2019 Acura TLX

Both headlight lenses on my 2019 Acura TLX developed severe internal stress cracking (crazing) with no external damage of any kind. The cracking appears to originate from inside the housing, consistent with heat stress or a manufacturing defect. Both headlights cracked identically and simultaneously, which rules out accidental damage. Acura corporate has denied a goodwill repair, classifying this as normal wear and tear. Estimated repair cost is 4,000. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and may affect other 2019 Acura TLX owners.

I am formally requesting a neutral third-party arbitration review under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to compel American Honda Motor Co. to provide a permanent mechanical remedy—specifically, the sourcing and installation of a brand-new, redesigned engine assembly (Engine #Four)— This vehicle frame is now on its third engine block. Car was bought 11/30/2024. At Grubbs Acura, fuel pump safety recall that involves flashing/re-calibrating the Engine Control Unit (FI-ECU) software was done. Just a few weeks after new fuel pump, the vehicle displayed sudden stalling symptoms. The engine suffered a terminal, catastrophic internal collapse. The vehicle was towed to Grubbs Acura where Corporate Honda directed a forced out-of-pocket internal engine teardown. The physical teardown explicitly confirmed a catastrophic connecting rod bearing failure (spun bearing) identical to the structural manufacturing flaws currently under active federal investigation by the NHTSA under Preliminary Evaluation PE25008 / RQ24-025. Corporate Honda subsequently issued a verbal agreement to fully reimburse my out-of-pocket teardown fees. Because a manufacturer will never fund diagnostic labor if evidence of owner fault is present, this corporate reimbursement serves as formal validation that no owner maintenance neglect occurred, and that the engine died exclusively from an inherent component defect. Gunn Acura (San Antonio, TX) confirmed with my vin, that Engine #3 was a warranty/dealer-installed replacement unit at 22,000 miles. It failed after less than 40,000 miles of total operation. A professionally manufactured and dealer-installed engine is reasonably expected to last well beyond 40,000 miles. The manufacturer network cannot utilize arbitrary part-ownership rules or uncooperative, fragmented dealer communications. The original factory-installed engine and the dealer-installed replacement engine both suffered identical connecting rod bearing failures.

I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding the execution of NHTSA Recall 24-002 (Connecting Rod Bearing Replacement) by an authorized Acura dealership, and a fundamental safety flaw in Acura’s official Service Bulletin for this recall. My vehicle underwent "Repair #1" under this recall, which involved opening the engine block and replacing the rod bearings due to a factory defect that causes metal-on-metal wear. However, upon picking up my vehicle, I discovered the dealership left the old, dirty oil filter attached to the engine. I reviewed Acura’s Service Bulletin 24-002 and realized the "Required Materials" list explicitly omits a new oil filter for Repair #1. Because dealerships strictly follow this bulletin for warranty reimbursement, they are systematically leaving old filters on engines that just received new bearings. This means old, metal-contaminated oil trapped in the filter is immediately recirculated through the brand-new precision bearings. This procedural flaw directly jeopardizes the integrity of the engine, completely undermining the purpose of the safety recall and putting drivers at risk of sudden engine failure at highway speeds. I have time-stamped video and photographic evidence of my vehicle’s mileage (61,325) and the untouched, original oil filter immediately after returning home from the dealership. The contact stated that he had bruises and cuts on his right temple and check and swelling, cuts and bruises on the left cheek and left temple and forehead. In 2022, my 2019 Acura TLX A-Spec received a warranty engine replacement due to a spun bearing. At that time, recall 23V-751 (connecting rod bearing defect) did not yet exist. Recently, the replacement engine developed a pronounced knocking/ticking noise at idle and during light acceleration. Multiple independent mechanics and an Acura service department confirmed the noise is abnormal and consistent with connecting rod bearing wear as described in the recall. Acura advised that my VIN is not included in the recall because the original engine was replaced. However, the replacement engine was supplied by Acura prior to the recall and may contain the same defective components. The dealership and Acura corporate did not inspect the internal components or verify whether the replacement engine used the revised bearing parts — they only referenced the VIN and engine number to deny recall eligibility. I currently have an open case with Acura, and the vehicle is scheduled for diagnostic inspection. I was informed that if the issue is determined to be related to recall 23V-751, diagnostic costs may be reimbursed, but there is no guarantee. This situation raises concern because my symptoms, timeline, and component failure are consistent with the known defect, yet my vehicle remains excluded from coverage. Given the safety implications of possible engine seizure or loss of power while driving, I am requesting that NHTSA review whether vehicles with Acura-supplied replacement engines should also fall under recall 23V-751. My vehicle had an engine rod bearing issue before the 1st recall, they replaced part of the engine. My vehicle also went through a starter recall and they also changed the rod bearing with the corrected part that was in for the last recall. Currently, my engine is still having the exact same rod bearing issue which is a safety concern for me. It’s currently at Ed Voyles Acura in Chamblee, GA waiting on a decision from corporate Acura. They will determine if they will pay for the repairs of my vehicle due to an old recall. This is the worse experience I have had with the Acura brand and I have had 3 Acuras in my life time. I think Acura is a beautiful car company with great performance. I would love if this situation would allow me a rental until my vehicle is fixed. Thank you.

This car suffers from the engine and rod bearing recall. I took the car to Park Avenue Acura to complete the recall work. The car had significant damage from the rod bearing issue and the dealership had the car for a month. They replaced the rod bearing, crank shaft, regular fuel pump among other things. Once I received the car, the car failed and became inoperable. This time the high pressure fuel pump became defective. While Acura representative informed me that there is (i) active recall on the high pressure fuel pump (but not on my vin) and (ii) direct impact of replacing regular fuel pump on leading to high pressure fuel pump failure, as my vin is not currently acknowledged, my repairs would not be covered. I would like to request that the scope of the VIN numbers be re-evaluated and secondly the impact of fuel pumps replacement leading to other fuel pump be evaluated such that the recall work can cover both issues related to the rod bearing.

High pressure fuel pump failure. Car not functional and every warning light started to light up. The car just was serviced for rod bearing (entire crank shaft needed replacement) and regular fuel pump recall replacement which took the dealership almost a month to complete. I spoke to Acura representative who indicated that when either of the fuel pump or high pressure fuel pump is replaced, the other pump could fail. I'm not sure why both of the fuel pumps (standard and high) are not both replaced as part of the recall if there is substantial damage as was my case. Also, please note that there is an active high pressure fuel pump recall on my car, just not my vin.

The engine seized due to failed cylinder rod and/or Engine bearing. This model has had a recall for the exact same issue in the past. It has been repair from when the previous owner had the car. Now this exact same issue occurred on 06/09/2025, after a month of driving the vehicle. I was driving and in the middle of nowhere my engine stopped working and it was hard to steer, couldn't accelerate, car was in motion and had to safely pull off the road. I was stranded in the Las Vegas heat, in Henderson, in the middle of no where for 5 hours. The vehicle is getting repaired at a local repair shop with a replacement engine but I'm unsure if the newer engine has had the recall service done to it or not, so there is a potential possibility that this issue can occur again. I've had to spend 400 including deductible to repair the vehicle and is being repaired with the help of my warranty. I did not get any warnings on dash or anything.

On several occasions I have experienced issues with the performance of my vehicle. Upon start up and attempting to move forward while the car is in drive the vehicle hesitates to move and feels like it is going to choke and stop. I have experienced this same issue at stops while the car is in operation. There is an open recall for 2015-20 TLX no SH-AWD Fuel Pump Mtr Saf Recall Exp2, RECALL DATE:12/18/2023 which has yet to be fixed. I have been told by Tempe Acura that the parts are not available and basically I will be called when the parts are available. My safety and the safety of others are at risk when the car is not accelerating and causing a stalling or non-movement of the car. I have experienced the car stalling abruptly and coming to hard stops. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer by notice in the mail. The vehicle has been inspected when another recall was fixed which took over a year to resolve. This specific issue has yet to be resolved. Driving on the hwy on left most lane, car started jerking when accelerating and slowing when hitting the accelerator. Check engine light blinks on and off while this is happening. Scary and terrifying moment on the hwy, was able to get into emergency lane and slowly get car off hwy into parking lot. Got the car towed to Acura, they ran "diagnostics" and could not replicate the problem or even find the check engine code. They recommended 7 items of which some were complete nonsense and upselling instead of finding the solution to dangerous problem. Seems like the fuel pump issue and they won't confirm anything. Saying I need at oil change with 40% left on indicator, tire rotation, ac filter, and other non sense upsells instead of finding the problem that almost caused accident. Acura dealership had no clue when fuel pump part will come in and I have no other vehicle. NHTSA needs to fine Acura and tell them to stop selling new cars and fix the 2.5 million on the road today with problem. Need help on this!

The messages "Road Departure Mitigation Problem", "Lane Keeping Assist problem", "Collision Mitigation Braking System Problem" and other unknown messages were displayed. 2019 Acura TLX 28k miles - was slowing pulling into a parking spot in a parking garage downtown San Diego. Suddenly the car had no brakes while pressing the brake pedal to the floor with no resistance from the brakes, the car start revving hard and accelerating very fast. I stopped by hitting a brick barrier. Steering wheel and knee airbags deployed. Fortunately I arrived at work early that day and did not hit anyone or any other cars. Our Insurance company USAA said they can not repair the car. The automatic emergency equipment did not kick in either. Acura was advised of the issue case number [XXX]. Fortunately my injuries were minor cuts and bruising but if this incident had happened somewhere else it could have resulted in loss of life. I received two recalls and multiple notices saying the parts are not available for the recall. Over 6 months later I receive a notice the parts are finally available. I tried to make an appointment with my local dealer and was told they will not repair unless the check engine light is on. If what happens in the recall (fire, crash or injury), how will I be able to get the check engine light to come on? I'm afraid to drive the car because I don't want to be stranded, plus I don't want the car to catch fire, cause a crash or be injured. Why isn't Honda/Acura making the parts to correct this problem and why is the dealer not complying with the recall notices I'm receiving? On the Acura recall website, when I enter my VPN, it notes to please take immediate action to have your vehicle repaired but the dealer won't do it! As I'm looking at the additional details below...it appears that a fire, crash or injury needs to happen. Unbelievable!

This car exhibits rumbling when goinin to a decreasing downward motion as if its trying to change gear but cant. coming home from a doctors appointment last month it was raining an coming up to the top of a very small hill and just as i hit the top at the point the shocks start to lift up I almost lost control. This is not the first time its happened. It usually happens in a decelerating turn. but I have tried to get appointments with Huntsville and nashvile dealerships. Hunstville had my appointment i waited for for 4 months and it was around june the 14th and they told me not to come in they were out of parts. So they had parts but ran out!

The car will stall. The auto start/stop does not turn the car back on. The car fails to start sometimes when trying to leave. We have almost been rear ended multiple times, the transmission stalls and will not “go” when you press the gas or the car won’t even turn back on. We have contacted Acura and a local dealer. Both say they do not have a remedy for this issue yet even though it’s part of the recall and keep pushing it off to the next season. Each time I call for an inspection, I get told there is nothing they can do. I ask about seeking legal advice and they just tell me they don’t have a remedy so a lawyer can not help me.

I have been notified by Acura as well as Carfax that I need to address my connecting rod for a potential safety issue/recall. I set up an appointment with Auto Nation Acura in Colorado Springs, CO and was just informed they are refusing to inspect my vehicle for this recall. The service advisor informed me that they will only address vehicles that have the actual failure happen to them, leaving people stranded.

Risk: Teeth separation from the timing belt may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of crash.

Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace any affected timing belt free of charge.
