2013 Land Rover LR4

The transmission oil cooler pipes commonly leak on 2010-2013 LR4 and Range Rover Sport (LS) to the extent that a TSB (LTB00378NAS2) was issued on September 9th 2014 by JLR. The fluid leak causes undue wear on the transmission along with corrosion of the chasis. JLR in Alpharetta, GA wants to charge $3,100 dollars to replace the defective parts. I believe that this problem is much more common that JLR has previously represented in the model years mentioned above and that this should be reclassified as a recall as soon as possible.

The 2022 repair to address NHTSA Safety Recall Number: 21V-635 - Gasoline Fuel Tank Flange Assembly Cracking was inadequate and led to a fuel pump crack that we are now having to repair in January 2025, after a routine check indicated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. We transport three school-aged children in our vehicle and was told by a mechanic that the car was unsafe to drive and could blow up if we continued to drive it. My husband had the vehicle towed and contacted Land Rover, since we previously had it repaired and continued to experience the issues other drivers complained about even after the repair, including fuel odor, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp illuminating and liquid fuel on the ground. Land Rover indicated that the repair from 2022 was adequate and refused to remedy the fuel tank leak. The cost for the repair is $1700.

The fuel system failed on my first real highway trip to the mountains. Suddenly lost power to accelerate on highway making it dangerous to pass, warning lights came on. Vehicle was taken to the nearest small town not equipped to repair however vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive and I had to have it towed 300 km home. Fuel injection system failed and caused metal bits to get into engine causing engine to also need replacement. This is at only 144,000 kms. This was a $15,200 repair. Seems like this was a huge failure of the fuel injection system.

I recently had a failure, while driving, of the left rear toe link bolt on my 2013 Land Rover LR4. A few pictures of this fractured bolt (Land Rover Part # RYG501580G) are attached. The failure caused the left rear wheel to toe in about 10-20 degrees. Fortunately I was driving on a circular on-ramp to Interstate 15 in St. George, Utah. Had I gotten on the freeway and had this failure while changing lanes at 60 to 70 mph, I suspect the vehicle could have flipped and crashed. The bolt holds the Rear Suspension Toe Link, Part # LR019117, to the wheel hub. The fractured part of the bolt remains in the hub. From the pictures, it looks as thought the bolt had began to fracture some time ago (the darker, discolored areas on each side of the bolt). These fracture areas would be consistent with loads imposed from turning the vehicle. The final catastrophic failure occurred at one time, as can be seen by the “silver” area down the center of the bolt. This pattern is vertical with respect to the vehicle. This is a classic stress fracture and failure.

I am not sure what component malfunctioned, but it is available for inspection. I was driving on the highway going around 73-75 mph (no more than 76) in a 70 mph zone. I had just come off of a slight turn on the highway that ends with a small bump on the highway and once I was past the curve then going straight, the body of the car started to wobble back and forth. My safety was put at risk because this car is a high risk already for rolling over and it felt like the whole car was going to tip over wobbling back and forth. Others safety was at risk because I had to decelerate on the highway to stop the wobbling and continue until the nearest exit at an unsafe speed on the highway at about 50 mph. After further research I believe it was a "death wobble" which can be extremely dangerous for the people occupied in the vehicle and vehicles behind because of the need to slow down. The problem has not been reproduced as of now because of fear of safety. The vehicle has been inspected by a personal car mechanic. The day prior I had just received the car back from personal mechanic to put new tires on, new brake pads, and a new air bag sensor put in.

I OWN A 2013 LAND ROVER LR 4. SINCE OWNING MY VEHICLE ON AT LEAST SEVEN OCCASIONS MY LR 4 HAS SUDDENLY UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION RESULTED IN MY TWO ACCIDENTS. IN JANUARY 19, 2017 MY LR 4 UNINTENTIONALLY SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, AFTER A COMPLETE STOP, MY CAR LUNGED FORWARD WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, AND I HIT ANOTHER CAR. IN DECEMBER 2017, I HAD A FRIGHTENING INCIDENT AT MY SON'S SCHOOL WHERE THE CAR ACCELERATED WHILE I WAS IN THE CAR POOL LINE AFTER I STOPPED TO ALLOW SOME KIDS TO PASS IN THE CROSS WALK. I HAD TO QUICKLY SLAM MY CAR IN PARK TO MISS HITTING A COUPLE OF MY SON'S CLASSMATES. IN JANUARY 2018, I DROPPED MY CAR OFF TO RESOLVE THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION ISSUE IN MY LR 4. AFTER THREE WEEKS, LAND ROVER SERVICE TEAM WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE AND THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MY LR 4 WHEN A LR TECHNICIAN DROVE MY VEHICLE AND MY LR 4 SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNINTENTIONALLY WHILE HE WAS DRIVING ON THE BAY BRIDGE ON RAMP. AFTER THIS INCIDENT THE LR TECHNICIAN HAD MY CAR TOWED BACK TO LAND ROVER AND THEY REPLACED A FUEL INJECTOR. THE LR TECHNICIAN MENTIONED THAT HE BELIEVED THE CLOGGED FUEL INJECTOR WAS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM FOR THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MY LR 4. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. I BELIEVE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN LAND ROVERS IS NEEDED, ALONG WITH A RECALL ON THE FUEL INJECTORS ON THE LR 4. I DO NOT PLAN TO RESUME DRIVING MY LR 4 AGAIN AS IT IS DANGEROUS, DEFECTIVE, UNSAFE, AND I'VE LOSS COMPLETE CONFIDENCE IN MY LR 4. WHILE TRAVELING ON I-49 NORTH AT 50 MPH IN KANSAS CITY MISSOURI, OUR LAND ROVER LOST ELECTRICAL CONTROL OF CAR. THE CAR SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE, POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES LEAVING THE CAR DRIFTING WITHOUT POWER AT 50 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO COAST THE CAR OFF OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT INJURY OR COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAR HAD LIGHTS AND RADIO POWER BUT COULD NOT BE STARTED. ONCE STOPPED THE CAR'S EMERGENCY BRAKE COULD NOT BE ENGAGED, SO THE DRIVER HAD TO STAY WITH THE CAR TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AFTER THE EVENT. FIVE SECONDS PRIOR TO THE POWER SHUTDOWN, AN INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAID RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE. OTHER INFORMATION IS: 'EARLIER THAT DAY THE CAR HAD BEEN REFUELED WITH PREMIUM GASOLINE 'THE CAR HAS A ONE YEAR OLD BATTERY 'THE CAR HAS HAD PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASE WITH THE KEYLESS ENTRY. SOME OF THE KEY I HAVE WILL ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS INSTEAD OF LOCK THE CAR DOORS.

I PARKED MY LR4 IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH IS ON AN INCLINE. I SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION TO WHAT I BELIEVED WAS PARK, BUT APPARENTLY THE SHIFTER DID NOT END UP ALL THE WAY IN THE PARK POSITION. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE USING THE PUSH-BUTTON SWITCH, OPENED THE DOOR AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN ROLLING TOWARD ME. THE DOOR HIT ME ON THE WAY DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, AND I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO JUMP CLEAR OF THE OPEN DOOR INTO THE STAIRWAY. THE CAR CONTINUED ROLLING DOWN HILL, AND THE DOOR, STILL OPEN, HIT THE RETAINING WALL, FOLDING IT BACK OVER ITS HINGES. THE CAR CONTINUED ROLLING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, INTO BUSY TRAFFIC?A CAR NEARLY HIT IT?AND ACROSS THE STREET, WHERE IT T-BONED A HONDA PARALLEL PARKED ACROSS THE STREET. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and 2010-2016 LR4 vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines. The fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank may crack, possibly resulting in a fuel leak.

Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel outlet flange, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N623.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2014 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport and 2013-2014 LR4 vehicles manufactured September 16, 2013, to June 30, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires subsequently lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure.

Risk: If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the Body Control Module (BCM) software, free of charge. The recall began on November 6, 2014. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837, Option 9. Land Rover's number for this recall is P050.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Land Rover LR4 vehicles manufactured August 15, 2012, to September 18, 2012. Due to the use of an incorrect primer, the panoramic roof adhesive may not adequately secure the roof assembly.

Risk: The insufficient bond may result in the panoramic roof assembly detaching from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will apply the correct primer, free of charge. The recall began in August 2015. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is P065.
