My SRS light went on without being in an accident. Around the same time I noticed that there was a recall reported (NHTSA Recall Number 26V-227) which states that the vehicle may deploy airbags without cause by going over a pothole etc. I took my vehicle in to the Honda dealership and they confirmed that my SRS ECU needs to be replaced bc it detected an airbag deployment but since it already deployed they will not replace it under the recall. However, the recall states that they need to update the SRS ECU to prevent this exact scenario from happening without proper cause and if it already happened the SRS ECU will need to be replaced. The worst part is, that they cleared the recall through the database for my vehicle but did not actually fix any issues and the SRS system is still not functioning. I already made a complaint with Honda corporation over two months ago but so far they have not provided a resolution.

Multiple sensors malfunctioned. Mechanic read code U3000-49 (Multipurpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure). There was no collision or damage of any sort that led to this malfunction. The following systems no longer work: Adaptive Cruise control Collision mitigation system Lane keeping Assist Road departure mitigation system Blind spot info system Tire pressure monitor system Transmission system All of these failures started at exactly the same time. This severely compromises the ability to use this vehicle safely as these systems are all designed to prevent various safety hazards.

When vehicle is completely stopped at a traffic light there have been numerous occasions in which all electrical components fail and the vehicle turns off and fails to restart. This only occurs when the auto idle start is engaged. A few times I’ve had to completely jump the vehicle. I have replaced the battery and also had the car examined at the dealership. They stated they had previously updated the system, had heard of other instances of the same issue but since it wasn’t under recall and they couldn’t replicate the issue they couldn’t do anything. This has proved to be extremely dangerous because at rest, without being able to restart when the light turns green my family and I are at risk of being severely rear ended at high speeds.

Power TrainJul 2026 · ODI 11750904Details +Close −
The vehicle is a 2020 Honda Odyssey. A recurring and dangerous safety failure occurs involving the Auto Idle-Stop system. With the system enabled and the vehicle at a complete stop, the engine shuts off as designed. However, upon depressing the brake pedal to resume driving, the engine severely struggles to restart and completely fails. Simultaneously, the vehicle immediately and automatically shifts itself into PARK, and the entire dashboard display illuminates with all available warning icons and messages. This malfunction creates an immediate, high-risk safety hazard. When the incident occurs, I am trapped, locked in PARK, in live traffic lanes, sometimes at busy intersections or during left-hand turns. It is impossible to shift back into drive or quickly restart the engine. I am forced to remain stationary in traffic for multiple minutes until the system allows me to cycle the ignition completely OFF and then back ON to attempt a full restart and shift back into Drive. This leaves my vehicle, my passengers, and other drivers vulnerable to rear-end collisions.

2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L, 49k miles, no prior collisions. 1. Faulty system: SRS airbag module, defective factory aluminum clip (official Honda recall defect). EDR data verified this component failure by dealer technicians. 2. Safety risk: Driver airbag spontaneously deployed at 41MPH with zero impact. Seven occupants suffered soft tissue injuries and PTSD; sudden deployment created severe risk of secondary crash. 3. Dealer confirmation: Bay Ridge Honda (Brooklyn NY) diagnosed and confirmed the airbag clip defect via EDR readout and physical teardown, filed service records for this issue. 4. Inspectors reviewed vehicle: Honda dealer techs, EDR forensic specialists, and GEICO adjuster all inspected the car and confirmed no pre-crash damage. 5. Pre-fault warnings: No SRS warning lights, error codes or abnormal electrical symptoms appeared before the airbag deployed unexpectedly.

I am the original owner of a 2020 Honda Odyssey Elite. On July 7, 2026, at approximately 76,127 miles, five safety-system warning messages suddenly appeared simultaneously upon startup: Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Auto High Beam Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, and Lane Keeping Assist System Problem. Restarting the vehicle several times did not clear the warnings. After the vehicle sat for approximately 30 minutes, the warnings disappeared. On July 8, after driving approximately 400 miles home, I parked the vehicle outside in approximately 110-degree heat. About two hours later, upon startup, the same five warnings reappeared simultaneously, along with the Brake System warning light. An authorized Honda dealer confirmed the multiple warnings and performed a DTC scan. Code U3000-49 was stored, indicating an internal failure of the multipurpose camera located behind the rearview mirror. Further testing confirmed that camera replacement was required. The dealer replaced and recalibrated the multipurpose camera at 76,567 miles. The repair cost was $1,631.80 for parts and $717.50 for labor, totaling $2,349.30. I am concerned that failure of a single internal camera component simultaneously disabled multiple driver-assistance and collision-avoidance safety systems. I believe NHTSA should investigate whether multipurpose camera failures associated with DTC U3000-49 represent a recurring safety defect in 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicles.

The front-facing Honda Sensing camera in my 2020 Honda Odyssey overheated in a 90deg climate. This triggered multiple dashboard warning lights: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Problem, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Problem, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) System Problem, Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) Problem, BRAKE System Problem, and Auto High-Beam Problem. The Honda dealership quoted me $1850 to fix it and they said it was a well-known error. There were NO issues with my car prior to this problem. I keep up with all routine maintenance, oil changes, timing belt and water pump replacements, etc. Not only are these safety features inoperable, but these warning lights are very distracting to the driver, but worse than that- I would be unaware of other system failures since I have so many warnings displayed.

On 5/28/26, I went to get my van checked at a repair shop through my HealthCar warranty and I was told that I needed a system update on my brake system/ADAS/LKAS/ACC systems. All the lights beeped and were lighting up on my dash. It would go on and off from time to time, usually when it was more hot out. They told me to take to dealership and they need to do a system update and should fix no additional charge. I took it to the Honda dealership service department on 7/6/26 and was told it is the multipurpose camera has an internal failure and it would cost me $2,443.00 to repair it, plus I had to pay them a diagnostic fee. I have researched and been told by other repairs shops that this problem has been occurring often and it seems due to heat is the reason this happens.

There was a class action lawsuit filed against Honda on 7/2/26 in CA for certain Honda vehicles. I have had my van put on a computer that has given us the error code and is a front camera failure. I purchased my 2020 Honda Odyssey Brand new in California. On 6/27/2026 upon starting the vehicle up in the morning there was a myriad of warning messages that came up on the cluster for the first time out of the blue. The battery was replaced a few months ago with a new one and no MIL lights were illuminated prior to this morning. Now an amber BRAKE SYSTEM tell tail symbol is illuminated on the cluster. 1: Adaptive C.C. problem 2: Auto high beam problem 3: Collision mitigation braking system problem 4: Lane Keep Assist problem 5: Road depature mitigation problem The vehicle still is able to run and drive, but none of these standard vehicle safety features are working as expected. I can't even apply cruise control now. On each key cycle the error messages come back up, and when driving they also stay in the center of the cluster and make annoying dinging sounds. I disconnected the battery ground cable from the chassis for 15 min and reconnected, but the errors come back on instantly once the van is started up. With my OBD scanner, there is a code being set U0104-00. I have not paid yet to have the van inspected formally by the dealer.

SuspensionJun 2026 · ODI 11746642Details +Close −
The rear coil spring (driver side) on my 2020 Honda Odyssey failed and broke while I was driving approximately 45 mph on a city street on XXX in [XXX]. The component that failed is the rear suspension coil spring. I do not have the broken spring in my possession, as it was replaced by the dealer. Due to the coil spring failure, the rear shock absorber on the driver side was also damaged and requires replacement. This sudden failure caused the rear of the vehicle to drop/sag on the driver side, which affected vehicle stability and handling. It put my safety and the safety of other road users at risk due to a loud noise and an abrupt change in ride height. This made the vehicle pull and feel unstable. I was able to maintain control and safely pull over, but the incident was alarming and could have led to loss of control or a crash under different conditions (e.g., higher speed or heavier traffic). A few days prior to the failure (approximately XXX), I noticed a weird/unusual sound from the rear of the vehicle. At the time, I did not associate it with a suspension issue, and there were no warning lamps, messages, or other clear symptoms. The problem has not been reproduced. The vehicle and component were inspected by a Honda dealer on XXX. The dealer confirmed that the driver-side rear coil spring had broken near the bottom and replaced it. They also noted that the rear shock absorber was damaged as a result and needs to be replaced. No other inspections (manufacturer representative, police, or insurance) have occurred at this time. This appears to be a sudden mechanical failure of the rear coil spring with no apparent external cause (e.g., no prior impact, accident, or road debris). The auto Start/Stop feature doesn't work as needed. It will randomly lurch, turn the car off make me put it in park and then have me restart it. Sometimes the car does not start right away and I am stuck on the road until it decided when and if it will restart. Myself and my family of 5 are not stuck in the road scared of getting smashed into by other drivers unaware that we are stopped or anticipating for us not to be stopped in the middle of the road. I really dont want my family to go to the hospital or die because of this nonsense. Sometimes it doesn't fully shut off but will give error warnings like collision mitigation assistance even though there is nothing for it to mitigate. There are no cars around me and it shouldn't have done this. This has been happening for some time and only happens haphazardly meaning I can't always have the dealer identify or diagnose the issue. Then when I brought it to the dealer, they told me it was because of a power liftgate module error. Which was not true and didn't solve the issue.

I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey with approximately 73,000 miles that has experienced recurring infotainment and electrical system failures. The vehicle has undergone two prior repairs related to the Fakra connector issue, but the problem continues to occur. During the failure, the infotainment screen becomes inoperable, audio functions are affected, and the rearview backup camera becomes unavailable or unusable. The issue appears to be intermittent and is often triggered during or after rain. In addition to the infotainment failures, I have experienced key fob recognition issues requiring the key to be placed near the start button to start the vehicle. There is also static through the speakers, particularly when turning the steering wheel. The vehicle has been taken to a Honda dealership multiple times for this concern, and dealership personnel have witnessed the malfunction. Despite two previous repair attempts, the issue persists. Because the failure affects the operation of the rearview camera system, which is a critical safety feature, I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle and whether the prior repairs adequately addressed the underlying defect. I am submitting this complaint because numerous other Honda owners have reported similar recurring failures involving the infotainment system, Fakra connector repairs, backup camera operation, and related electrical concerns. I request that NHTSA investigate whether there is a broader defect affecting these vehicles and whether previous repair procedures are providing a permanent remedy. The dealer recently confirmed the fault was present and advised that additional diagnosis and consultation with Honda technical support would be required to determine the cause.

I am filing a complaint regarding recurring electrical and infotainment failures involving my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L. The vehicle experiences loud static and speaker distortion, infotainment system instability, static noises when turning the steering wheel, and intermittent key fob recognition issues requiring the key to sometimes be held near the start button. The issue appears to happen more often during or after rain or moisture exposure. The dealership has already repaired/replaced the FAKRA connector or related infotainment connector multiple times, yet the issue continues returning. The dealership recently witnessed the malfunction themselves and acknowledged the problem is still present. I am currently waiting for further direction from Honda technical support. This appears to be a widespread issue. There are many Reddit discussions and Honda owner Facebook groups where owners describe identical symptoms and repeated failed repairs. Some owners report having the same FAKRA connector replaced as many as six times with the issue still returning afterward. The repeated failure of the same repair raises concerns that the current remedy is ineffective and that there may be a larger electrical, wiring, grounding, or moisture intrusion issue involved. Because this problem continues after multiple repair attempts, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate recurring electrical and infotainment failures in Honda Odyssey vehicles and the repeated failure of the current repair solution.

Our vehicle has stalled at stop lights several times over the past 6 years. The auto stop/start feature seems to fail. The vehicle will shut off but when you repeat the brake it will not restart and the vehicle will die completely. You have to put it in park, wait a few seconds and try and restart. Additionally it has completely died at gas station after turning it off to refuel. When you go to start the vehicle it will be completely dead, zero power. We had to have it jump started. The battery has been replaced twice and was testing normal at the dealership. Not a battery issue. Honda acts like this is unheard of but our own research indicates it is a common well known problem with new Odyssey models.

NHTSA Complaint Narrative – 2020 Honda Odyssey VIN: [XXX] Beginning in 2021, the vehicle experienced repeated starter and idle stop system failures, including: •delayed starting •failure to restart after idle stop •multiple warning lights •intermittent no start conditions •repeated battery failures The earliest documented complaint (Culver City Honda, March 25, 2021) states: “When using the auto start/stop feature the vehicle will have multiple warning lights. Sometimes will struggle to turn back on.” These symptoms continued for several years despite multiple dealer visits, battery replacements, electrical diagnostics, and software updates. In late 2025, the starter failed completely and required replacement at a cost of $1,890.25. The failure of the idle stop restart system poses a safety risk, as the vehicle may fail to restart in traffic after stopping at an intersection. Honda has refused to provide any written response regarding the issue. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware of the repeated failures and the potential safety implications. My 2020 Honda Odyssey power tailgate has failed due to water intrusion through defective rear body seam sealer, a known manufacturing defect. Water leaked into the rear driver's side panel and damaged the power tailgate control module, making the rear door inoperable. I took my vehicle to the Honda dealership, who confirmed this is a factory defect related to improper seam sealing. The quoted repair cost is over $8000. Honda has declined to cover this under warranty. This defect poses a safety risk as the tailgate can open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. I am aware of a pending class action lawsuit involving 2018-2021 Honda Odyssey models with this same defect. No recall has been issued. I am requesting thr NHTSA investigate and compel Honda to issue a formal recall.

Vehicle stopped at red light, idle start/stop stopped engine. At green light, upon pressing on gas engine started, vehicle ready to move, but stalled. This happened a few times. Took it to Honda who said they know about this issue and that the Isle start/stop is not a “perfect” system. Tried to sell me an expensive battery. Huge concern in terms of safety in a vehicle with children and stalling in busy streets.

Sliding doors sometimes do not close all the way and then reopen automatically. You cannot press the sliding doors to close and walk away. You have to stay to make sure they close because often times it will kick back and reopen. You have to manually help push the sliding door to close. Elite trim has no way to make the doors be able to be closed manually, if needed. Took it to Honda, they said they have never heard of doors not closing and reopening so they could not help me, but I have spoken to quite a few Honda Odyssey owners in parking lots and they all stated that the doors do sometimes not close all the way and return to being fully open. Maybe the motor for the doors isn’t strong enough and depends on vehicle tilt or the temperature outside, but for whatever reason the automatic doors are randomly not fully closing.

I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey and I am currently having a safety issue with the power tailgate. Upon inspection by my Honda dealership, my vehicle requires a new power tailgate control unit and floor harness and my roof rail and clips need to be re-sealed and replaced. It was discovered that due to the break in seal the connectors corroded due to a water leak.In April of 2026 I received multiple warning messages on my dashboard. The first was Power tailgate problem and the second was keyless remote problem. At first I noticed my car continuously beeping while driving along with the warning on my dashboard. I attempted to turn the vehicle off to see if it would reset, but it did not. I attempted to open and close my tailgate. I could only open my tailgate with the push button on my dashboard. I had to manually close my tailgate due to my buttons on my car and my key fab failing to work. Next while driving, I could hear the locking mechanism on my tailgate continuously locking and unlocking. Of course this particularly concerned me because I have 3 young children and their safety as well as mine was in danger. It was unclear if my tailgate was going to open while driving. Such an action could potentially cause a serious threat or harm to myself, my family or other vehicles on the road.

Lane DepartureMay 2026 · ODI 11735918Details +Close −
While driving the vehicle under normal conditions, multiple advanced driver assistance and safety systems suddenly became unavailable without warning. The systems affected include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance, and related safety features that rely on the forward-facing camera. The failures occurred at the same time and were indicated by warning messages displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer, who confirmed a diagnostic trouble code indicating an internal electronic failure of the forward multipurpose camera. The failed component is installed behind the windshield and is available for inspection upon request. The dealer stated that no accident, physical damage, misuse, or external cause was identified. After the camera failure was identified, the vehicle also briefly displayed a transmission system warning message that later cleared on its own. In addition, the center display screen has shown unstable behavior while driving, including unexpected resets and flashing back to the navigation screen. The sudden loss of collision mitigation, lane assistance, and warning systems reduces the vehicle’s ability to assist in avoiding crashes, particularly in emergency situations, and increases safety risk to the driver, passengers, and others on the road.

Investigations
4 NHTSA investigations on record
Investigations are agency reviews, not findings that a vehicle is defective.
On October 28, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE25018 to investigate complaints of inadvertent deployment of the side curtain and/or side thorax air bags. These complaints concern model year (MY) 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co. (Honda). Honda issued recall 26V227 on April 9, 2026, to address concerns of inadvertent side air bag deployment. In the recall filing, the company stated that “[a]s of April 2, 2026, Honda has had 130 warranty claims, 25 reports of an injury, and no reports of death related to this issue from January 24, 2017 – April 2, 2026.” Honda states that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side thorax and side curtain air bags, which may cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle encounters strong road impacts, such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. Honda stated that the SRS control logic for the second and third rows of seating contained an insufficient deployment threshold margin, allowing signal inputs to be misinterpreted as side impacts and causing inadvertent deployment of the side thorax and side curtain air bags. Recall 26V227 states that dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU with improved air bag deployment parameters. Consumers received notice of this recall in late May 2026. In view of the recall being conducted by Honda, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation (PE). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 414 reports of connecting rod bearing failures in the 3.5L V6 engine used in the following vehicles: Model Years (MY) 2018-2020 Acura TLX, MY2016-2020 Acura MDX, MY2016-2020 Honda Pilot, MY2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, and MY2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline. The subject engine failures were analyzed as part of a Recall Query (RQ24013). It was determined that these engine failures are outside the scope of Honda Recall 23V-751. Further, evidence gathered in conjunction with RQ24013 does not suggest this failure is caused by the same crankshaft manufacturing defect that is addressed by Honda in Recall 23V-751. Based on analysis of data from RQ24013, NHTSA has closed that investigation. The significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of RQ24013 presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On June 3, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE22005 after the agency received VOQs and several field reports concerning the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature on 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles. The complaints allege that the engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. The subject vehicles are equipped with a 3.5L engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On January 6, 2023, Honda released service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. These service bulletins address the failure to restart issue in the 2016-2019MY Honda Pilot vehicles, as well as the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2019-2022 Honda Passport, and 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The repair outlined in the service bulletins is a two-stage countermeasure to remedy the issue. The first stage is a Programmed Fuel Injection (“PGM-FI”) software update. The second stage is only deployed if the software update fails to remedy the issue. The second stage, depending on the model and model year, consists of replacement of the starter assembly, starter relays, and a valve adjustment. Additionally, Honda extended the warranty coverage to 10 years with unlimited mileage for vehicles requiring the second stage component replacement. ODI continues to receive complaints of the AIS failure to restart, with many complainants alleging the campaign countermeasures had been completed.NHTSA has reviewed Honda's Information Request Letter responses involving warranty claims, lawsuits, and consumer complaints in addition to ODI's own data. This Engineering Analysis is being opened to further consider the potential safety defect, including gathering additional data regarding Honda’s service campaign efficacy. ODI is additionally expanding the scope to encompass all vehicles addressed in Honda’s service bulletins 23-008 and 23-009 as well as newer model year vehicles, which are substantially similar to the vehicles covered by the service campaign. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
On November 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ24013 to assess the scope of Honda recall 23V-751 after receiving complaints that alleged connecting rod bearing failures in vehicles that were not within the scope of recall 23V-751. In November 2023, Honda recalled 248,999 various Model Year (MY)2016–2020 Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine. Honda recalled these vehicles due to a crankshaft manufacturing defect that caused premature connecting rod bearing wear and engine seizure. While the out-of-scope failures involved in these complaints appear to have a very similar failure mechanism as the recalled engines, a thorough analysis of all available data from Honda has not indicated that the same manufacturing defect exists in the out-of-scope engines as the engines recalled by 23V-751. Based on this analysis ODI has determined that Honda has properly defined the scope of recall 23V-751. Consequently, ODI will close this RQ investigation. NHTSA will continue to investigate these complaints of engine failure as part of a new Preliminary Evaluation Investigation (PE25008). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances.
