“On January 28, 2023, my Chevrolet Silverado was involved in a significant multi-impact collision. At the time of the accident, I was a front-seat passenger and my vehicle was fully stopped when it was struck from behind at high speed by a Dodge 2500. The force of the rear impact pushed my truck into the vehicle in front of us, resulting in a secondary front-end collision. This sequence occurred twice. During the collision, the front passenger-side airbag did not deploy, and the front passenger seatbelt failed to lock. As a result, I was thrown violently within the passenger side of the vehicle and struck my head on the dashboard. In contrast, the driver’s seatbelt locked properly, as did the rear seatbelt where my child was seated. Due to the failure of the passenger-side seatbelt to lock, I sustained a severe concussion, a black eye, and other injuries. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by my insurance company. When sheriff’s deputies and state police arrived at the scene, they expressed concern and surprise that the passenger seatbelt did not lock and that no airbags deployed despite the severity of the collision. Shortly after the accident, I contacted GMC regarding these safety concerns. GMC retrieved the vehicle’s Crash Data Recorder (CDR) and conducted an investigation. I was later informed that GMC found no defects or issues with their products. Nearly three years have passed since the accident, and I remain deeply concerned and dissatisfied with GMC’s conclusion. The passenger-side seatbelt did not function as designed, while the driver and rear seatbelts did, and no airbags deployed. I do not believe adequate accountability or explanation was provided regarding the apparent failure of the passenger-side restraint system. Given the force of the impact, I could have been ejected through the windshield.”
The records describe a possible crash, fire, injury, or loss of control.
“The seatbelts and airbags did not engage when vehicle was involved in serious accident. Seatbelts we’re on but did not lock up and airbags never deployed. Vehicle is in a body shop in Mexico. Serious spinal and hip injury made worse due to these components mail functioning. Vehicle is still in Mexico while insurance company drags their feet so they don’t have to pay. Vehicle has only been towed and not examined while it just sits there waiting for insurance company to do something. There was a police report made and I’m unaware if insurance folks have looked at vehicle as They won’t talk to us. There were no warning systems prior to incident. Why would a person even think their seatbelts and airbags weren’t going to work??”
The records describe a possible crash, fire, injury, or loss of control.
“I was t-boned by a f-150, airbags didn’t deploy and my seat belt didn’t lock. With no safety features deploying, I sustained injuries. No one wants to inspect it, due to there being no fatalities or permanent dismemberment. There were no warnings or lights on prior to the accident, the seatbelts still latch and are able to be buckled which they shouldn’t be.”

“WHILE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT HAND LANE OF A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY WE NOTICED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US WAS NOT MOVING. WE WERE GOING APPROXIMATELY 58 MPH. WE COULD NOT MOVE TO THE RIGHT LANE DUE TO VEHICLES ENTERING THAT LANE FROM AN ON RAMP. WE WERE ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY WHEN WE REALIZED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US WAS NOT MOVING. WE IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP. WE HAD A VERY SEVERE COLLISION. WE SLAMMED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. THAT VEHICLE WENT LEFT INTO THE GUARDRAIL AND WE FINALLY STOPPED ON THE REAR BUMPER OF THE VEHICLE THAT HAD INITIALLY STOPPED WITH HALF OF THEIR VEHICLE STILL IN THE LEFT HAND LANE. TALKING LATER WITH MY SPOUSE WE BOTH REALIZED NEITHER OF US FELT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE. THERE WAS NO SOUND THAT IS USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH BRAKING HARD. I TOOK PICTURES AT THE SCENE. I FOUND IT ODD THAT THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS. IT WAS A CLEAR DAY AND SHORTLY AFTER 11 AM. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. MY HUSBAND REQUIRED TREATMENT AT THE LOCAL ER. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALLED.”

“TRUCK WAS RECALLED DUE TO BRAKING ISSUE, TOOK IN AND HAD RECALL PERFORMED. AFTER RECALL BRAKES FAILED, TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP. RETURNED FOR PICKUP AND BRADE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LEFT IT AGAIN FOR REPAIR. PICKED IT UP AFTER THIS AND WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF GETTING THE TRUCK BACK FROM THE DEALER THE BRAKES FAILED AND WE WERE INVOLVED IN A CRASH. WE WERE UNABLE TO STOP AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ALONG A ROADWAY AND WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED IN FRONT OF OUR VEHICLE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND FAILED CAUSING US TO CRASH.”

“In September 2004, I filed a complaint on my 2019 chevrolet Silverado was making a noise from under the steering wheel (like a click noise at least twice) also the brakes were changing the movement when I pressed the brakes. One night the brakes completely went out while driving at 55 mph. I tried everything from pumping hard but the pedal went all the way to the floor with no result. I related the gas until the vehicle came to a stop. From there I placed the vehicle on park in the middle of an intersection. When the traffic light turned green I placed the vehicle on D and it moved but still with no brakes. I parked on the side of the road and called a wrecker to tow my truck home. It was could not be driven. After filling a complaint the local dealership called me and fixed it free of charge. Last week the noise on the steering wheel came back and the brakes are acting funny again. I have my two daughters ages [XXX] and [XXX] in my truck and I am requesting another inspection to my vehicle before another accident can happen. “I had a complete loss of steering and had to have the truck towed to the dealership. This could have caused a very serious accident. There was no previous warning - it just went out. The dealership charged me $2183 to replace the steering gear. According to the literature, the steering function should last to well past 100K miles (my truck had 66,552 miles on it). In addition, there are multiple reports of steering going out online - perhaps a recall is in order. The literature also states that if diagnostic code C1599 then the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. That is the code that the dealership saw - it sounds like the fix could have been much simpler and cheaper.”

“Without prior warning my power steering went out. This could have been life threatening. I had to have it towed to the dealership (Voss Chevy, Centerville OH). The truck had 66,552 miles on it and the extended warranty that we purchased thru Voss expired on 26 Mar 2026 and although we were under the 75K mileage, they would not honor it (planned obsolescence?) So they replaced the steering gear for $2183. After researching, the literature says that diagnostic code C1599 (which is what Voss saw) indicated that the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. In addition, literature says that a steering rack should last at least to 100K miles. There are also multiple issues documented on carcomplaints.com regarding the loss of power steering. Perhaps a recall is needed. In addition, I believe we were mislead as to what repairs were needed.”

“Loss of motive power due to engine failure
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 1,157 reports of engine bearing failure failures in the L87 6.2L engine produced by General Motors (GM). Of the 1,157 reports received, 173 are outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. These engines are installed in Model Years (MY) 2019–2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, and 2021-2024MY Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV vehicles. The subject engine failures were investigated as part of a Preliminary Evaluation (PE25001). GM determined that these engine failures were due to multiple supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the supplier manufacturing and quality issues produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. Based on the issuance of recall 25V-274, NHTSA has closed PE25001. ODI continues to receive a significant number of reports of engine failure in vehicles outside the scope of 25V-274. This presents a potential safety risk that warrants further investigation. ODI is opening this Engineering Analysis (EA) to further evaluate the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related issues of vehicles built outside the recall scope. “Loss of motive power due to engine failure
On January 16, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25001 after receiving complaints and field reports concerning engine failures in MY2019-2024 GM’s full-size truck and SUV T1XX platform equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. These complainants alleged engine bearing failures resulting in knocking and growling noises from the engine’s bottom end and in some cases more severe consequences such as broken connecting rods leading to engine damage, or engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 24, 2025, GM issued recall 25V-274 to address the concern with L87 engines produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024. GM cited the root cause as a supplier manufacturing and quality issues. GM’s recall remedy will be either an oil change to an oil with a different viscosity or engine replacement depending on the results of the remedy inspection procedure. To date, ODI has received 1,157 allegations of engine bearing failure. GM submitted 55,464 reports in total, with 29,752 unique VINs. ODI continues to receive allegations of L87 engine failures which fall outside of the scope of recall 25V-274. Based on GM’s recall, ODI will close this PE. NHTSA will continue to investigate complaints of engine failure outside the scope of recall 25V-274 as part ofEngineering Analysis (EA25007).
