I opened my sunroof cover and the back of my headliner dropped. The back window is already small and the headliner hangs in front of it obstructing the view. It seems like everyone has this same issue or defect which is pretty pricey to repair.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a safety and quality concern with my 2017 Infiniti QX30. The interior headliner in the rear section of my vehicle has begun sagging significantly, which obstructs rear visibility and creates a potential driving hazard. Based on my research and discussions with service professionals, this issue appears to be a manufacturer defect rather than normal wear. I have also learned that the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250—which shares a platform with the Infiniti QX30—experienced the same headliner sagging issue. In fact, this problem was considered a safety concern due to restricted rear visibility. Despite this being a known issue on a mechanically and structurally similar model, I was informed that my Infiniti dealer does not currently have a recall or coverage directive for this defect. As a consumer, I believe this issue should fall under manufacturer responsibility, as it affects visibility, vehicle safety, and structural integrity of the interior components. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this complaint as it relates to both driver safety and potential widespread defect concerns across this model. I also urge NHTSA to investigate whether Infiniti should extend the same consideration and remedy as Mercedes-Benz provided to GLA 250 owners for the same issue. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

The contact owned a 2017 Infiniti QX30. The contact stated that, while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed on a highway, another vehicle suddenly merged into her lane. The driver was unable to react and collided with the rear of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle swerved out of the lane towards the right shoulder, coming to a complete stop on the side of the roadway. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact's wife was transported to an area hospital by EMT and treated for a fractured sternum and a large contusion on her forehead as a result of her hitting the windshield. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.

The driver’s side heater does not function correctly. When heat is turned on, the passenger side warms but the driver’s side only blows cold air. This prevents the windshield on the driver’s side from properly defrosting/defogging in cold or wet conditions, which creates a serious visibility hazard. Additionally, none of the steering wheel controls function due to a diagnosed clock spring failure. This failure also affects the horn and may impact the driver’s airbag connection. A non-functioning horn prevents warning other drivers/pedestrians, and loss of airbag function creates a major crash safety risk. The vehicle was inspected at an Infiniti dealership, and the problems were confirmed. The issues appeared shortly after purchase and have been consistent since. Safety risk: – Reduced visibility due to inability to defrost/defog the driver’s side of the windshield. – Loss of horn function. – Potential failure of driver’s airbag deployment due to faulty clock spring.

Hello. My vin number is not showing unresolved recalls, but I believe it is based on my experience. I was parking my car, which involved turning my steering wheel all the way to the right, and heard a crunching, clicking sound. I did some teoubleshooting, and believe it is the clock spring giving out. What concerns me is 1 of the 4 recalls in particular. Infiniti recalled the 2017 and 2018 QX30 compact crossover SUV due to a potential for the driver's airbag to deploy unexpectedly. The recall was issued due to a grounding issue with the steering components that could cause an electrostatic charge to build up. If the airbag clock spring broke, the driver's side airbag could deploy accidentally, which could result in a crash or injury to the driver. When I called Sewell Infiniti in Dallas, TX, I was told they had no recalls showing for my 2017 QX30, and to look at it would cost $240. I am currently not in a place financially to be able to afford this, but am concerned for my safety. I bought this car used from Carmax, but have since taken it to Sewell Infiniti for service and repairs. Please advise the best course of action as I am truly scared to drive my car due to this potentially deadly situation.

While driving vehicle warning message appeared on cluster saying “ABS INOPERABLE” with ABS and traction control lights on. Minutes later all power steering is gone and vehicle is very difficult to steer. This not only put me in danger but also my passengers and others on the road as well. This has happened multiple times. Brought the vehicle to the infinity dealer to be told I needed 2 new batteries. Bought new batteries and is still happening. The owner manual says to rock steering wheel side to side while driving 12mph to reset. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. I have read multiple complaints on different forums for the same issue I am complaining about. Is Infinity waiting for someone to be injured or killed due to this malfunction before they issue a recall and fix this problem? In addition to this electronic issue I have also had other lights appear for “reverse not possible”, maintenance required, as well as others I can not remember at this time. Clearly there is an electrical issue with these vehicles.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I am not entirely sure what specific part of my car is causing this issue, but from the research I have done regarding other people with my make/model of the car, it seems like it is something with the electrical system/auxiliary battery. Yes, it can be examined upon request at this time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My car has an ecostart button that is automatically on when you get into the car, and there is no way to turn it off unless you remember to press the button to turn it off manually. My car (and many other people's cars with this make/model) have described the exact same issue when driving. The ecostart is malfunctioning. The engine will shut off at a red light, and when I go to lift my foot off the brake to go again, the car will make a loud popping noise and shut off entirely. A message pops up that says "Do not shift gears. See dealership." I have to physically turn the car on and off again to move, and I only figured this out after having been stuck at a red light in the middle of traffic. It is not safe that this car will completely lose functionality in the middle of traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I took it to a mechanic that confirmed the check engine light was on for an ecostart code, but they could not figure out why the code was being pulled. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? I only received a message when the car started failing. There were times where the car would make the popping noise, the radio would turn off, and then it would slowly come back on without the entire car shutting off.

When i went to open the panoramic roof shade it ripped and tore. The manufacture acknowledges that there was a different design to fix the issue that came from the factory with a flaw in the design. The sun shade for the panoramic roof has had a different design created from a flaw in the original design. The original part will cause the shade to rip & tear. Once the rip and tear are created, that causes the sun to shine down into your eyes at certain angles from the side of the shade. Here are the part number lists for the part i am talking about Part Number: 91250-HW00E Supersession(s): 91250-HW00D; 91250HW00E

I was in a car accident where the front of my car collided with another car damaging and taking part of the front of my car off and pushing it up bulging at the side mirrors and my airbag did not deploy. After the impact, my dashboard had "SRS Malfunction Service Requested" light to come on. This accident occurred on 4.25.22 around 6am in New Orleans located at the I-10 and I-610 EB. The car was deemed as a complete total by both insurance parties even though the airbag did not deploy. I hit my head knocking my glasses off my face and my chest causing severe whiplash, back muscle spasms, and broke a rib from the impact of hitting my steering wheel. I do have a picture of the SRS light that came on. Consumer totaled car with some injuries that could have been avoided had my airbag not malfunctioned and deployed.

I have been attempting since July to get the recall repaired. I went there in July after calling and making an appointment but they did not have a loaner car so I left. No one could tell me how long the repair would take. Attempt # 2 called Infiniti of Coconut creek and explained that I was calling to get an appointment to have the recall for my steering repaired and I wanted to make an appointment . He told me to come down. I explained to him what happened last time and I didn't want to make an unnecessary trip and I wanted to make sure it was something they could fix today or that they had a loaner car available for me. I then asked for a supervisor who advised me they had no loaner cars and he was not sure how long the repair would take. He said that he would check with the tech and put me on a list for a loaner car after a 10 minute rant on how they have no loaner cars b/c customers like me don't bring them back. That was 4 months ago never to hear from him again. Attempt # 3 in November called again same run around, sent emails to both Infiniti and Infiniti of coconut creek and heard back from the Service manager same person I spoke to in July (although he denies it. I recognize his voice. He stated that they needed to order the part, that it would take 2 to 4 weeks and once it came in he would call me to schedule the repair. Much like last time no call back. It's now been over 5 weeks and I still have not heard back regarding the repair of my recalled car.

THIS COMPLAINT IS THAT OF SERIOUS HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK IGNORED WITH IGNORANCE AND BELLIGERENCE BY INFINITI. THE QX30 IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CAR THAT IS NOT JUST ROLLING BACKWARDS WHILE IN DRIVE HOWEVER IT APPEARD TO BE DRIVING BACKWARDS IN DRIVE. WHILE THE QX30 IS STATIONARY ON AN CITY OR HIGHWAY, WITH OR WITHOUT THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT JUST ROLL SLIGHTLY, HOWEVER ENGAGE IN BACKWARDS MOTION TO A POINT OF THE CAR SEEMINGLY DRIVING BACKWARDS WHILE THE CAR IS IN DRIVE. THE CAR ESSENTIALLY DRIVES IN REVERSE, WITHOUT OPERATOR CONTROL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JBA INFINITI ELLICOTT CITY, MD WHERE THE MANAGER KEN STATED THIS WAS A "DESIGN FLAW" WITHIN THE QX30. I STATED THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS SITUATION, AS THIS OCCURS WHILE ON AN INCLINE OR NOT. IT WAS STATED THE QX30 DOES NOT HAVE A TRANSMISSION LOCK WITHIN THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE AND THEREFORE THE VEHICLE DOES HAVE THE ABILITY TO ESSENTIALLY "ROLL AWAY WHILE IN DRIVE". I EXPLAINED THE SERIOUS NATURE AND RISK TO PUBLIC SAFETY. I WAS DIRECTED TO BRING MY ISSUE UP WITH INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS. Investigations

Investigations are agency reviews, not findings that a vehicle is defective.

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
