The contact owns a 2014 Subaru Legacy. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, there was a clicking sound coming from underneath the vehicle, and the vehicle swayed slightly before coming to a stop. The failure became more persistent, and the clicking sound became louder within a week. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who determined that the frame had severe rust that had created a hole near the ball joints on the driver’s side front wheel and informed the contact that the vehicle was not safe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The occupancy detection sensor module failed. Similar to the 2014 forester recall the module has failed and Subaru dealership wants $3300 to replace the module. My vehicle is suffering of the exact same issue described in recall WRA-24. However, this recall only covers the model years 2020 to 2022, mine is 2014 with approximately 106,000 miles. Since the last week of December, my vehicle has been to the Fort Wayne, IN Subaru Dealership approximately 9 time for the same issue. It has cost me over $2,500 plus the fuel used for all this trips (I live over 40 miles away from the dealership). The problem is still not 100 percent fixed after they changed the seat cushion, the airbag module, the seat belt buckle sensor, and I don't know what else. The last time (a couple of weeks ago) that the car was at the dealership, they had the car for over 2 weeks. The next morning, the car did the same thing again where the red airbag warning light turns on and the passenger airbag shuts off with a passenger sitting on the seat. I've taken videos of the issue to show the dealership as they seemed doubtful of what I was explaining to them. The dealer claims they have been in contact with Subaru and they don't know what else to do. They started providing me with a loaner free of charge after the 4th visit. In summary, same issue as WRA-24, over $2,500 so far, and still not resolved.

Brand new battery dies after letting the car sit for 3-10 days. Car draws 183mAmps of power just sitting, with no key in ignition and no doors open. This high amount of current kills the battery after letting the car sit for days. Legacy models after 2015 were recalled for this issue but not other years. This is an unacceptable product defect leaving customers stranded in potential remote locations.

12/7/16 I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM TWICE WHEN I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I REPORT'D IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN RACINE, WI. THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERN'D. SOME ONE STATED THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ITS OCCURRING PRIOR TO MY STATEMENT TO THEM. ANOTHER STATED IT WAS NOT DANGEROUS. I STATED IT WAS TO ME. I BELIEVE HE WAS THE LEAD SALESMAN. BOTH TIMES WERE SCARY TO ME. THERE IS SOME TYPE OF DEVICE IN TWO PLACES ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY SEEM TO BE "PLASTIC" & ARE CLOSE TO A RECTANGULAR/SQUARE SHAPE. I BELIEVE ONE HAS A MINUS SIGN ON THE LEFT & A PLUS SIGN ON THE RIGHT. I BELIEVE THEY ARE THERE IF I SHOULD DECIDE TO DRIVE IN THE MANUAL POSITION INSTEAD OF THE AUTOMATIC POSITION. EACH TIME THIS OCCURRED, THIS DEVICE SOMEHOW ENDED UP IN MY COAT OR JACKET POCKET & PREVENT'D ME FROM HAVING CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR TURN'D TOO FAR TO THE LEFT, TAKING ME OVER THE CENTER LINE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE COMING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION WHEN I BRAKED. THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED, I WAS ON THE TOP SECTION OF THE RAMP PARKING LOT WHERE I VOLUNTEER AT THE HOSPITAL. I WAS WEARING A DIFFERENT COAT THIS TIME FROM THE ONE I WORE THE FIRST TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION BOTH TIMES WHEN I HAD NO CONTROL. I HAD ASK'D AT THE RACINE DEALERSHIP IF THEY COULD BE REMOVED. THE LEAD SALESMAN STATED "NO". I HAVE NOT REPORT'D THE SECOND INCIDENT TO THEM DUE TO THEIR CAVALIER ATTITUDE. THIS DEALERSHIP HAS RELOCATED TO KENOSHA, WI. I HAVE ALSO SWITCH'D TO A DIFFERENT SERVICE CENTER IN MILWAUKEE, WI. ( SCHLOSSMAN'S )--- DUE TO THE SAME REASON. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD & MY PRINTER IS NOT WORKING. I APOLOGIZE, THIS IS THE BEST I CAN DO FOR YOU. I HAVE HAD MY SUBARU LEGACY FOR A LITTLE OVER 2 YEARS (IT'S A 2014) AND THE BLUE TOOTH NO LONGER WORKS AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT'S THE RADIO AND OF COURSE MY WARRANTY IS UP FOR THINGS LIKE THAT. I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS SINCE MY CAR IS NOT THAT OLD AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AT THIS POINT.

DOOR LOCKS EITHER DON'T UNLOCK OR LOCK. THEY MUST BE DONE MANUALLY. THIS CAUSED A PROBLEM WITH A CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT. YOU CANNOT GET THE DOOR UNLOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE USING THE REMOTE. WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO SUBARU AND THEY WILL NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, PARKING LOT. THIS IS A CONTINUAL PROBLEM

2014 SUBARU LEGACY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO CLAMP THAT HOLDS VEHICLE BUMPER REPLACEMENT ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER NOTICED SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THE BUMPER HAD POPPED OUT. SHE MANAGED TO PUSH IT BACK IN. HOWEVER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON ANOTHER OCCASION. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE CLAMP THAT HELD THE BUMPER IN PLACE WAS MISSING AND IT WAS POSSIBLE SHE MAY HAVE WENT OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED THEM TO BECOME LOOSE, AND EVENTUALLY LOST. A NEW CLAMP WAS INSTALLED AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, UNTIL THE FALL. WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER A HEARD A NOISE. WHEN SHE EXITED THE VEHICLE, SHE DISCOVERED THE BUMPER WAS HANGING FROM THE VEHICLE. EVIDENTLY, SHE HAD BEEN DRAGGING THE BUMPER FOR SEVERAL MILES AND THE BOTTOM BECAME SCRATCHED AND TORN. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS A SLIGHT IMPRESSION ON THE BUMPER AND IT LOOKED AS THOUGH IT HAD BEEN HIT AT SOME POINT. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST $ 1,034.84 TO REPLACE. *JB

EXPERIENCED STUCK DRIVER'S WINDOW LAST SUMMER IN PERIOD OF TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS (EXTREME TO MODERATE HEAT), REPORTED/SHOWN TO DEALERSHIP; SAME ISSUE THIS FEBRUARY (EXTREME TO MODERATE COLD). OTHERWISE, NO PROBLEMS WITH CAR SINCE BEGAN LEASE FALL 2014. ON MONDAY, MARCH 9, 2015, PARKED CAR ACROSS THE STREET FROM MY HOUSE ABOUT 6:15/6:30PM. DID ERRANDS, RETURNED ABOUT 30/45 MINUTES LATER TO GET GLASSES OUT OF CENTER CONSOLE -- 7/7:15PM. THEN I LOCKED THE CAR WITH REMOTE KEY PIECE. CAR ACKNOWLEDGED WITH SOUND, LIGHTS. THIS WAS THE LAST INTERACTIVE ACTION TAKEN WITH CAR. CAR HAD BEEN IDLE FOR 30/45 MINUTES. I SAW NOTHING NEW, UNUSUAL. I RETURNED TO THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 12 HOURS LATER, AROUND 7AM, TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 2015 TO GET IN THE CAR TO GO TO WORK. THE REMOTE KEY SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING; A FIRST SINCE I'D GOTTEN THE CAR. I TRIED THE CAR KEY IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR. DIDN'T WORK. AGAIN ODD. I TRIED THE BACK DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR; IT WAS OPEN (AGAIN ODD; I'D LOCKED THE CAR THE PREVIOUS EVENING). I BENT INSIDE, LOOKED TOWARD THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND NOTICED THE DOOR'S MANUAL DOOR LEVER MANGLED. I WORRIED THE CAR MIGHT HAVE BEEN VANDALIZED OVERNIGHT (UNUSUAL; I LIVE IN A LOW-CRIME NEIGHBORHOOD). THERE WAS A POWERFUL, CHEMICAL-LIKE SMELL IN THE CAR. I CAME AROUND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE, BENT IN THROUGH THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. EXPERIENCED STRONG CHEMICAL SMELL AGAIN. FROM THIS VANTAGE POINT, I NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, ON THE SIDE BY THE DASH AND FRONT WHEEL, WAS BURNT AND GUTTED; PART OF DASH ADJACENT BURNT. I LOOKED OUTSIDE OF THE CAR; SAW NO EXTERIOR DAMAGE. FOUND NO PERSONAL ITEMS MISSING, INCLUDING LOOSE CHANGE LEFT IN CAR FOR TOLLS/METERS. ASKED NEIGHBORS LIVING ON PART OF STREET WHERE THE CAR WAS PARKED; THEY HAD NOT SEEN A FIRE OR EXPLOSION THAT MORNING OR PREVIOUS EVENING. CALLED STATE FARM TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. TOOK PICTURES 8AM. *TR

I PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW 2014 SUBARU LEGACY ON MAY 16TH 2014. ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER I WAS DRIVING UP THE SLIGHT INCLINE OF THE DRIVEWAY OF THE APARTMENT HOUSE WHERE I LIVE. AS I REACHED THE STREET I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO TURN OUT INTO THE TRAFFIC AND THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER. ABOUT 5 SECONDS LATER THE POWER RETURNED AND THE CAR RESPONDED NORMALLY WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR NORMALLY. THREE OR FOUR DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR'S ENGINE LOST POWER WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS SAME LOSS OF POWER NOW HAPPENS ABOUT TWO OR THREE TIMES EACH WEEK. I CURRENTLY HAVE ABOUT 2500 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THIS COMPLAINT AND THEY HAVE KEPT THE CAR FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT THIRTY DAY FOR OBSERVATION, TESTING, AND REPAIR BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPRODUCE OR SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. THEY WARNED ME ABOUT DRIVING WITH TWO FEET BECAUSE IF THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE ACCELERATOR A PROBLEM LIKE THIS COULD OCCUR BUT I DO NOT DRIVE USING BOTH FEET AND HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN USING ONLY ONE FOOT. *TR

VEHICLE HAD A 2-5 SECONDS ACCELERATION HESITATION. TAKING OFF FROM A YIELD SIGN AND GOING ACROSS A HWY, THE CAR HAD ENOUGH POWER TO ROLL FORWARD. TRIED FLOORING THE ACCELERATOR, BUT ALSO DID NOT RESPOND TO FULL THROTTLE UNTIL AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE CAR STARTED TO SLOWLY MOVE. THE ENGINE IS ON LOW RPMS AND DOES NOT LAUNCH FORWARD AS TO INDICATE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE..... IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A FUEL DELIVERY OR THROTTLE SENSOR ISSUE. I ALSO HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH A 2013 SUBARU IMPREZA (TRADED IN THE IMPREZA THINKING IT WAS A QUIRK WITH THE CAR). SUBARU DEALER WAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE ON THE IMPREZA OR THE ON THE LEGACY. NO ERROR CODES PRESENT. I CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THE CAR (LEGACY) TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ASKED TO ATTACH ANY KIND OF DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO POSSIBLY CAPTURE VALUABLE DATA IN THE EVENT THAT THE ISSUE WAS REPRODUCED. WHEN THE PROBLEM HAS MANIFESTED, I HAVE ACCELERATED FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR FROM A SLOW ROLLING YIELD, THEN 2 - 5 SECOND DELAY IN ACCELERATION - VERY SLOW ROLL FORWARD. I SHARED THIS INFORMATION WITH THE DEALER. MY FAMILY AND I ALMOST GOT HIT A FEW WEEKS AGO BY A CAR GOING AROUND 60 MPH AND I WAS ALMOST HIT WHEN DRIVING THE IMPREZA (LET THE CAR ROLL BACK TO AVOID BEING HIT - I WAS ON SMALL INCLINE LEAVING MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HWY). MANY SUBARU OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE (OLD / NEW VEHICLES). THERE ARE SOME BLOGS WHERE CUSTOMERS MENTION HAVING BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND PLENTY OF BLOGS WHERE CUSTOMERS REPORT THE PROBLEM AND FRUSTRATION WHEN THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE REPRODUCED AND ARE SENT HOME WITHOUT A FIX. HOW CAN SAFERCAR.GOV HELP COMMUNICATE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ISSUE TO SUBARU BEFORE A FATALITY? *TR

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Forester, 2003-2006 Baja, 2004-2011 Impreza, 2004-2014 WRX (STI included), 2003-2014 Legacy and Outback, and 2005-2006 Saab 9-2X vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands or "Zone A." These vehicles had their passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, 2008-2011 Impreza vehicles, 2008-2014 WRX vehicles, 2005-2014 Legacy vehicles, 2005-2014 Outback vehicles and 2006-2008 Tribeca vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition switch installed as a replacement part. The ball spring inside the switch may break, reducing the strength of the ignition switch. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.

Risk: The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ignition switch, replacing the ignition switch, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUF-91.

Subaru of America is recalling certain model year 2014 Legacy 3.6R and Outback 3.6R and 2013 Tribeca vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through June 28, 2013 and equipped with 5-speed automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the parking rod may come loose inside the automatic transmission.

Risk: As a result of the parking rod detaching, the transmission may not be able to be moved from the "park" position preventing the vehicle from being moved or driven. Furthermore, even with the transmission shifted into the 'park' position, the parking mechanism may not engage, and the vehicle may roll away while in the "park" position, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transmission, free of charge. The recall began during August 2013. Owners may contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's recall number is WQJ-46.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Legacy vehicles manufactured November 26, 2008, to June 7, 2013, and 2010-2014 Outback vehicles manufactured January 9, 2009 to June 7, 2013. Due to contamination, components within the windshield wiper motor bottom cover may interfere with each other. If an obstruction, such as a buildup of snow or ice prevents the wiper arms from being able to stop in the parked position, the wiper motor may overheat and the bottom cover may melt.

Risk: If the windshield wiper motor overheats, the wipers may fail, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the wiper motor cover may melt, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the windshield wiper motor bottom cover assembly, free of charge. The recall began October 2016. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTK-71. Note: This recall supersedes recall 11V-469.
