2014 Hyundai Accent

This vehicle has the Hyundai 1.6L GDI engine, which has been recalled in other Hyundai models, just not the 2014 Accent. Just after passing 100,000 miles, this vehicle's check engine light came on indicating something was wrong with the camshaft timing. We brought it to a mechanic and found out the camshaft sprockets on the exhaust are faulty and it requires a new timing chain as well. If these repairs were not done, the engine would seize up and fail. The repair is estimated to cost $2,800, but this issue is the same as on other 1.6L GDI engines that have been recalled and either replaced or rebuilt. We would like this vehicle added to Hyundai's recall of the 1.6L GDI engines and our money for this repair to be reimbursed.

When driving my 2014 Hyundai Accent, the brake system completely failed and I lost all ability to stop the vehicle. I was able to stop the car by downshifting to a lower gear and use the emergency handbrake. I was able to avoid other vehicles and no accident occurred. The vehicle was towed to a Hyundai dealer and determined the brake lines corroded and fluid loss caused loss of braking. No warning lamps indicated an issue and no loss of brake fluid was seen prior to the incident.

Driving on city & highway, driver side selt belt will release itself multiple times. On a daily drive to work 12 miles at least 2-3 times! I was entering highway on entrance ramp there was a loud pop and I could see plumes of smoke coming from under the car, so I turned the ignition off on the car and pulled over to the shoulder, the brakes failed so I had to let it coast to a stop. Then I waited until I could safely exit the vehicle and did so quickly. I had the vehicle towed to a local shop, and they told me I should report it. There was no warning that it was about to happen and yes its available for inspection still sitting at the shop I had it towed to. They also said I should have it towed to the manufacturer service center but this is my first time dealing with anything like this so Im unsure what to do. I did do a cursory inspection under the hood with a mechanic from the shop and there was a burnt wire and a bunch of what looked like oil down at the bottom of the engine, but the oil was still full so I dont think it was oil.

There have been 2 recalls in which this vehicle was serviced for within the past year- 1 for undercoating 2 for leaking brake fluid fuse. Neither time were my brake lines inspected for any damage. One month after the fuse was replaced, my brakes went out with the dealership saying the lines were rusted through. Now, we are stuck without a vehicle because there are no brake lines available for this vehicle, everything is on back order with no eta. Had either time this car was serviced for these band aid recalls been looked at, we would not be in the situation we are now. No vehicle, no parts available, a dealership completely unwilling to work with us. Research was done and every vehicle in the 2014 Hyundai class except for the Accents were recalled in Canada for brake lines rusting out after undercoating in Canada. This needs to be looked into because as it stands, our estimate is $2600 to fix an issue that should had been better addressed with these recalls. We were driving back from an outing with our grandchildren when the brakes went completely out with no warning. The brake light did not come when the brakes failed. By the Grace of God we were able to get this car to a Hyundai dealership where it sits today due to poor communication on their part, no parts, and complete frustration on our end.

After seeing a mechanic the problem was a rod bearing connector failure which caused metal shavings to clog and restrict the oil flow, starting as a small knock and quickly turned into a loud horrible knock, power failure and ultimately my engine to seize. the same engine as the 2015-2016 Velosters recall, a 1.6L gamma gdi engine, the same exact issues and problems accrued and caused that’s specific model to recall, but I believe that many more models with this specific engine are faulty due to the same problem.

ABS system malfunctioned in the following manner. ABS sensor displayed. Brakes pedal must be depressed to the floorboard in order to "try" to stop. The emergency "e brake" will not engage & is non-functioning. Contacted Hyundai Headquarters for recall resolution as this issue could harm/kill my child &/or others. The car is unsafe to be driven. Hyundai resolution rep made an appt for at a local dealership. The dealership stated they would repair the car regardless of the recall, but I would have to pay & have Hyundai "try" to reimburse me as they do not have a "fix" for the recall as it could supposedly start a fire &/or lose braking system. Question? How can you repair a vehicle due to recall failure, yet NOT have a "fix" for the recall? Something not adding up. Start of incident with car July 2023. I continue to have to pay for insurance and tag registrations for a car that cannot be driven safely as Hyundai states there is no "fix" as of yet. Due to fire risk the car must be parked outside to endure weather elements which deteriorates the vehicle.

On 02/18/2023 at approximately 5pm, my family was driving on the highway, when unexpectedly, my check engine starts flashing and there is a noticeable decrease in acceleration and my vehicle feels rough/jerking as I head to the nearest exit. My spouse checks the vehicle and believes it is a spark plug/coil issue and we head to the nearest auto parts. The store rep is able to confirm engine misfire on all 4 cylinders, which does seem to indicate that spark plugs/coils should be replaced. We replace the plugs and coils, yet the replacement does not correct the problem. On 02/21/2023, I am able to have a certified mechanic diagnose my vehicle and he performs a compression test and confirms that 3 cylinders are at slightly lower PSI, and the 4th is at 0 PSI. Unknown to me, this means my engine needs to be replaced. The mechanic provides additional information that there are known issues with Hyundai engines and recommends I contact dealer, as he has also had a number of Hyundai owners with the same issue. I did further research and I discovered that my specific vehicle is not included in any current recalls. Yet I also discovered that there is an open Class Action lawsuit to expand the recall, which appears to include the engine in my vehicle. I did contact the Hyundai consumer affairs on 02/21/2023 and I am directed to contact my nearest Hyundai service center. I contacted the Hyundai dealership in Auburn, WA yet after my initial contact the representative fails to return my messages or follow-up. As this appears to be an ongoing issue with certain Hyundai vehicles, I want to make sure that there is a record of this incident for your review. The one ongoing issue I can confirm is that my vehicle appeared to burn oil. Although, it was inconvenient, I was able to get top offs at Jiffy Lube.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a knocking and ticking noise coming from the engine compartment with the check engine warning light constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine lifters were faulty, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the request for assistance was denied. The failure mileage was 155,000.

The seatbelt unbuckles on its own when driving. It is happening each time my husband or I drive the vehicle. I’m concerned that the seatbelt will unbuckle in case of a collision. I’ve been looking online, and the 2014 Hyundai Accent does not have any reported issues with the seatbelt that I can find. I have not yet taken the vehicle for inspection, but I’m not sure what to do next. No lamps are lighting up to indicate this problem. It just happens randomly at any speed.

Due to a premature engine failure in my 2014 Hyundai Accent, I was prompted that I needed to swap out my engine by Hyundai. I had my engine replaced by a licensed mechanic and we used the same engine recommended by Hyundai. The donor engine came from VIN # [XXX]. The engine was properly installed into my Hyundai Accent in September of 2021. I only put 5,000ish miles on the car and I started hearing a weird sound from my car. I got it checked by 6 different mechanics and they told me the noise that I was hearing is coming from a bad rod bearing. One of the mechanics prompted me to look into recalls for that engine. Low and behold... there is a recall for this engine for the same exact issue I am experiencing!! I looked up the VIN for the engine on Hyundai's website and it is Service Campaign 966. I took my vehicle to Hyundai and filed a claim, but they did not want to do anything for me since I don't have the original car. It bothered me though because even if I did have the original car, they did not seem like they wanted to fix the issue at hand. I kept getting the run around from them without any path forward. My car has been in this situation since March of 2022. The Key of Manchester Hyundai wants me to do another engine swap for $7,000 dollars or to lease a vehicle from them. I have been in a very dismal situation and I don't know what to do or who to turn to. I was at risk when I got the vehicle to them and they allowed me to drive away without even batting an eye. Las luz de ABS comenzó a verse encendida en el Dashboard en ocasiones la de ABS junto a la de Emergencia. Lleve el auto a inspeccionar en el diagnostico resultó que el problema posiblemente podría estar en el HECU. Me indican que lo llevara en esos días porque al ser algo complejo tomaria tiempo asi verificar con exactitud que era lo que estaba haciendo que me encendieran las luces para entonces ser remplazado. Antes de poder llegar el dia para poder verificarlo salgo a hacer una diligencia y al regresar a mi casa se encienden las luces nuevamente seguido por un ruido al presionar el pedal de frenos. Me estaciono frente a mi casa al rato salgo a buscar el papel del diagnostico que me habían dado que lo había dejado guardado en la víscera del carro y me percato que se escuchaba algo encendido aún ya con el carro apagado. Procedo a abrir la cajuela y me percato que esa pieza de HECU seguía encendida y sonando. Se procede a quitarle los poros de la batería para que apagara, cuando hace una chispa eléctrica seguido por fuego. Poniendo la vida de mi hija, de mi mamá y mía en peligro. Actúe rápidamente ya que vivo en un apartamento busqué el extintor de fuegos que me proveen y procedo a apagarlo. Luego de apagado el fuego encontramos una tapa que entiendo que es de el modulo de ABS (envie foto de la misma). La experiencia fue horrible pues esto me pudo haber pasado en la calle y pudo ser un incidente desgraciado ocacionando perdida de vidas y perdida total de mi auto. El percance ocurrió bien tarde en la noche que pude haberme acostado a dormir y levantarme cuando escuchara el carro explotar, gracias a Dios regresé al auto a buscar el papel y no paso a mayores.

The Hyundai accents from 2007-2015 seem like they are all experiencing the same electrical issue from the reviews I’ve seen on Google. The car literally shuts off while you are driving and the problem can’t be fixed. That is very dangerous to be driving and out of nowhere the car Dash board lights come on and the car shuts off. I recently had multiple repairs done on my vehicle and none of the repairs corrected the problem.

My son was in an accident he rear ended his friends car going about 30 mph. The car is totaled and the air bag never went off! He can’t remember if he hit his head or not he said he blacked out for a few mins. He sustained neck and back injuries and a concussion. He was wearing his seatbelt. None of the airbags went off

engine stalled had vehicle towed to n checked at local mechanic shop, no problem found. engine starts n runs fine. last week oil pressure light flashed on/off 1 time. engine oil was full.engine started to have a small vibration. Engine noise now being heard.Engine light flashed again yesterday(engine oil checked full). engine noise is louder now n loss of power detected. this vehicle had no problems before this incident started. vehicle is now unable to be driven due to loss of power and engine noise.I have since found there is a recall on similar vehicles for bad bearings. this vehicle has the same issues as reported in said recall. I feel this vehicle should be included in this recall.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

Risk: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.
