2019 Honda Civic

The biggest concern that I have is what I have learned is referred to as “Sticky steering” when I'm driving especially 55mph. It's almost like it catches or hangs up on something before making a small correction. The with the steering wheel doesn't settle back in the center of the lane as it should. It tends to drift toward the left side. I try and correct it but it's a constant back and forth fighting the steering wheel just to stay in my lane. I'm afraid not only is it seriously dangerous but it may appear as if I am driving erratically. It seems to be getting progressively worse. I must always have both hands on the wheel constantly making corrections just to keep the car within the lane I am in. On the same subject I have noticed is that there is a popping or clicking noise whenever I try and correct it or turn the wheel especially towards the right. I've searched for any recalls and discovered that it is a consistent issue with newer models. What I don't understand is why Honda hasn't addressed this if the problem is serious enough to issue a recall in the 2022 and 2023 civics why would they not investigate the same issues in earlier models such as my 2019. This is not just a inconvenience it is a major safety concern. I hope Honda will take this seriously before someone gets hurt.

My 2019 Honda Civic has been driven for only 35, 775 miles. The steering has become "sticky" or "notchy" and poses a safety risk since it seems to get stuck particularly when making left turns. The dealership's service center has diagnosed the problem as internal failure of the rack steering gearbox causing binding and stickiness in the steering feel. No warning messages were indicated. The problem was first noticed in late 2025. There have been numerous steering complaints reported by other 2019 Honda Civic owners, yet Honda has not issued a recall for this year and model. I have contacted the Honda Customer Service Center about this issue. I have been assigned a case manager and am waiting for a response to my request for compensation.

The Honda Sensing automated system suffered a phantom activation. It threw a visual brake warning, violently applied the brakes, and jerked the steering wheel causing a collision impact to other vehicles. The component ive seen fail on multiple 2018, 2019, 2020, honda civics is the rear camera allows water into the camera lens area. And it becomes permanently foggy but the lens its self does fail. In cool weather, below 70 degrees F, steering is responsive. Above 70 degrees F, there is a sticking in the steering wheel. If I turn the wheel to the left and attempt to straighten the wheel again, it sticks and releases with a pop/jerking. This is the same exact issue in NHTSA Campaign 24V-744 for 11th generation Honda Civics. While the root cause of the 11th-gen Civic issue was attributed to a bad manufacturing run from their supplier (Hitachi Astemo), the resulting physical behavior—a steering rack that binds up in temperatures above 70°F and requires manual force to "pop" free—presents the exact same highway safety hazard in my 10th-generation vehicle. This is concerning and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive as steering is unpredictable.

Honda has a current recall on eralier models of Honda Civics for sticking of steering wheel. Mine involves when I turn it to the left my steering wheel sticks. Particularly at speeds above 40mph, steering has a tendency to stick so that in order to drive straight one has to dramatically and repeatedly overcorrect course by turning slightly left then slightly right then slightly left, etc. The safety impacts are obvious: rather than responding precisely and fluidly to the driver's directions, it responds approximately and encourages the application of greater force in the process of steering, causing the vehicle to rapidly alter course and to require course-correction. The vehicle has a steering issue where the steering wheel sticks and requires extra force to correct or adjust while driving. The issue continued and the vehicle was inspected again by the authorized Honda dealership on May 18, 2026. The failed component appears to be the EPS steering rack / steering gearbox. The component should be available for inspection upon request. The issue creates a safety concern because the steering can stick while driving and requires additional effort to make steering corrections. This could affect the driver’s ability to maintain lane position or respond quickly during normal driving, highway driving, turning, or evasive maneuvers. The issue was confirmed by an authorized Honda dealership during the May 18, 2026 inspection. The dealership test drove the vehicle, verified the steering concern, and documented that the steering rack is binding and sticking and requires replacement. The vehicle had approximately 50,137 miles at the time of that inspection. The vehicle was also reviewed through the manufacturer’s goodwill process, and the manufacturer offered only partial goodwill assistance toward the steering rack replacement. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages related to the steering issue. The cause of failure is unknown.

Honda ¨sticky steering ¨ EPS power steering is catching or stuck momentarily while driving straight on highway. This is a 2019 HONDA Civic LX Sedan that is experiencing the same symptoms as a similar recall that was issued for newer models in 2022 and 2023. I am reporting a serious ongoing issue with my 2019 Honda Civic Sport involving the trunk repeatedly opening on its own both while driving and while parked. The issue is also causing the vehicle alarm to activate unexpectedly. The trunk has opened while the vehicle was in motion, creating a major safety concern. It also randomly opens while parked, sometimes triggering the alarm system for no apparent reason. The rear window shattered while driving. I had turned on my rear window defroster to help clear the window of fog. Several minutes later there was a loud pop, and I saw a hole in the lower left corner of the window under the spoiler, and the rest of the glass was cracked. I have had multiple problems with the AC on my 2019 Honda Civic now for some years. There have been leaks, issues of blowing hot air, replacing of parts, etc. The evaporator was replaced before (warranty extension) and then eventually the Freon 1234 leaked out. I've been told the expansion valve was leaking by one shop, and another tells me the evaporator core has a leak. The dealer wants $2,800 to replace the evap core and recharge the system. This is all maddening. I'm asking if the compressor shaft seals are OK (they say they are, but who knows for how long) per the Honda warranty extension issued. I used to have a 2006 civic and the AC worked FLAWLESSLY for 16 years! What's up here?????

I am filing a safety complaint regarding an unresolved fuel pump recall on my 2019 Honda Civic. My vehicle became inoperable around October 2025 after passing Pennsylvania state inspection in July 2025. The vehicle is currently not drivable and remains inoperable. A VIN-based recall check confirms an active, unrepaired safety recall related to the fuel pump module (2016–2021 Honda Civic fuel pump impeller defect). This recall warns of potential engine stall or failure to start, increasing crash risk. The air conditioning system in my 2019 Honda Civic has experienced a total failure of the evaporator core due to a refrigerant leak. This follows previous documented failures of the AC condenser and compressor shaft seal, both of which are currently under Honda-issued 10-year warranty extensions. Various other users have also reported these issues with their 10th generation civics. The failure of the AC system prevents the defroster from effectively dehumidifying the cabin. During rain or high-humidity conditions, the interior of the windshield fogs up rapidly and cannot be cleared, severely obstructing my field of vision while driving. In high-temperature environments, the cabin temperatures reach dangerous levels within minutes. This poses a significant health risk for passengers, particularly children and the elderly, and causes driver fatigue/distraction due to heat exhaustion. Despite multiple repairs to other components in this specific R1234yf system, the system continues to fail. Honda has diagnosed a leaking evaporator core, a part known within the owner community to have the same manufacturing defects as the already-warrantied condenser and compressor. I am requesting an investigation into why the evaporator core was excluded from the current 10-year warranty extensions despite having the same failure mode as the condenser and compressor parts.

I got this car 2 months ago and it has 58k miles. The steering is “sticky” and keeps clicking and catching when making small adjustments or turning. The open recall repair (NHTSA 23V-858) has not been completed. Additionally, there is a separate open recall, NHTSA Recall Number 25E-071 (Manufacturer Recall MMZ), involving 18-inch Honda Genuine Accessory wheels with improperly installed lug seat inserts. Both recalls remain unresolved. Beginning in approximately 2024, the vehicle exhibited intermittent jerking and stalling during acceleration, along with loss of smooth power delivery. No warning lamps were illuminated prior to failure. The vehicle was inspected in July 2025 after Wilkes-Barre Honda declined to provide assistance, and it passed inspection at that time. In October 2025, the engine failed to start, and the vehicle became fully non-operational. The insurance carrier was notified in October 2025 that the vehicle had become inoperable. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, law enforcement, or the insurance company. It is currently available for inspection but is not safely drivable. Loss of power while driving presents a risk of collision. Multiple attempts were made to schedule an appointment with Wilkes-Barre Honda regarding the outstanding recall; however, no response was received. The manufacturer was also contacted on several occasions, but no meaningful assistance was provided. Despite repeated requests, the dealership has not conducted a formal inspection or confirmed the cause of the failure. The vehicle has remained inoperable for several months. Under these circumstances, asking me to arrange towing is not reasonable, as delays in addressing recalls have created additional practical barriers to accessing necessary transportation and resources. *Note: I've included a phone number for this complaint but do not have one. A couple of months or so ago...summertime maybe I started feeling a choppy feeling in the steering almost like lane correction was enable but it wasn't. I started seeing posting about sticky steering and that's what it feels like. It's mostly noticeable out on the highway but sometimes on 40 mph zones. I've emailed the dealer about it to see if it can be covered. Mine is a 2019 so it's not included in the recall for 2022-2024. I really hope I don't have to pay for this out of pocket.

While the vehicle is powered on, rapid or quick input to the steering wheel will cause sudden loss of power. The electrical system and engine will power off. I am experiencing issues with my infotainment screen and my window switches as a result of continued power loss. I am able to reproduce the problem any time I turn the steering wheel quickly. The vehicle has gone in for its state mandatory inspection at the dealer, but not for the steering. There is no warning light prior to the sudden power loss, but my car's electrical system has to re-initialize. The battery is brand new and does not show signs of low voltage while idle. The vehicle will power off while driving, reversing and in neutral.

Immediately after closing the trunk, the trunk lid torsion bar snapped. The trunk lid will no longer stay up and is very heavy to open. If this had happened when the trunk was open, it could have broken my neck. Honda is aware of this issue in vehicles from 2016-2020. There is a technical service bulletin (22-013) but no recall. I feel this is a physical safety hazard to anyone who owns these cars.

Noticed when braking, car veered to the right. The day before I dropped it off to the dealership to have it checked, the brakes felt weird a bit hard, and suddenly would not brake for few seconds (functioned again after) as I was approaching a roundabout. I dropped it off to the dealership and they confirmed an issue with the ABS Modulator. I am currently waiting for parts for it.

The AC evaporator broke and only the AC condenser and sealer are under extended warranty. The AC evaporator is a costly repair and several other Honda owners have noted it has failed. Without the AC evaporator functioning, the AC system does not work.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to file a complaint regarding an unresolved recall issue for my vehicle. Although the manufacturer’s service center has completed the recall repair, the repair has not been updated in the NHTSA system, and the vehicle still shows an open recall. This unresolved status is creating serious issues: The car cannot pass Vehicle Safety Systems (VSS) inspection. Registration cannot be completed for the buyer. The bank is holding funds from the sale until the recall is officially cleared. I have contacted both Honda corporate and the servicing dealership several times, but despite their assurances, the recall remains uncleared in the system. I had gotten a new battery because one point after work, my car would not start. I then got installed a brand new battery, and it still wouldn’t turn on. The only things that turned on were the dashboard, but no noise coming from the front engine compartment. I tried turning it on after, but it wouldn’t start at all. I then got it towed to an auto shop and they installed a new starter. The new starter worked for a month before another incident in a Walmart parking lot where it would not start after turning the key multiple times. After a few times it started and I drove it again to the same auto shop. The auto shop had no trouble starting it, they turned it on and off several times without any fault. That was in July of 2025. Fast forward a few weeks later, there was two instances in which the car did the same thing, the engine was not turning on only the front dashboard lights. After the first try it turned on. Now on 8/22/2025 as I was driving on the highway going 75mph the car stopped decelerating. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing. It stopped completely, thankfully I was able to stop on the side of the highway but it was still a very dangerous situation had it been another time during the day. This time, the engine compartment, once the key was turned was simply making a noise but not starting or “turning over”. I lifted up the hood and noticed that when the key was inserted the engine compartment was shaking. I got it towed to the same auto shop awaiting the results. I looked up the symptoms for a faulty fuel state and my car is showing to have a lot of the same as it would be that.
