapid response, this malfunction would make it dangerous because you lose the precise and responsive steering functions necessary to maneuver accurately. This has happened about six different times and seems random. It will disappear when I turn off the car. The vehicle has not been inspected for the problem. There were no warning lamps or other indicators.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING, THE STEERING WHEEL FELT LOSS, AND THE CHECK AIR PRESSURE FOR TIRES WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INSPECTS THE TIRES AND AIR WAS ADDED IN THE TIRES. ONCE THE CONTACT LEFT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DRIVING AT 45 MPH IN THE RAIN, BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER REAR TIRES SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL WHICH FAILED TO OPERATED CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH FAILED, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. ALL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISING TO THE LEFT SIDE OF HER BODY. THE LEFT FOOT SEVERELY SPRUNG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS CONTACTED AND HAD TAKEN THE CONTACT TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TREATED FOR HER INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE POLICE TO A COLLISION SHOP, WHERE THE CONTACT INSURANCE COMPANY WAS CONTACTED CAME OUT TO THE LOT AND TOWED THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER LOT WHERE AT THIS TIME WAS AWAITING RESULTS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V144000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER NOR DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,868.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, and Highlander Hybrid, and 2014-2015 Rav4 vehicles. A component of the electric power steering (EPS) electronic control unit (ECU) may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. Over time, this damage may result in failure of the electric power steering system.

Risk: An unexpected loss of power steering increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the serial number of the EPS ECU or steering column assembly. If the number is within the affected range, the EPS ECU will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on May 7, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
