The records describe a problem worth checking before purchase.

“False Automatic Emergency Braking NHTSA received a defect petition (DP19-001) from the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) on March 21, 2019 alleging that the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system on Model Year (MY) 2017-2018 Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport vehicles was engaging in cases where there was no obstruction in the path of the vehicle. The CAS petition additionally alleges that, based on Nissan's actions, the manufacturer is aware of the issue due to issuing a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) launching two "Quality Actions," and initiating a "Customer Service Initiative" in relation to it. CAS contends that Nissan's actions do not represent an adequate long-term solution to the problem, as the action is only available during the basic coverage period of the warranty. CAS also argues that the alleged failures are an unreasonable risk to safety and views Nissan's communications as not acknowledging the potential safety issue involved, instead treating the alleged problem as a performance update. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 129 unique subject vehicle reports (for all submission dates) alleging a false positive triggering of AEB. Of these complaints, three were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system, and all three indicating related injuries. In response to ODI's April 15, 2019 Information Request letter, Nissan provided data indicating that it has received 750 unique subject vehicle complaints relating to false positive activation of the AEB system. Of these complaints, 12 were identified that contained allegations of a collision resulting from the activation of the system. Four complaints contained allegations of injuries, three of which were the result of a collision. These complaints included duplicates of complaints that ODI received. The injury allegations were limited to soft tissue type injuries such as whiplash and bruising.Based on its review of the information identified to date, ODI has granted the petition and is opening this preliminary evaluation in order to evaluate the cause, scope and frequency of AEB false positive activations, as well as to evaluate the suitability of the manufacturer's campaign to address the concern or improve performance of the AEB system. The complaints cited can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following ODI identification numbers: 11230875, 11230481, 11230361, 11229400, 11229302, 11229294, 11228994, 11223074, 11222925, 11222644, 11220499, 11218713, 11218608, 11217157, 11210334, 11210256, 11210148, 11209127, 11209032, 11207333, 11205931, 11205717, 11205661, 11205172, 11205124, 11205027, 11204803, 11204349, 11204324, 11196805, 11196561, 11196466, 11196091, 11195938, 11195574, 11194380, 11193989, 11192761, 11192283, 11192063, 11190855, 11190840, 11189976, 11187374, 11186903, 11185890, 11185883, 11185132, 11183406, 11180813, 11174713, 11173666, 11173302, 11172299, 11171331, 11170989, 11165434, 11164646, 11162898, 11162502, 11162396, 11161413, 11161230, 11155985, 11155209, 11155181, 11154181, 11153607, 11153334, 11151373, 11151028, 11142595, 11142557, 11142386, 11141775, 11141433, 11141387, 11141347, 11140604, 11139711, 11139226, 11133402, 11132376, 11130998, 11130662, 11129949, 11128704, 11124099, 11123564, 11123353, 11123321, 11122783, 11119475, 11119300, 11118604, 11115088, 11113479, 11113371, 11112371, 11111659, 11111057, 11110919, 11110689, 11104075, 11103844, 11103437, 11102715, 11102333, 11100117, 11099313, 11091006, 11089960, 11089798, 11089533, 11088815, 11088718, 11081072, 11079453, 11073644, 11072718, 11065505, 11061598, 11057739, 11056061, 11055766, 11048349, 11035301, 11033225, and 10972343.”

“On October 14 2022 I was driving my vehicle at about 35mph and came suddenly upon a stop sign. I hit the brakes and skidded through the intersection and collided with a pick up truck going about 15 mph. My rogue immediately caught fire from under the hood and the doors wouldn't open. The person I collided with was the only person amongst a dozen people who was brave enough and cared enough about my life to ram his body repeatedly into the rear passenger window and yanked me out of the car. Within 10 seconds of him doing that the vehicle exploded. I almost lost my life from what would be considered a minor collision due to the unexplained fire and explosion”

“MY NEW NISSAN ROGUE HAS ONLY 356 MILES ON IT . UNIVERSAL NISSAN SOLD IT TO ME AND THE CAR'S COMPUTER SEEMS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING. IT SEEMS TO BE A HARDWARE ISSUE AND NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE AS THEY TRIED UPDATING THE SOFTWARE WITH NO SUCCESS. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE AUTO SAFETY BRAKE. IT DOES NOT WORK FOR FRONT PEDESTRIANS OR REAR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY. THE VEHICLE ALSO DOES NOT APPLY THE BRAKES IN TIMES OF EMERGENCIES AS IT IS ADVERTISED TO DO SO. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN KILLED IN THE CAR BECAUSE THE COMPUTER IS MALFUNCTIONING AND SPEEDING UP INSTEAD OF APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CAR IS A DEATHTRAP. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, THEY SAID I HAVE TO TALK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I ALSO RECEIVED A MILD CONCUSSION WHEN THE LIFT-GATE SMASHED DOWN ON MY HEAD AFTER I WAS CHECKING OUT THE TRUNK. THE LIFT-GATE WAS OPENING ON ITS OWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN I STOPPED TO CLOSE IT, IT CAME DOWN AND SMASHED ME IN THE HEAD BEFORE I EVEN ACTIVATED IT. ALSO, THE CAR IS BURNING GAS QUITE RAPIDLY. I AM GETTING LESS THAN 16 MILES TO THE GALLON, AND THIS IS MOSTLY FREEWAY DRIVING, EVEN THOUGH IT IS ADVERTISED AT 26 CITY, 31 HWY. . UNIVERSAL NISSAN TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO PUT HIGH LEADED PREMIUM GAS OR I WILL NOT GET GOOD MILEAGE, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IS CORRECT. THERE WAS ALSO A MYSTERIOUS FIRE BURN BENEATH THE CAR WHEN I PURCHASED IT. I BROUGHT THE NISSAN ROGUE IN TO BE CHECKED BY UNIVERSAL NISSAN SERVICE, AND THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR FOUR DAYS. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE CAR'S COMPUTER. THE PRO-PILOT ASSIST STEERING CORRECTION, DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE NISSAN'S CUSTOM LEATHER STEERING WRAP FOR THIS MODEL OF ROGUE INTERFERES WITH THE STEERING CORRECTION, YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY SQUEEZE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE POINT OF EXERTION. “Driver front airbag did not deploy. Driver seat airbag deployed and exploded on the back of driver causing injury. Head to head collision in an intersection. Due to the accident I got major damage in the chest and internal organs. I informed the insurance company that this is a product liability issue. Insurance company declared that the car is totaled. I’m trying to find an attorney to address this issue for me.”

“I WAS DRIVING A RENTAL VEHICLE, 2019 NISSAN ROGUE, 65 MPH AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THEY FAILED, CAUSING ME TO GO ACROSS THE INTERSECTION, THROUGH A FENCE, INTO A DITCH. THE FRONT END WAS TOTALED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE TOOK OVER AND THE CAR PULLED ITSELF OUT OF THE DITCH EVENTUALLY STOPPING IN A FIELD JUST PRIOR TO GOING OVER AND EMBANKMENT AND INTO A RIVER. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE OFFICER THAT ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, THE BRAKES OF THE VEHICLE WERE PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH HE DID NOT ENTER THIS INTO THE WRITTEN REPORT. HE DID VERBALIZE THAT TO ME ON THE PHONE THE DAY FOLLOWING THE ACCIDENT. THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS ON THE ROAD INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE TRIED TO STOP. I WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH. I SUSTAINED 2 FRACTURES OF MY BACK, A CONCUSSION AND A LARGE LACERATION OF MY FOREHEAD. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN STORAGE AND HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED, YET. THE COMPUTER OF THIS VEHICLE TOOK OVER AND DROVE ITSELF. I WAS TAKEN TO A NEARBY TRAUMA CENTER AND ADMITTED FOR 2 DAYS. *DT*JB CONSUMER STATED THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS ON THE ROAD. CONSUMER ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE POLICE OFFICER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY THE FLOOR. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM CERTAIN THAT I HEARD THE VEHICLE PUT ITSELF INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AFTER HITTING THE DITCH.

I ASKED UNIVERSAL NISSAN TO REFUND MY MONEY, BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED .”

“Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility." The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash. Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.”

“Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving. Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury. Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.”
