The occupancy detection sensor module failed. Similar to the 2014 forester recall the module has failed and Subaru dealership wants $3300 to replace the module. The passenger airbag is off due to the sensor not working. Previous airbag recall has been resolved, but I am concerned that they are related.

My Subaru ran perfectly fine until the water pump and cooler lines got replaced after these were replaced it was tried to be driven and the car then had no idea what gear it was in drive is drive neautral is drive and reverse does not work at all paddle shifters won’t work AT oil temp light check engine light brake light flashing cruise control light all came on and the car will only go forward and it’s making some crazy shutter noises when you start it and sometimes it shuts off after it was started.

My vehicle is suffering of the exact same issue described in recall WRA-24. However, this recall only covers the model years 2020 to 2022, mine is 2014 with approximately 106,000 miles. Since the last week of December, my vehicle has been to the Fort Wayne, IN Subaru Dealership approximately 9 time for the same issue. It has cost me over $2,500 plus the fuel used for all this trips (I live over 40 miles away from the dealership). The problem is still not 100 percent fixed after they changed the seat cushion, the airbag module, the seat belt buckle sensor, and I don't know what else. The last time (a couple of weeks ago) that the car was at the dealership, they had the car for over 2 weeks. The next morning, the car did the same thing again where the red airbag warning light turns on and the passenger airbag shuts off with a passenger sitting on the seat. I've taken videos of the issue to show the dealership as they seemed doubtful of what I was explaining to them. The dealer claims they have been in contact with Subaru and they don't know what else to do. They started providing me with a loaner free of charge after the 4th visit. In summary, same issue as WRA-24, over $2,500 so far, and still not resolved.

Brand new battery dies after letting the car sit for 3-10 days. Car draws 183mAmps of power just sitting, with no key in ignition and no doors open. This high amount of current kills the battery after letting the car sit for days. Legacy models after 2015 were recalled for this issue but not other years. This is an unacceptable product defect leaving customers stranded in potential remote locations.

BOTH TIMES WERE SCARY TO ME. THERE IS SOME TYPE OF DEVICE IN TWO PLACES ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY SEEM TO BE "PLASTIC" & ARE CLOSE TO A RECTANGULAR/SQUARE SHAPE. I BELIEVE ONE HAS A MINUS SIGN ON THE LEFT & A PLUS SIGN ON THE RIGHT. I BELIEVE THEY ARE THERE IF I SHOULD DECIDE TO DRIVE IN THE MANUAL POSITION INSTEAD OF THE AUTOMATIC POSITION. EACH TIME THIS OCCURRED, THIS DEVICE SOMEHOW ENDED UP IN MY COAT OR JACKET POCKET & PREVENT'D ME FROM HAVING CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR TURN'D TOO FAR TO THE LEFT, TAKING ME OVER THE CENTER LINE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE COMING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION WHEN I BRAKED. THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED, I WAS ON THE TOP SECTION OF THE RAMP PARKING LOT WHERE I VOLUNTEER AT THE HOSPITAL. I WAS WEARING A DIFFERENT COAT THIS TIME FROM THE ONE I WORE THE FIRST TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BOTH TIMES WHEN I HAD NO CONTROL. I HAD ASK'D AT THE RACINE DEALERSHIP IF THEY COULD BE REMOVED. THE LEAD SALESMAN STATED "NO". I HAVE NOT REPORT'D THE SECOND INCIDENT TO THEM DUE TO THEIR CAVALIER ATTITUDE. THIS DEALERSHIP HAS RELOCATED TO KENOSHA, WI. I HAVE ALSO SWITCH'D TO A DIFFERENT SERVICE CENTER IN MILWAUKEE, WI. DID ERRANDS, RETURNED ABOUT 30/45 MINUTES LATER TO GET GLASSES OUT OF CENTER CONSOLE -- 7/7:15PM. THEN I LOCKED THE CAR WITH REMOTE KEY PIECE. CAR ACKNOWLEDGED WITH SOUND, LIGHTS. VEHICLE HAD A 2-5 SECONDS ACCELERATION HESITATION. TAKING OFF FROM A YIELD SIGN AND GOING ACROSS A HWY, THE CAR HAD ENOUGH POWER TO ROLL FORWARD. TRIED FLOORING THE ACCELERATOR, BUT ALSO DID NOT RESPOND TO FULL THROTTLE UNTIL AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE CAR STARTED TO SLOWLY MOVE. THE ENGINE IS ON LOW RPMS AND DOES NOT LAUNCH FORWARD AS TO INDICATE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE..... IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A FUEL DELIVERY OR THROTTLE SENSOR ISSUE. I ALSO HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH A 2013 SUBARU IMPREZA (TRADED IN THE IMPREZA THINKING IT WAS A QUIRK WITH THE CAR). SUBARU DEALER WAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE ON THE IMPREZA OR THE ON THE LEGACY. NO ERROR CODES PRESENT. I CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THE CAR (LEGACY) TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ASKED TO ATTACH ANY KIND OF DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO POSSIBLY CAPTURE VALUABLE DATA IN THE EVENT THAT THE ISSUE WAS REPRODUCED. The ball spring inside the switch may break, reducing the strength of the ignition switch. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.

Risk: The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.

Subaru of America is recalling certain model year 2014 Legacy 3.6R and Outback 3.6R and 2013 Tribeca vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through June 28, 2013 and equipped with 5-speed automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the parking rod may come loose inside the automatic transmission.

Risk: As a result of the parking rod detaching, the transmission may not be able to be moved from the "park" position preventing the vehicle from being moved or driven. Furthermore, even with the transmission shifted into the 'park' position, the parking mechanism may not engage, and the vehicle may roll away while in the "park" position, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Legacy vehicles manufactured November 26, 2008, to June 7, 2013, and 2010-2014 Outback vehicles manufactured January 9, 2009 to June 7, 2013. Due to contamination, components within the windshield wiper motor bottom cover may interfere with each other. If an obstruction, such as a buildup of snow or ice prevents the wiper arms from being able to stop in the parked position, the wiper motor may overheat and the bottom cover may melt.

Risk: If the windshield wiper motor overheats, the wipers may fail, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the wiper motor cover may melt, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the windshield wiper motor bottom cover assembly, free of charge. The recall began October 2016. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTK-71. Note: This recall supersedes recall 11V-469. All vehicles that were remedied under that campaign are affected by this campaign, and need to have their wiper motor bottom cover replaced again.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2010-2014 Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles equipped with a manual transmission. The electronic parking brake (EPB) may not engage as intended, allowing the vehicle to rollaway if the transmission is not in the proper gear when parked.

Risk: A vehicle rollaway can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPB actuator assembly, free of charge. The recall began July 19, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WTV-81.
