I received the engine maintenance required notification on 7/11. On 7/13, I called my Toyota to make an appt to bring it in at 9 AM. The ran diagnostics for $180 and then the test results said the engine coolant valve is stuck open or closed but either is dangerous because my car could overheat. This is a $850 repair. It sounds like this same part was used on another Toyota suv and the warranty was extended for those so this part needs to be recalled or warranty extended for the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross as well. I was waiting for this repair to be done for 5 hours total.

While driving at highway speeds 65mph in HOV lane (wall was to driver side), the back driver side window exploded. There was no external objects on the road that could explain the damage. No scratches or other body damage to suggest something was kicked up or impacted it. The window spontaneously exploded sending shards of glass inside the back of the vehicle. Upon inspection of the back inside of the vehicle there is no foreign objects to explain the explosion. The windows were not down or cracked, temperature outside was 83F with no winds or other weather. This is a hazard especially to back passengers and god forbid drivers. Please take this account to make Toyota fix this issue, it’s unsafe.

VEHICLE: 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross L FWD MILEAGE: 40,000 miles DATE OF FAILURE: [Insert date] DEFECT DESCRIPTION: My vehicle's coolant bypass valve (part #16671-F2010) has failed, causing coolant leaks and triggering error codes. An independent shop diagnosed the issue as a defective coolant bypass valve before I took it to the Toyota dealership for confirmation. SAFETY CONCERN: This is a known defect affecting multiple Toyota models from 2019-2023. Coolant bypass valve failures can lead to engine overheating, potential engine damage, and loss of vehicle control if the engine fails while driving. This creates a serious safety hazard. MANUFACTURER RESPONSE: Toyota issued Customer Support Program 24TE04 covering this exact defect for 2020-2021 Corollas and certain RAV4 models. However, they arbitrarily excluded 2022-2023 Corolla Cross vehicles despite using THE IDENTICAL DEFECTIVE PART (F0010 coolant bypass valve) in all gas models through early 2024. Toyota dealership charged me $99 for a diagnostic to confirm what was already known. The repair quote was nearly $1,000. Toyota Corporate denied goodwill assistance, stating they only provide it to "loyal customers" who have spent significant money on servicing or own multiple Toyotas. CONSUMER IMPACT: This is the same defect that led to the class action lawsuit Barrientos v. Toyota. Toyota settled privately and created CSP 24TE04, but deliberately excluded newer model years with the same defective part. Consumers with 2022-2023 vehicles are forced to pay $900-1,300 out-of-pocket for a manufacturing defect that Toyota has already acknowledged in other model years. REQUESTED ACTION: I am requesting NHTSA investigate why Toyota's Customer Support Program excludes 2022-2023 model years when they contain the identical defective coolant bypass valve. Toyota should be required to extend CSP 24TE04 to cover ALL vehicles with part #16671-F2010 or F0010, regardless of model year.

I was involved in a frontal collision in which I rear-ended another vehicle. The impact was significant enough to cause a fractured sternum due to the seat belt restraint. However, the front airbags did not deploy. I had a passenger in the vehicle, and we were both wearing our seatbelts at the time of the crash. I am concerned that the airbags failed to deploy despite the severity of the impact and the resulting injury. I believe this may indicate a defect in the airbag system or the airbag control unit (ACU). I am submitting this report to ensure the issue is investigated and to help prevent potential harm to other drivers. After the collision the car was not drivable due to an airbag error message on the dash of the vehicle. It had to be towed away from the scene and will not be repaired. Injury: Yes — fractured sternum Medical Attention Received: Yes — X-Ray and CT Scan indicate a fracture to the upper sternum Police Report Filed: No Crash Photos or Documentation Available: Yes - insurance company has them

under normal driving conditions on a state highway the Engine Malfunction error displayed on my Multi-Information Display. The error indicated that I find a dealership and have the car inspected. The error would go off then come back during acceleration. after two days at the local Toyota Dealership I was told the Coolant Bypass Valve was stuck in the closed position and it would have caused stalling during acceleration and engine overheating at normal speeds. the dealership replaced the valve and flushed the 100K coolant at my expense of over $800. The issue reappeared moments after I took delivery of the repaired vehicle as I was accelerating onto the highway from their parking lot. this is a well known issue that affects 2019-2023 Camry and RAv4 models and I believe the 2022 Corolla Cross has the same defective part in its engine (all engines come from Japan) no matter where the vehicle is assembled.

It was around 7pm. It was raining & wipers were on. Auto stop/start setting is on. I was at a stop light waiting to turn left. The light turns green and I try to go, but the engine stalled. I was unable to move forward into the lane, and turn the wheel. A sign on the dashboard showed up saying "engine stopped, steering power low". I try to the turn the wheel and was unable to, I tried to turn off the engine and the car shuts off. I turn the key again to start the car but it wasn't starting. It was about 3 min until the car engine throttles on and I pull over to the left into the parking lot. It was really scary. I managed to get home, which was less than a mile away. Grateful I got home. My safety was at risk at a busy and rainy intersection. Many cars went around me.

I had this issue 2 times so far, and I thought I was crazy since it hasn't happened since, but I noticed another report of someone else having the exact same issue. This prompted me to include my own report, as this could be a fatal flaw that needs review immediately. While I was pulling out into traffic from a stop sign to cross multiple lanes, my engine on my 2022 Corolla Cross XLE shut off without any warning. I was stopped at the stop sign, which the engine shut off as it's designed to. Upon releasing the brake, the engine started and I accelerated to cross the lanes to get into the left turning lane. As I accelerated, the engine shut off without any intervention from my part. There were no warnings on the dash, beeps, or error messages. I pressed the accelerator multiple times without any propulsion as traffic to my left was approaching me. Thankfully they slowed down seeing me "stopped" in the middle of the road. After a few seconds of being dead in the water, the engine kicked back on and I was able to accelerate again. The same thing happened at another time that was nearly identical to this situation. I do not remember the exact date of the occurrence, but I believe it was in April of 2023 and the second occurrence was a about a month later. Since then, I have not had this exact issue happen. Although, I have pulled into traffic and had the accelerator not react quickly, which caused me to "crawl forward" at a slow speed, even if I floored the pedal. This issue has happen many times, around 8, since I purchases the car in January of 2023.

On [XXX] at [XXX], my 2022 Corolla Cross popped up with the message “Engine Maintence Required Visit Your Dealer.” I sat on the phone with Toyota for an hour and a half scheduling and asking for help. I got my car in July of 2024, I only had driven my car for a MONTH when this happened. It was a certified GOLD used toyota vehicle. I went to Lia Toyota of Northampton at 9:00am for my appointment and they could not get me a diagnosis until Monday morning. I drove 100 miles across the state to Ira Toyota of Danvers to get my car looked at. I was in the waiting room for six hours waiting to hear updates— I didn’t get one until two and a half hours of waiting. They said it was a COOLANT BIPASS VALVE issue. And it was a serious one. This was a SERIOUS danger to me and my car. I had to drive 100 MILES to get it fixed. HOWEVER: to get this fixed I missed 6 HOURS of Work, totalling to 195.96 dollars in MISSED payroll. I also had to take TWO HOURS (another 65.32) to get my car fixed. I also spent half a tank of gas to get there (20 dollars). I also missed CLASS on Friday to go to and from my appointment (1.5 hours of missed classes/work). I had a LOT of emotional strain during this. I was ping ponged across the state and told very scary stuff. I am absolutely appalled by this and I want to make sure my voice is heard. I have a 2022 Corolla Cross XLE. There have been multiple occurrences where I will be stopped waiting to cross traffic. As I go to accelerate forward quickly, the vehicle begins to move and then the vehicle stops like it has lost power but the vehicle is still turned on without any warning lights or anything. You attempt to floor the gas pedal to get the vehicle to move to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic and there is no response for about 5 or so seconds until finally the engine kicks back on. I have been almost hit multiple times from this happening. Toyota claims they can't get the issue to replicate and therefore there isn't anything they can do. There are multiple forums of people having this same issue. This is a potential fatal issue and something needs to be done to get these vehicles off the road.

When I stepped out the car, the engine was still running but it sounded loud like a lawnmower. I went back into the car and turned it back on. Several lights and system malfunction messages displayed on dashboard. I turned off the car and everything inside shut off. When I stepped out the car, the engine was still on, sounded like a lawn mower, and caught on fire. Estimator from my insurance couldn't identify the issue and had car taken to dealership services. I contacted Toyota corporate who claimed they would send an investigator, but he never came. Dealership replaced engine and engine harnesses that burned, and discharged car to me on 12/05/23. 2. 01/09/24 while driving on the highway at 65 mph, my engine shut off and steering wheel locked. I had a difficult time getting into the left shoulder to safety. Several system malfunction msgs displayed on dashboard. Car was towed to dealership services that evening. I had an appt for 8:15AM the next day. Servicer from Toyota dealership called me at 8:34 AM and told me to come pick up my car because they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I refused and explained the dangerous situation. Master mechanic ran more tests and couldn't find the issue so discharged the car back as is on 1/13/24. 3. 2/5/24, driving on highway at 65 mph, engine shuts off and steering wheel locked. I had a difficult time getting into the right shoulder to safety again. Several system malfunctions displayed on dashboard. Car was towed to dealership services. Servicer from Toyota calls again and tells me to pick up vehicle. They said they didn't find any issues with car. I begged them to run more tests. 2/14/24 They found "starter" part to be defected. Starter replaced and car discharged on 2/27/24. 4. 2/28/24 Driving on highway again, system malfunction msgs displayed. Car now in dealership. 4.

While driving the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross on the highway, my car’s dashboard indicated a warning stating “12-Volt Battery Charging; System Malfunction Stop in a Safe Place; See Owner’s Manual.” I immediately got off the highway and called Toyota Roadside Assistance to get the car towed to the dealership. I was informed the following day, the Corolla Cross is not putting out enough battery to its alternator, and causing the car to not be safe to drive. To this date, the car is still in the dealership after 70+ days and I have logged a formal complaint with Toyota directly. The service person at the dealership informed there were additional Corolla Crosses at the dealership who has experienced this issue and awaiting solution/parts too. I decided to contact NHTSA when I heard the problem was not just my vehicle but could potentially be a larger issue with this model of cars.

Dashboard lights are on but couldn’t start the car. After two minutes and fourth attempt it did start. The third repair toyota mentioned they couldn’t duplicate the concern and my car is working fine till this happened. They don’t want to admit there’s something wrong because every time I bring it to them it’s working. So they keep telling me that they couldn’t find any problem. It’s really dangerous that engine suddenly stopped. First attemp they replace the battery then they did dcm reset third one they said they couldn’t duplicate , so I brought where I got my car and same explanation. They couldn’t duplicate so they send it back to me. Very unsafe.

I am writing to complain about a serious safety defect in my 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross (VIN [XXX] ). On August 11, 2023, I recently received a letter from Toyota stating that the passenger airbag in my car may not deploy as designed in the event of a crash. This is a serious safety defect, and I am concerned about the safety of my car. I have owned my Corolla Cross for in excess of a year, and I have never been in an accident. However, I am a father with two young children, and I use my car every day to take them to school and activities. I am worried about the possibility of being in a car accident, and I do not want my children to be injured because of a defect in my car. I understand that Toyota is offering to fix the airbag for free. However, I am not comfortable with having a car that has a known safety defect. I would like to request that Toyota recall my car and replace it with a new car. I believe that I am entitled to a new car, because it is not my fault that my car has a safety defect. I am a loyal Toyota customer, and I have always been satisfied with my Toyota vehicles. However, I am disappointed that Toyota has not recalled my car to fix this safety defect. I hope that the NHTSA will investigate this matter and take action to ensure that Toyota recalls my car and replaces it with a new car. Thank you for your time and consideration. My SUV has been jerking really bad when I accelerate it almost feels like whiplash. Every time I take it to the dealer they tell me there's nothing wrong with it. It makes this knocking sound coming from the engine and when I accelerate it doesn't pick up speed.

My brand new 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross has 2 issues: 1) The 'pre-collision' feature brakes when I don't need it to. I told Toyota that I've almost got into car accidents but they said they 'can't turn it off'. 2) There is paint peeling from my front bumper for no reason. Brian Kessler at Marietta Toyota said “it's likely because when I ordered my car in 'white', the bumper was black, so they painted it without primer”. They keep telling me that "they'll call me regarding this issue", but they haven't. This vehicle's pre-collision system is over-sensitive as it continues to attempt to prevent an accident by taking control of the vehicle when I don't need/want it to. It suddenly brakes when I need to continue in motion to avoid a particular hazard, potentially causing an accident. I’ve been driving for 30+ years, and I have an impeccable driving record, so I don’t need my car to ‘think’ for me and take control of the vehicle. The service department at Marietta Toyota told me to contact Toyota.com to have them give me a ‘waiver’ with Toyota, stating that if I am involved in a motor vehicle accident as a result of this feature, then Toyota will be responsible. I spoke with at least 3 Toyota representatives at your Brand Engagement center, and was told that this feature cannot be removed, nor is there any ‘waiver’ form. Then they told me that since there is nothing 'wrong' with the car, there is nothing they can do. The last representative I spoke to told me that my complaint has been recorded and is on my ‘Toyota file’. He agreed to email me a copy of my complaint and the case number attached to my record, but I never received an email from him. I can't get them to return my calls, and I'm tired of driving to and from the service department just for them to tell me that they'll 'call me', when they have not. I am beyond angry as my issues regarding this vehicle are not resolved, and I feel betrayed by a company that has falsely gained my trust, and then destroyed it

I was stopped at a red light in a very light rain with intermittent wipers going. Engine stopped as it does when stopped. When light turned green and I pressed the gas, nothing happened. Car rolled forward but due to grade not engine. Display message said something like Engine stopped. Press brake firmly. That’s all I remember. There was a car behind me honking loudly and frequently. I sat there for a minute or two trying to get the engine going again. Y moving the shifter. I was able to take the car in and out of park multiple times, which I should not have been able to do if the engine was off, so the engine was not off. I think I must have finally hit the engine start switch but I don’t remember how many time. Once the engine started again the car without further problem.

We came to a complete stop and the engine turned off completely. We got a message that said “power steering is low.” Input the car in park and had to restart the car. This happened twice that day. I believe intermittent wipers were on. I believe this is the same issue flagged here by multiple individuals in this Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/comments/t7rv4b?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=4

Vehicle message flashes up: "Voltage abnormality Steering Power Low" and car shuts off entirely while driving!!!! A quick Google yields scores of other people experiencing the same problem, many of them bringing in the car to the dealership with no fix made! Only 5,000 miles on the car! Vehicle has been brought back to dealership after being towed home.

I was on my way back home from work. I stopped at a red light, when my car suddenly shut off and started making a noise and then the monitor said: engine failure and power steering low. I could not move the steering wheel. Everyone was honking at me because I was in the middle of the road with the car shut off. I put the car on parking and then I was able to turn it on again. It is concerning that the car shut off. This is clearly a safety problem with The Toyota Corolla Cross. The dealership seems to not want to deal with the problem. Other owners of Toyota Corolla Cross have had the same issue. I believe there should be a recall.

Exterior LightingOct 2022 · ODI 11491339Details +

I am concerned with the visibility of my car in the night/dark. When driving my car in the night I get flashed by divers behind me. I am almost completely sure it is because the rear lights are so small and dim. This car was not available for a test drive and often isn’t so how is a potential buyer to know of this issue unless it is pointed out? All of the demonstration videos are of the highest model which comes with the adequate lighting. The only way to have an adequately visible Corolla Cross (from behind) is to upgrade to the highest model. I worry that I am at a higher risk from other drivers of being rear ended when driving at night/on dimly lit streets.

This vehicle stalls intermittently when it comes to a full stop. This problem still exists and last occurred on June 27, 2022. The vehicle has an intermittent issue (unpredictable with months, or minutes in between). Weather and road conditions have varied. Location has varied as well. Dates of occurrence are February 13, 2022; March 12, 2022 (occurred twice within a 20-minute time span); and June 27. The vehicle stalls when it comes to a full stop (on all four occasions, this has occurred at a red light). The check engine light and the power steering light come on, as well as a message on the dashboard, stating, "Engine Stopped. Steering Power Low," "Engine Stopped. Press Break Firmly to Restart," and "Press Break Firmly to Restart Engine. ----- to start." During this time, a continuous *beep* is coming from the car. Shifting to Neutral, Manual, Drive, or Reverse does not resolve the issue. Shifting to Park makes the beeping sound go away, and I have to power on the car. On all four occasions, this happens seconds before or while the light turned green on high-speed and residential multi-lane routes. I have video evidence of this issue, but that is not an allowed file format.
