“I was traveling on highway going posted speed of 70mph. There were no cars anywhere close to front of vehicle. Car automatically braked HARD, locking the seatbelt and throwing everything in car forward. It was not a "warning" brake it was a ridiculously HARD brake to attempt to stop car. I am shocked and amazed it did not cause accident or flip. As a result of this sudden hard stop, I have having back and neck pain as well as chest and shoulder pain. There was no reason for this to occur, there was nothing in front of the vehicle at all. There were however cars behind that nearly hit me. I may seek medical if back, neck and shoulder continue to hurt.”
The records describe a possible crash, fire, injury, or loss of control.
“This is regarding an incident with my 2019 Honda CRV, on 2/12/2025. Conditions were dry, clean and dark with street lighting at approximately 6:15 pm Pacific time. I was driving northward uphill on a paved street and approximately half way up the hill, my car came to an abrupt stop and shut down. My body was jolted forward and I felt an immediate discomfort in my lower back. There was a car behind me with lights on that did not hit me, but had veered left mid-street, possibly to avoid hitting my car, or may have been in the process of making a parking maneuver. I saw nothing in the roadway that would cause my car to stop. There was no occurrence of a warning light or audible notification of a hazard to me. There were two cars stopped at a stop sign ahead at the top of the street, one was in the right turn lane and the one next to it was headed straight south. My car would not proceed. I had to press the start button to restart the car. I drove up to the top of the hill to the limit line of the stop sign. Both of the cars ahead at the top of the hill across the intersection were still stopped, but proceeded once my car came up the hill to the limit line of the stop sign.”
The records describe a possible crash, fire, injury, or loss of control.
“The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while attempting to come to a stop at a traffic sign, the vehicle did not brake as she depressed the brake pedal. The contact stated that she thought that she rolled into the intersection at approximately 10 MPH and crashed into a vehicle that was crossing the intersection. The contact's front end crashed into the other vehicle's wheel well and the passenger door. The contact's front end was crushed and her air bag was deployed. The contact stated that the police arrived and the Emergency Services unit responded. The contact stated she was treated for lacerations on both arms starting at her wrists and stopping at her elbows and she had bruising on her abdomen. The contact was not transported to the hospital. The contact stated that both vehicles were undriveable and towed away from the accident. The contact stated that prior to the accident she had taken the vehicle to a dealer due to a "brake system problem" message on her instrument cluster. The contact stated that the dealer had examined the vehicle and that when she drove the vehicle off of the lot the "brake system problem" message was no longer showing on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the brake warning reoccurred. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer and was advised by the dealer that there was no failure of the brake system. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she had the crash and was not able to return the vehicle to the dealer due to the crash. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.”

“The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH in between two intersections with no nearby vehicles or objects, the vehicle started beeping and the brake warning indicator was flashing on the instrument panel. The vehicle then erroneously suddenly activated the brakes and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The contact stated that his wife who was seated in the passenger’s seat sustained bruised from the seat belt to her shoulder. There was no medical attention provided. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact was also informed that sometimes the metal plates on the road may give a false indicator of a vehicle causing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. “I PURCHASED A HONDA CRV FROM HAGERSTOWN HONDA ON 3/16/2019. I LOVE MY CRV. HOWEVER, I'VE BEEN HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. THE HONDA COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM IS CAUSING MY CAR TO JUST STOP WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR OR MORE, DOWN TO ZERO WITHOUT WARNING. THE CMBS THINKS THERE IS SOMETHING I'M GOING TO HIT, HOWEVER THERE ARE NO CARS OR OBJECTS IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT 5 TIMES NOW. I HAVE HAD MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF HAGERSTOWN HONDA CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE MEET WITH BOB BARNES (SERVICE MANAGER) AND TALKED SEVERAL TIMES ON THE TELEPHONE ABOUT THE ISSUE, THE TECHNICIAN (NICK SHIFLER) READJUSTED THE RADAR, AND A HONDA SENSING INTERVIEW SHEET THAT WAS SENT INTO HONDA USA. IT HAPPENED AGAIN JUST LAST WEEK, WHERE I CAUSED A THREE-CAR ACCIDENT ON EAST BOUND ROUTE 66. I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT AS FAR AS I KNOW RIGHT NOW, HOWEVER THE OTHER DRIVERS HAD SIGNIFICANT CAR DAMAGE. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. THE VA STATE TROOPER AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE, AND I AGREE. I CONTACTED BOB BARNES SERVICE MANAGER FROM HAGERSTOWN HONDA AGAIN LAST WEEK, AND HE SAID HE CAN'T HELP ME BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND TO CONTACT HONDA USA. MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE CMBS SYSTEM IS GOING TO ENGAGE, WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY DRIVING.”
