“NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint — Date of Incident: November 23, 2025
 Vehicle: 2022 Ram 1500- E-Torque
 VIN: [XXX]
Location: Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA Description of the Safety Issue: On November 23, 2025, my wife was driving our 2022 Ram 1500 E-Torque with our three older children on the way to the park. While traveling on Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake, VA, the steering wheel suddenly locked up without warning. At the same moment, a red warning light appeared on the dashboard with an icon that resembled a steering wheel. The steering wheel froze and pulled the truck sharply to the right, causing her to lose control. The vehicle then veered off the road and crashed into an electrical pole. There were no prior issues or warnings before this sudden failure. This was a complete and unexpected loss of steering control, creating an extremely dangerous situation that put my family at serious risk. Injuries / Damage: •Vehicle sustained front-end damage from striking the pole. •My wife is currently suffering with pain in the back of her neck area. Additional Notes:
I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue, as it appears to be a significant safety defect that could potentially affect other Ram 1500 E-Torque vehicles. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)”

“On 4/7/23 the vehicle was taken into the shop because it cutoff randomly. The dealership kept it 2 days and said they couldn’t replicate the issue. On 5/7/23 I was on my way home driving roughly 40-45 MPH. The vehicle shutoff causing my steering to not work and my brakes to not work. I hit a telephone pole head on splitting the telephone pole in half. I spent 16 hrs in the hospital and now have a long road of recovery ahead of me.”

“The power steering rack/steering gear malfunctioned on my 2022 Ram 1500 at approximately 25,000 miles. Repair estimate is about $4,000. This appears to be a premature steering-system failure and creates a safety concern because steering assist failure can affect vehicle control.”

“The power steering failed abruptly. The problem is in the electronic power steering rack. The warning light appeared simultaneous with the failure. Fortunately, the failure occurred in a parking lot rather than on the road. The truck is very difficult to steer without power steering.”
