2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Component/System: 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) system including the DC/DC Converter (subject of active recall D126), Battery Energy Control Module (BECM), Telematics Control Unit (TCU), Battery Charge Control Module (BCCM), and Vehicle Immobilizer Module (VIM). All components are available for inspection upon request. What happened: My 2021 Range Rover Sport HSE MHEV (VIN: [XXX] ) experienced a complete no-start condition after sitting for approximately one week. Prior to towing the vehicle to Hendrick Jaguar Land Rover Charlotte, I performed a live data diagnostic using a Land Rover specific iCarsoft LR V3 diagnostic tool which confirmed the 48V hybrid battery at 17.86% state of charge critically below the minimum threshold required to authorize a start sequence. The TCU, BCCM, and VIM all showed not fitted simultaneously a known cascade effect of a critically depleted 48V MHEV system. Recall D126 for DC/DC Converter failure was confirmed on my vehicle. The DC/DC converter manages power transfer between the 48V and 12V systems. Its failure directly caused the 48V battery depletion and subsequent cascade module failures. Safety risk: The vehicle became completely immobile with no warning. The immobilizer went offline preventing the vehicle from starting, stranding the occupant in a parking lot. A vehicle that shuts down without warning and cannot be restarted poses a serious safety risk to the driver and other road users. Additionally the DC/DC converter failure affecting the MHEV system represents a risk of sudden loss of hybrid assist during driving. We recently bought this vehicle a few weeks ago. Since we’ve had it I have been noticing a strong smell of burning engine coolant. I have looked at similar models of the 2021 Range Rover sports and they do have recalls for issues with the engine coolant system. I assume this is the same problem the phev Range Rover sport is having. Today I have a low engine coolant message pop up on the dash.

My car completely died and would not start up ending up towing it to the mechanic and he said it was the dc to dc converter and I heard this has been happening to mild hybrid Range Rovers / Sport an all electric ones too.

I took my car in for an oil change, and they noticed a faint fuel smell (Which I had noticed as well). I had them look deeper and the found a small fuel leak, requiring Part LR140080 to repair. This part is worldwide back ordered from Land Rover. When I ordered at the Range Rover dealership they noted 146 people in front of me with no ETA in sight. The representative advised that the car was not safe to drive and they have a car at the dealership that has been waiting since November? Unacceptable. How can there be no recall if this is a known issue? The dealership noted that any fuel related issue has safety implications (fire, etc) I had a check engine light on which has since gone away. The shop ran a test and noted that the car was running in "lean" mode due to this part issue. Vehicle was operating normally on interstate traffic at 70mph when vehicle suddenly flashed "Charging system fault" and the vehicle then would not accelerate and dropped to 25 mph. Trying to exit the interstate and vehicle went into limp mode and battery icon showed up. Had to be towed to Range Rover dealership Range Rover said the issue was a DC / DC converter. They replaced this and are now saying the BISG alternator is at fault. Repairs will be close to 8k without a confirmation this will be the fix. Not comfortable driving the vehicle even with the 'fix." A vehicle "Dying" on the interstate at interstate speeds is dangerous. The problem is known on the internet and by range rover. The alternator on my vehicle (DC to DC convertor) went while driving home with only one sensor prompting me to turn back around and head home to be safe. The car essentially died and power steering was lost. There were no prior warnings or indicators of an issue. I had 15 minutes to make it back home. The car died in intersection, luckily at corner of my street and folks had to help push it into the driveway. Having searched for a replacement, there are no after market options, no used options, and my mechanic was told we are customer 30,335 as THOUSANDS of owners are experiencing this very same problem. The estimate weight time for the part was 3 months, at the least. So, we are stuck with an invaluable car, sitting for three months, and forced to pay storage fees at the mechanic shop as well as keeping current on the monthly car payment.

Over the last few months my warning light for engine coolant appears and says add coolant now. I will add coolant at preferred vendor. Two weeks later my coolant light will appear again saying add coolant now. When I looked myself after that 4th occasion I saw that the coolant tank was in fact empty and my car was not experiencing a sensory or electrical issue. As far as electrical my car volume will turn up and down on its on at sporadic times. I have had a professional take a look and not one service technician mentioned that I may have a possible leak or electrical problem . They just fill my fluids. However, I am certain there is a leak since my tank is empty almost every 10-14 days and my warning light is coming on to verify. I will be going back to land rover for them to do a more thorough inspection.

leaking coolant onto the Turbocharger. My coolant light has been coming on often for the past year or so. A month after I top off coolant my Warnings light indicates low coolant. I’ve been to Land Rover Range Rover multiple times with this issue, I was told there is no issue and they top it off and tell me it’s good to go, a month later same issue. I’ve noticed there has been a recall on this matter for 2019-2021 Land Rover Ranger Rover PHEV but not on Range Rover sport 2021 even though there has been many complaints about this. I went in today and I was not talking no for an answer and finally they check and as I had suspected coolant is leaking onto turbocharger. I will attach a photo that the technician from Jaguar Land Rover Fort Lauderdale has uploaded to the Service Status Tracker link, there you will see that it is the same issue that the recall was on for Land Rover Range Rover sport PHEV vehicles Recall no. 23V221000. They have not added my specific Range Rover Sport to the recall.

I was driving the car on March 11th 2022, at around 10pm when the car suddenly lost power, while driving in a rural area of Interstate 5 in northern California when the vehicle lost power, I was unable to see anything at all and had to pull to the shoulder unsure of what was on the shoulder. Dash display stated "headlight detected" and the vehicle shut off. Everything was off including, power, lights, engine, and the vehicle was unresponsive for 30 minutes. After about 30 minutes, the car started up and I decided to drive it. Furthermore, after about 1.5 miles the issue repeated and the car shut off again. Car was off for about 5 minutes, at this point I decided not to drive the car as I felt it was dangerous. The night of March 11th, the vehicle was towed to the nearest Land Rover/Range rover dealership and was diagnosed on Monday the 14th. The dealership diagnosed the vehicle with a defective battery. The battery was replaced and I was assured that the technician was certain the issue is resolved, and they have experienced it with other Range rover sports in the past year. I picked up the vehicle on March 16, 2022. Today, March 19, 2022, while driving the vehicle around 1pm the vehicle, the dashboard displayed “headlight fault detected” and the vehicle was once again shut off, including all the electronics. I do not consider this incident to be as dangerous as it was during daylight and near my house. However, the earlier incidents were very hazardous as it occurred at night, with no vehicle lighting or street lighting in an unfamiliar area. I am not confident driving this vehicle at all, as it could lose power at any moment. Thankfully in this time, the vehicle was in a safe area, but this incident could certainly have happened in the middle of a turn, in an area with no shoulder, or in a construction zone. All of which would dramatically increase the risk of significant injury.

Incident 1 I purchase my vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover Rosenthal Chantilly VA, a new Range Rover sport( one of the top-line models of Range Rover 100K+) , and it’s just 5 months only 3000 miles. One day (Thursday, Jun 10) car suddenly stop in the middle of the road with a gearbox faulted message, I can’t move a car from the park to neutral or drive mode. The local Sheriff had to call the towing guy to move a car from the road as it was in the middle of the road. I drop the car at Worst Jaguar Land Rover Rosenthal Chantilly Dealership on the East Coast. Chantilly VA ( based on my experience). I left a car on Thursday night in heavy rain, Friday morning I call them, visited the dealership to explain the problem, show the car to a service technician. There was problem with dealership but let’s ignore that & focus on car issue. I complain to corporate range rover, I am not sure what they did but just politely communicate with me. They said that they fix the recall and do something, In car report which does not describe anything than regular inspection.. They created CASE:[8000897250 Second incident - On Jun 26, Saturday – around 2 pm issue happen again, I was driving Loudoun county parkway North, going toward Route 50 ( John mosby hwy ) from my home on Freedom street. Car stop suddenly. Same issue again.. Third Incident - On Aug 1st Sunday, 3:35 pm I was driving on route 50 E going to Fairfax VA from my home, at intersection near South riding Blvd., car stop suddenly, From drive to sudden stop with gearbox fault message. I am really in situation where I feel stress every time I drive car. Car only has 4000 mile, every month I am paying large lease amount, so I don’t drive, I am losing money every month. I really went to mental stress and harassment because of these incidents. My family was really scare sitting in the car what if it stop suddenly and someone hit from back because of sudden stop. I have video and pic taken from dashboard.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2019-2023 Range Rover Sport, 2020-2023 Range Rover, Defender, 2022-2023 Discovery, and 2023 Range Rover Velar vehicles. The engine cam carrier oil channel may be blocked, which can lead to an oil leak.

Risk: An oil leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the engine cam carrier and related components as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 29, 2023. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N763.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with 20-inch, 21-inch, or 22-inch wheels. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) recommended pressure has been set incorrectly in the instrument cluster. As a result, the TPMS warning light will not illuminate when tire pressure reaches 25% below the cold inflation pressure stated on the tire placard. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."

Risk: Drivers may unknowingly operate the vehicle with low tire pressure, possibly causing tire tread separation, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster software, free of charge. The recall began November 2, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000. Land Rover's number for this recall is N494.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with 19-inch wheels. The tire inflation pressure label and the tire placard label state the incorrect tire pressures for the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk: Failure to inflate tires to the correct pressure could lead to loss of vehicle stability and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will apply the correct labels, free of charge. The recall began October 30, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000. Land Rover's number for this recall is N491.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2021 Range Rover, 2022 Range Rover Sport, 2020-2021 Range Rover Velar, Discovery Sport, 2020-2022 Discovery, and Defender vehicles. The seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly.

Risk: An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed October 20, 2021. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N630.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with a Surround Camera System. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display or display a distorted image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display while in reverse decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rearview camera and add a new seal or replace the camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed to Range Rover owners March 4, 2024. Interim notification letters were mailed to Range Rover Sport owners March 7, 2024. Range Rover Sport owners will receive a second notice once remedy parts become available. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar and Land Rover Discovery, 2020-2023 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, 2019-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, 2020-2024 Land Rover Range Rover, 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport, 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender, 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace, and 2021-2022 Jaguar E-Pace mild-hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs.) The DC-DC converter can fail due to an internal fault in the boost control microchip. A failure of the DC-DC converter will result in a loss of 12-Volt system charging and can lead to complete loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

Risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The remedy for this recall is currently under development. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed June 17, 2026.
